Baghdad / Al-Akhbariya

MP Muhammad Sahib Al-Darraji raised doubts about the Iraqi currency auction, indicating that there is a difference of 11 billion Iraqi dinars.

Al-Darraji said in a tweet on "Twitter" that, "On Wednesday, August 18, Customs proudly announced that its imports of two billion dinars, meaning one million and 600 thousand dollars, on the same day the Central Bank sold $ 3 million on a basis converted to import!"

He added, "If we take 5% as the minimum amount for turmeric, the least thing is needed is 1102 million dollars, which means roughly 12 billion dinars! I mean, there is a difference of 11 billion dinars, and where did you go !! Who are you laughing at?"

He ended his tweet with the hashtag: "Currency Auction".

I'm always glad when they talk about currency auction corruption, but this complaint is apples and oranges. This guy is assuming the correlation is tariff revenue to auction import value, not considering the tariff is a fraction of the goods value; taxes get paid, goods get sold etc. As long as they keep shining a needed light upon those auctions, which is the largest source of corruption in the country, I'm happy. I expect those auctions will be ending soon.

Baghdad / Obelisk: A member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee revealed, on Saturday August 22, 2020, that 11 billion Iraqi dinars had disappeared between the Central Bank and Customs.

A member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Representative Muhammad Al-Darraji, confirmed in a tweet posted on his personal account on Twitter that the Customs Authority announced August 19, 2020, its imports are estimated at 2 billion Iraqi dinars, equivalent to one million and six hundred thousand dollars.

He added that the sales of the Central Bank of Iraq are estimated at $ 266 million on the basis that it has been transferred for import.

Al-Darraji said that if we assume that we took 5% as a minimum amount for turmeric, we find the apparent amount of 11.3 million US dollars, we find the difference up to 11 billion dinars, and here we ask where the difference went.

And the General Authority of Customs announced the total revenues achieved, Wednesday, in its customs centers, which amounted to 2,328.388,000 two billion three hundred twenty-eight million three hundred and eighty-eight thousand Iraqi dinars despite the zero customs duties on many goods and the lack of imports due to the closure of most border centers due to the Corona pandemic .

The authority said in a statement received by the "obelisk" that in light of the difficult economic and health conditions that pass through our dear country, its cadres working in all directorates and customs centers continue to actively contribute to standing up to help their people and their homeland, united all challenges and obstacles to work to improve their work and achieve the highest revenues.

She added that she contributed to facilitating the entry of thousands of dispatches of medicines, medical supplies and foodstuffs around the clock, day and night, with efforts and direct follow-up by the higher management of the authority in order to facilitate the smooth entry of missionaries into the country for basic and food items, especially human medicines, to deliver them to the consumer in light of the current crisis.

And the Minister of the Kurdistan Region for Negotiation Affairs with Baghdad, Khaled Shawani, announced on Sunday August 16, 2020, that an agreement had been reached between Baghdad and Erbil to unify customs and ports in accordance with federal controls and the budget and would continue until the 2021 budget is approved.

Shwani said in a statement, that after a series of visits by the delegation of the Kurdistan region, headed by Qubad Talabani, with the aim of obtaining financial dues for the Kurdistan region and the salaries of employees, and after a number of meetings, and changing the proposals and notes for 12 times, the agreement was announced between the two parties.

He added that the negotiations witnessed a lot of ebb and flow, and the process was difficult and complicated, and our efforts were seeking to secure the financial rights of the region’s employees and protect the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan region.
