British scientists announced the development of a four-level registration form to predict the risk of patients dying in hospital due to infection with the Coronavirus, in order to help doctors quickly make a decision about the best care for each patient .

The scientists published the new model in the "BMJ" medical journal, and they confirmed that it helps doctors classify patients in one of four groups at risk of developing corona from low, to medium, high, or very high risk of death .

As hospitals around the world face waves of patients infected with Covid-19, doctors have said they need faster and more accurate tools to predict risk, identify patients most at risk of dying, and help them quickly .

The new model, called " 4C" , uses data such as age, gender, basic conditions, breathing and blood oxygen levels. The researchers said that the results of the study showed that it was able to predict risks more accurately than 15 similar models, and that it was more useful in making clinical decisions. .

"This will prove important in helping guide clinicians to provide optimal care for the most severe patients," said Ewen Harrison, professor of surgery and data science at the University of Edinburgh, who co-led and briefed the research .

Using various data inputs, the Risk Calculator gives scores ranging from 0 to 21, Harrison describes, and patients with a score of 15 or more are at a 62% risk of death compared to 1% for those who score 3 or less .

The researchers emphasized that patients with a low 4C mortality may not require hospitalization, while patients in medium and high risk groups could be rushed to obtain more aggressive treatment, including steroid drugs and admission to critical care units if needed
