WOW!  al Kadhimi is smiling in the picture above.

I've never seen him smile when he's in Iraq.

What is going on?  This could be good!  He's looking happy and so is Trump.

Maybe Trump is going to get even richer?

I think he may have Dinar.

Today .. Al-Kazemi meets with Trump and the reconstruction of Iraq tops the talks

Thursday 20 August 2020 228

Today .. Al-Kazemi meets with Trump and the reconstruction of Iraq tops the talks

Baghdad / Al-Sabah / Muhannad Abdul-Wahhab

Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi will meet with US President Donald Trump this evening, while he will later hold a new round of strategic dialogue between Washington and Baghdad, and it is expected that the issue of completing the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq will top the agenda of the visit of Al-Kazemi and his accompanying delegation.
According to the delegation, this morning, Thursday, will witness a series of meetings that will focus on the economic side, including a meeting with a number of major companies and economic institutions regarding the reconstruction of Iraq, and according to officials in the delegation: Contracts will be signed with major companies on gas, oil and electricity, in the presence of the ministers of oil and electricity And finance.
Al-Kazemi will also hold a session with American economic institutions, and start the second round of the strategic dialogue between Iraq and the United States, the first of which took place via video call on June 12, and Al-Kazemi will hold a meeting with a number of American research centers.
A statement of the Prime Minister’s Media Office, received by Al-Sabah, stated that “Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi will discuss in Washington the strengthening of relations and joint cooperation in several areas, in addition to discussing regional developments.”
The Iraqi delegation received a reception that was described as "exceptional", as many streets in the American capital were closed, and American officials told members of the Iraqi delegation: "US President Donald Trump requested a reception from the upper echelon at the security level."
Regarding the intended results of the prime minister's visit to the American capital, which was preceded by an official visit to the Iranian capital, Tehran, Independent Representative Nada Shaker Jawdat expressed her hope that Al-Kazemi's visit to Washington and his meeting with the American President would yield positive steps, including activating investment to support the economy in the country and preserve The unity and sovereignty of Iraq against any interference or aggression on its Iraqi borders, and to keep it away from the circle of political conflicts that take its land as an arena for it.
In an interview with Al-Sabah, Jawdat said: The most important thing that should be discussed in the talks is preserving the unity and sovereignty of Iraq and focusing on the economic file, because it is one of the priorities, in addition to the exit of US and foreign forces from Iraq and the recovery of Iraqi money smuggled abroad, indicating that The visit represents a good opportunity that must be invested in building Iraq and joint work with the international community, which is possible if support is provided to the Iraqi industrial and agricultural sectors and with the help of world countries, the general situation in Iraq will change.
Jawdat stressed the need for the results of the visit to be positive and in the interest of Iraq in all industrial, agricultural and security sectors, because the country's security stability will generate positive results for the work of all other sectors and thus will reflect positively on the labor market and contribute to limiting the spread of unemployment, indicating that Iraq now needs stability. In all respects, because it suffered a lot, so Iraq must rise, and this will not be achieved if everyone does not unite in order to achieve this ambition.
Multiple reports indicated that Iraq and Al-Kazemi enjoyed everything that was required to bridge the gap between Washington and Tehran, as Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi had lines of communication with the various conflicting capitals in the region, which was what Washington could benefit from during the visit, but Al-Kazemi confirmed, prior to his travel To the United States, that Iraq will not play the role of mediator between Tehran and Washington, and he continued: “And I will not be
Postman".
During a meeting with the US Institute of Peace a few days before Al-Kazemi’s visit, the Commander of the US Army’s Central Command, Kenneth MacKenzie, affirmed that his country's military presence “in Iraq will change in coordination with the Iraqi government,” suggesting that “Al-Kazemi is moving in the right direction and the United States should support it

The American Congress of Kazemi: This ongoing relationship contributes to building a secure and prosperous Iraq

https://almasalah.com/ar/news/196455/الكونغرس-الأمريكي-للكاظمي-العلاقة-المستمرة-تساهم-في-بناء-عراق-آمن-ومزدهر147083.jpg.e9fff7f09a48cf6273ddefed2923f883.jpg

Baghdad / Al-Masala: The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee said, Thursday, August 20, 2020, that the ongoing strategic dialogue between the United States and Iraq will pave the way for an ongoing relationship between the two countries, as well as the creation of a safe and prosperous Iraq in which all Iraqis will enjoy.

Obelisk publishes the text of the statement

We write to your Excellency to welcome you and express our support for the continuation of the strong partnership between our two countries.

We share with you the desire to see a secure, sovereign Iraq free from unwanted foreign interference.

We realize that our two countries have a common history, and we believe that the ongoing strategic dialogue between the United States and Iraq will pave the way for an ongoing relationship between the two countries, as well as the creation of a secure and prosperous Iraq in which all Iraqis will enjoy.

We highly value your commitment to security cooperation between the United States and Iraq, and we realize that this cooperation will only be based on the request and approval of the Iraqi government.

As our mutual security cooperation has dispersed the existence of the caliphate of the Islamic State, increased the professionalism and capabilities of the security forces, and laid the foundations for Iraqi forces to lead military operations with multi-level US military support. More importantly, this cooperation continues to consolidate the primacy of the Iraqi security forces as the true guarantor of Iraqi sovereignty over any other independent armed group.

We were astonished by your commitment to the necessary reforms that will be difficult to achieve politically and the concrete steps that you have taken to implement those reforms.

We also encourage any efforts that can be initiated in order to root out corruption and reform the system of patronage that has hindered economic growth in Iraq and pushed many Iraqi youths to the streets to demonstrate during the past year. We also respect your commitment to protect the rights of people in peaceful demonstrations and to listen to their demands.

