Hong Kong police are handed power to raid people's homes without a warrant and take arrested protesters' DNA samples under China's security law

  • The new law allows police to control suspects' movement and seize their assets
  • Officers may also conduct secret surveillance and intercept communications
  • Authorities have collected DNA swabs from 10 protesters arrested under the law
  • Hong Kong's pro-Beijing leader vowed to 'vigorously implement' the legislation

Hong Kong police have been granted permission to carry out warrant-less home searches under China's new national security law after the city's government unveiled vastly expanded powers authorised by Beijing.

Officers now also have the right to ban suspects from leaving the city, confiscate their assets, conduct secret surveillance and intercept communications, according to a clause of the law that went into effect today.

Protesters who were arrested under the legislation last week for allegedly carrying pro-independence flags and banners had to have their DNA samples taken, in a move that sparked debate on the necessity of the police's practice.

Don't go to China: Australians are issued a chilling warning they could be LOCKED UP in hellhole detention centre just for stepping foot in the communist nation

  • DFAT said Australians are at risk of 'arbitrary detention' if they travel to China
  • Warning said China had detained foreigners for 'endangering national security'
  • Australians have been urged not to travel overseas at all due to coronavirus
  • The menacing message comes amid growing tensions between the two nations
  • Last week China said it is 'not afraid' of Australia's plans to bolster its military

Australians have been warned they could face 'arbitrary detention' in China if they travel to the communist nation.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade released a travel advice update on Tuesday featuring a chilling message for travellers planning to head to mainland China.

Australians have already been told not to travel overseas during the coronaviruspandemic.

But the update went further and stated the Chinese government has detained foreigners who it accused of 'endangering national security'.

'China will not allow most foreigners to enter China due to COVID-19,' the DFAT update reads. 'Direct flights between China and Australia have significantly reduced.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said Australians are at risk of 'arbitrary detention' if they travel to China. Pictured: a man carries a Chinese flag during Hong Kong pro-democracy protests in Harbour City shopping mall in Hong Kong in December 2019

'If despite our advice you travel to China, you'll be subject to 14 days mandatory quarantine. Quarantine requirements may change at short notice.

'If you're already in China, and wish to return to Australia, we recommend you do so as soon as possible by commercial means.

'Authorities have detained foreigners because they're "endangering national security". Australians may also be at risk of arbitrary detention.'

A 2019 Amnesty International report said China had 'legalised arbitrary and secret detention', allowing for prolonged periods of no contact with detainees, and an increased risk of torture and other ill-treatment and forced 'confessions'.

You are correct 8th ID.  The fact that any US Politician would support Socialism or Communism is unthinkable.  The fact that so many people think it would be fine for our Country is frightening.  Listen to what politicians say and listen to their silence when it comes to the destruction, looting and burning of our cities.  The Leader of BLM NY is a Marxist and has said so.

They are already here in the form of Democratic run states.

The only thing keeping them from totally running amok is the Senate and POTUS.

I guess there is a Marxist in our conversation .  What part do you not understand, maybe I can enlighten your confusion.  Or is your Confused emoji just a swipe at a disliked topic.   Maybe you could enlighten us on why you think Socialism is good for America.

When I see the “confused” “ emoji” “vote”, I take that to mean the voter (s) is/(are) saying about themself(ves), “I/(We) are REALLY STUPID AND wish I/(we) were as smart as You.”

On par with the Red Ruby Citations for “Display Of Intellectual Speed And Power”.

THEY are just jealous of the intellect THEY wish THEY could have but chose NOT to have.

While, yes, of course, Marxism is THEIR preferred governance

:twothumbs: Well Said, Pitcher, AND ALL The Very Best!!! :tiphat:

Hard to imagine ANYONE with ANY "snap" looking at World History since the mid 1800's could say Socialism, Marxism, Communism, Fascism, OR Nazism is a DESIRED way of governance.

Since the 1930's THESE forms have been active on The United States Of America Soil AND have wreaked havoc on the educational institutions, media, film, and a wide variety of other The United States Of America Staples. One would THINK the "progressive" would come to THEIR senses but NO - NO "sense" "allowed".

AND so, Stupid Is As Stupid Does.

Not many people know that in 1917 Germany gave Stalin and Lenin 10 million dollars to fund their Revolution.  Germany wanted Russia out of the picture during WWI and it worked.

I’m sure Russia, Iran, China, and other countries are funding efforts to keep Trump from winning another election.  How else can you explain the positions of many of the Dems.  Open Borders, Gun Grab, Socliasm, Defunding the Police.  People need to wake up, these are things that make it easier to topple a Government.

Joe Biden has already stated if elected he will fundamentally change the structure of America.  One of his 6 remaining choices for VP is Susan Rice.  You know she will probably be his choice as she is Obama’s chosen person.  If she is his pick and something happens to Joe before the election, does she become the Nominee by default.   Think about that.

A Presidential candidate who has never been vetted would have a chance to be President.  A convenient Pandemic to ensure mail in ballots and the chances of her a  becoming President is very real.  A person very few people have a clue on what she stands for much less where she came from.  Susan Rice has never been elected to a public office.  This is a very real possibility and very scary for the USA imo.

