Parliamentary finance reveals the value of Iraqi debt and reviews a plan for economic reform

The decision of the Parliamentary Finance Committee Ahmed Al-Saffar saw, on Sunday, that economic reform passes through two aspects, one of which is controlling public expenditures while maintaining the necessary spending, noting the government's ability to maximize resources in less than a year, while revealing the value of Iraqi debt.

Al-Saffar said in an interview with Alsumaria News, "The Finance Committee has a paper for reform, which is matched by a paper prepared by the government. And being one of the rich countries with his wealth, as the external debt is estimated at 25 billion and 444 million dollars, while the domestic debt is up to 40 trillion dinars.

He pointed out that "the government has a plan to maximize resources, properly access resources, mobilize them and transfer them to the public treasury, offset that unnecessary expenditures are very large, therefore there are two aspects. First, controlling public expenditures, maintaining necessary expenditures on the one hand, and maximizing resources on the other hand."

He added, "The matter needs a serious will from the government and we estimate that the government is able within a year or less to change a lot of things in a way that maximizes imports and reduces expenditures and a large part of the reform plan. As for getting out of chaos, developing economic sectors, advancing the Iraqi economy, and getting out of a situation Corruption and the absence of sound financial and monetary policies, they need to restructure oil policies, financial policies and the budget that reflect the government's approach and sound economic plans. "

The decision of the Parliamentary Committee went on to say that "the approval that obtained external borrowing came to an urgent necessity and a need for financial liquidity because of the current circumstances, and we are seeking not to continue with it."

The information / Baghdad ..

The Parliamentary Economic and Investment Committee criticized, on Monday, the lack of an economic vision of the government towards providing the necessary resources and revenues that supply the budget with money, pointing out that Iraq is defective to import fuel from abroad at a time when it sells oil at a very low price, unlike the fuel it buys.

Member of the Parliamentary Committee Nada Shaker said in a statement to "The Information", that "the government's actions and its lack of control over economic resources have raised the wrath of the Iraqi people, especially those related to border outlets and other productive sectors, and not taking action with the region to force it to hand over its money to the center."

She added that "the government pays millions of dollars to buy gasoline fuel, while selling oil at a very low price and this matter is very defective and indicates the lack of economic and strategic planning."

Shaker stressed "the necessity of relying on a deliberate economic policy and attracting expertise and competencies to amend the path of the economic plans pursued by the government and keeping it away from the policy and internal and external interventions." Ended / 25 n

Parliamentary Crisis: There is no solution but to impose a comprehensive ban on the government bearing its economic repercussions

Foreign workers in Iraq - Internet

Foreign workers in Iraq .. No homecoming or salaries

  •  ۲۹ June ۲۰۲۰

Agencies

Everyone is subject to the life imposed by the " #Krona " virus , as is the case in #Iraq , where a French Press Agency report stated that thousands of foreign workers were stranded in Iraq without any income or way to return to the homeland.

The report stated: “For years, Rajab Al-Sheikh, a Bangladeshi pastry worker, has been transferring money to his country, but now he is suffering after he stayed for three months without pay and the Iraqi business owner stopped paying his food pension as well.”

The agency quoted the worker, who had been working in Basra for seven years, as saying, "We used to return the money to our country, but now I had to ask my cousin to transfer the money."

He added, "We hope that we can return to our jobs because not only are we starving, but our families are back home as well."

The report added, “Rajab is one of the thousands of foreign migrant workers stranded in Iraq without any income or way to return home, and they are watching the economy around them collapse.”

The report added that «the global economy witnessed a great slowdown amid the spread of the Corona virus, but Iraq, the second largest oil producer in OPEC, was severely affected by the collapse of oil prices and facing production cuts, that has pushed the country to decline to its worst financial crises in years, where "The World Bank estimates that GDP will shrink by 10 percent this year."

Noting that "unofficial workers are at great risk of falling into" extreme poverty "amid the closures that have been imposed to stop the spread of the emerging" Corona "virus.

The report pointed out that "thousands of migrant workers, most of them from South Asia, have flocked to Iraq during the past decade to work in a group of companies, from # oil fields to restaurants, including 250,000 registered Bangladeshi workers."

According to a survey conducted by the International Labor Organization, "95 percent of companies in Iraq stopped work due to the Corona pandemic, and that 4 out of 10 employers had to lay off some workers, and many expected the crisis to continue for another four months."

The workers segment in Iraq is one of the poorest and most marginalized groups since 2003 until now. Besides that they do not receive the wages they deserve, they are exposed to layoffs due to foreign employment.

Although Iraq discussed more than once the file of foreign workers and its impact on increasing the unemployment rate in the country, it was unable to reach any decisions, due to the fact that the file overlapped with partisan and political interests.

The Iraqi Ministry of Labor, had announced earlier, that the number of foreign workers working in companies operating in Iraq exceeds 750 thousand workers.

It is reported that yesterday, Tuesday, June 30, the supposed legal period for sending the general budget to 2020 to parliament ended without accomplishing this, so that parliamentary demands come to prepare it for six months or a month only.

Late June salaries

On Monday, the Parliamentary Finance Committee attributed the delay in the disbursement of employee salaries and grants for the month of June to the absence of cash, explaining that this is due to the failure of the amount borrowed from the local nuk to the state treasury recently approved by Parliament.

Member of the Committee, Representative Jamal Cougar, said in a statement to "Information", that "the delay in the process of disbursing salaries and grants for the month of June is due to the lack of cash at the public treasury."

He added that "the main reason for the delay in salaries is the delay in receiving financial loans from local banks that the government allowed the government to borrow on paying salaries", stressing that "the coming days will be the salaries paid to those who are entitled to them."

Cougar pointed out that "the amounts of internal loans will suffice to pay salaries between four and five months and the government must urgently undertake financial reforms to avoid dumping the state treasury with internal or external debts."

Empty budget

Hisham Dawood, adviser to the Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, said at the beginning of the month of Hazeer that the past, that the new government received from the previous government of Adel Abdul Mahdi, an empty treasury and there is only 300 million dollars.

"Adel Abdel Mahdi and his government have left the state treasury in this vacuum, and we are facing a country that needs everything and has a grave global epidemic, and we have many requirements and are fighting a war against terrorism," Dawood said in a recorded tape from a press conference, which was shared with "Yass Iraq".
