Direct: The head of the Agriculture, Water and Parliamentary Marshes Committee, Salam al-Shammari, said that there are malignant agendas internally and externally to prevent Iraq from being self-sufficient in animal and agricultural products.

Al-Shammari added, according to a statement by the House of Representatives, that the last period witnessed a series of fires that affected vast lands of wheat and barley by active action and clear agendas, this time returning to fish farms.

He continued: "Unidentified people threw toxic substances that caused the death of hundreds of tons of fish in the third general downstream river near Diwaniyah Governorate."

The Chairman of the Agriculture Committee renewed his request to the concerned authorities to reinforce its procedures for protecting the local animal and agricultural product in light of the lack of desire, both internally and externally, for Iraq to reach self-sufficiency and export its surplus.

Al-Shammari stressed that the protection of the local product does not depend only on legislation and laws. Rather, it also provides the appropriate means to protect it from the absurdity of thieves and corrupt people whose only concern is to fill their pockets from the forbidden arenas without looking at the interest of the country and its people, according to the statement.