We are confident that the US-Iraqi economic cooperation will enable Iraq to benefit not only from its natural resources, but also from its human resources, by pursuing more reforms that encourage Iraqis to establish projects in the private sector in addition to foreign investment as well as strengthening diplomatic ties. And economic with the neighboring Arab countries.

Finally, we are encouraged by your announcement on July 31 that early elections will be held in Iraq next June. As always, the United States stands ready to support the democratic process in Iraq. As members of the Senate, we believe that there are few strong examples of Iraq's sovereignty, including the holding of free and fair elections that clearly demonstrate that Iraqi leaders will be subject to the rule of law and the will of the Iraqi people.

We realize that the way forward is not easy. From the efforts of national and local reconciliation to the last remnants of ISIS to the drop in oil prices as well as the spread of the Corona pandemic, we have become clearly aware and fully sympathetic to the challenges that your government faces and that ordinary citizens of every sect and race face. However, we also believe that there is bipartisan support in Congress to deepen the partnership with Iraq in the interest of the security and prosperity of the United States and Iraq while we continue to respect Iraqi sovereignty.

Senator James E. Rush is Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Senator Robert Mendes. Senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday redoubled his promise to withdraw the few U.S. troops still in Iraq, but said Washington would remain ready to help if neighboring Iran took any hostile action.

Speaking during his first meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, Trump said he looked forward to the day when U.S. troops could exit the country, but said U.S. businesses were already making “very big oil deals” there.

“We’ll be leaving shortly,” Trump told reporters. “We have very few soldiers in Iraq ... but we’re there to help. And the prime minister knows that,” Trump said. “If Iran should do anything, we will be there to help the Iraqi people.”

The president declined to lay out a timetable for a full withdrawal.

Trump’s first meeting with the Iraqi leader comes amid a new spike in tensions between Washington and Tehran after Washington said it would seek to reinstate all previously suspended U.S. sanctions on Iran at the United Nations.

Al-Kadhimi, who has challenged the power of Iran-aligned armed groups in Iraq, took office in April, becoming the third Iraqi head of state after months of deadly protests in a country exhausted by decades of war, corruption and economic challenges.

Washington is pressing for an extension of a U.N.-imposed arms embargo against Iran that is due to expire in October under Tehran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, which the United States quit in 2018.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters the United States was working with Iraqi officials to get the number of U.S. troops in Iraq “down to the lowest level as quickly as we can.” The United States has had around 5,000 troops stationed in the country, and coalition allies another 2,500.

Al-Kadhimi told reporters that Iraq was in discussions with Turkey over what he called its “unacceptable” involvement in northern Iraq. Iraq’s constitution explicitly banned use of its territory to attack any neighboring country, he said.

The United States and Iraq in June affirmed their commitment to the reduction of U.S. troops in Iraq in coming months, with no plans by Washington to maintain permanent bases or a permanent military presence in Iraq.

Since 2014, the primary mission of U.S. troops deployed in Iraq has been defeating the Islamic State militant group. Officials in the U.S.-led coalition say Iraqi forces are now mostly able to handle the insurgents on their own.

Iraq’s parliament had voted earlier this year for the departure of foreign troops from Iraq, and U.S. and other coalition troops have been leaving as part of a drawdown.

Even as U.S. forces exit Iraq, U.S. energy companies are expanding their investments in the oil-rich nation, which has been hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and low oil prices.

Five U.S. firms, including Chevron Corp, signed agreements on Wednesday with the Iraqi government aimed at boosting Iraq’s energy independence from Iran.

Kadhimi's visit to Washington comes at 'sensitive' time: White House

https://www.thebaghdadpost.com/en/Story/49340/Kadhimi-s-visit-to-Washington-comes-at-sensitive-time-White-House

wh

The White House stated that the visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi to Washington "comes at a sensitive time and regional threats."

Coinciding with Al-Kadhimi's visit, he said: "Our goal is to stop Iran's disgraceful behavior in Iraq, and we will help the Iraqi government to achieve this, and we understand the religious and cultural ties between Iran and Iraq." He also stressed that "the talks will deal with Turkey's role in Iraq as well."

The White House added, "We want Iraq to be a stable and prosperous country, and we also want to prevent ISIS from returning." He pointed out that "the files of minorities will be dealt with and their protection after the defeat of the organization," and it is important to support the Kurdistan region by the Iraqi government.

Good news from Washington regarding the financial dispute between Baghdad and Kurdistan

Al-Kazemi

Shafaq News / The director of the Strategic Information and Research Center in Kurdistan revealed positive results that the visit concluded, especially in the economic aspect and the financial crisis between Baghdad and Erbil.

Aras Khoshnaw told Shafaq News, in a phone call from Washington, "There is good news after the Iraqi delegation's visit to Washington ends," regarding the financial crisis between the region and Baghdad.

Khoshnaw accused the media and communication sites of confusing the reality of the negotiations between Baghdad and Erbil, stressing the Kurdistan Region’s keenness to obtain constitutional rights and reach fair and just solutions to the crises.

On Wednesday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced financial aid to Baghdad, and called on the Iraqi government to launch the budget for the Kurdistan Region.

Last April, a document issued by the federal government revealed that the salaries of Kurdistan Region employees were stopped, due to "Erbil's failure to deliver imports of oil sales to it." However, the regional government denied this information, and began rounds of dialogue with the government in Baghdad.

The rounds of dialogue concluded with the signing of an agreement this month regulating the financial relationship between the two parties.

Baghdad pays 453 billion Iraqi dinars (about 380 million dollars) monthly in salaries to the region's employees, but these amounts decreased after the collapse of oil prices due to the Corona pandemic.