I agree Yota.  They have to have someone to blame for their inability to perform in a Country with the most opportunity of any Country EVER in History.  Dems are doing what they do best, tell people they are victims and only they can fix the problem. The Dems have to win the Black vote or they don’t have a chance to win.  They are playing the Ultimate Blame Game/Race Card.  They really have no choice, Trump is polling 20-35% of the Black Vote.

FBI boss Christopher Wray accuses China of 'having a preference' in 2020 election and stealing American information in 'one of the largest transfers of wealth in history'

  • Wray labeled China a top offender in speech to the Hudson Institute Tuesday
  • 'China's malign foreign influence campaign targets our policies,' Wray said
  • Did not say which candidate Beijing favored
  • He is one of several top administration officials to go after Beijing
  • Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced new sanctions on Chinese officials over Tebet
  • President Donald Trump once again blasted the 'China virus' on Tuesday
  • U.S. Intelligence concluded Russia preferred Trump in 2016
  • Trump on July 4 called for China to be held 'fully accountable' for the virus

By AFP and GEOFF EARLE, DEPUTY U.S. POLITICAL EDITOR FOR DAILYMAIL.COM

PUBLISHED: 12:31 EDT, 7 July 2020 | UPDATED: 19:07 EDT, 7 July 2020

The head of the FBI said Tuesday that China is pushing its preferences in the U.S. election as part of broad intelligence operations, whose economic impact he called unprecedented.

Christopher Wray, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, did not say whether China backed either President Donald Trump or his presumptive Democratic rival Joe Biden, both of whom have harshly criticized Beijing.

'China's malign foreign influence campaign targets our policies, our positions, 24/7, 365 days a year,' Wray said at the Hudson Institute.

'So it's not an election-specific threat; it's really more of an all-year, all-the-time threat. But certainly that has implications for elections and they certainly have preferences that go along with that.'

U.S. intelligence concluded that Russia intervened in the 2016 election, in part by manipulating social media, in an effort to elect Trump.

Wrays comments come as the Trump Administration ratchets up political and public pressure on on China in an election year.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who has been in a war of words with Beijing, announced new U.S. sanctions on Chinese officials Tuesday over Tibet.

Wray's boss, President Donald Trump, called out China in a July 4 speech at the White House filled with scathing comments.

'China's secrecy, deceptions and cover-up allowed it to spread all over the world [in] 189 countries and China must be held fully accountable,' Trump said.

Trump has has repeatedly criticized the 2016 finding and his administration has shown irritation over intelligence briefings that Russia is similarly interfering this year.

Wray was answering questions after a speech focused mostly on China's alleged economic espionage, cases of which he said have soared by 1,300 percent over the past decade.

'It's the people of the United States who are the victims of Chinese theft on a scale so massive that it represents one of the largest transfers of wealth in human history,' Wray said.

'If you're an American adult, it is more likely than not that China has stolen your personal data,' he said, pointing to the massive 2017 data breach at credit reporting agency Equifax.

FBI Blows Lid Off China’s Sinister Plan To Attack America On All Levels

China is conducting a massive theft campaign in the U.S. in its quest to become the world’s top superpower, FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a policy speech on Tuesday.

“China is engaged in a highly sophisticated, malign foreign influence campaign. Its methods include bribery, blackmail and covert deals,” Wray said during his speech at the Hudson Institute. “China is engaged in a whole of state effort to become the world’s only superpower through any means necessary.”

Wray said the scale of China’s efforts has amassed to one of the greatest threats to America.

“The greatest long-term threat to our nation’s information and intellectual property, and to our economic vitality, is the counter intelligence and economic espionage threat from China,” Wray said. “It’s a threat to our economic security, and by extension, our national security.”

China employs “a diverse range of sophisticated techniques” including cyber theft, physical theft, and corrupting insiders, Wray said.

“China doesn’t hesitate to use smoke, mirrors, and misdirection to influence Americans,” he explained.

Through cyber hacking and intrusions, China obtained the sensitive personal data of 150 million Americans in 2017, the personal data of 80 million Anthem health insurance customers in 2015, 21 million records from the federal Office of Personnel Management in 2014, and more.

“It’s the people of the United States who are the victims of what amounts of Chinese theft on a scale so massive, that it represents one of the largest transfers of wealth in human history,” Wray said. “If you’re an American adult, it is more likely than not that China has stolen your personal data.”

China also targets U.S. researchers through China’s Thousand Talent Program, in which it entices the researchers to hand over trade secrets to China for significant amounts of money. One researcher alone, Hongjin Tan, handed over $1 billion worth of trade secrets from his former employer, a U.S. petroleum company, to China.

“Over the past decade, we’ve seen economic espionage cases with a link to China increase by approximately 1,300 percent,” Wray noted.

More recently, China has also harnessed social media in identifying U.S. citizens working in positions with access to sensitive government data, then targeting those people, either through cyber intrusions, or with monetary offers in exchange for information.

“If China’s more direct, overt influence campaign doesn’t do the trick, they sometimes turn to indirect, covert, deceptive influence efforts,” Wray said.

Wray said the FBI opens a new China-related intelligence case every 10 hours, and almost half of the agency’s 5,000 active counterintelligence cases are related to China.

“China, as led by the Chinese Communist Party, is going to continue to try to misappropriate our ideas, influence our policymakers, manipulate our public opinion, and steal our data. They will use an all-tools and all-sectors approach—and that demands our own all-tools and all-sectors approach in response,” Wray added.
