@caddieman,

Quote: "...death rate of 0.053"???

Where's your source for this death rate, which by my calculations is 5.3%. I believe that the number is closer to the common flu: 0.1%!

Indy

Simply math 2.27 million cases in the US. 121,000 deaths = a death rate of .053303964

You been watching to much of the radical right fake news! Covid 19 is nothing like the flu.......not even close.

This for you and Shabs caddieman. I'm sure you will consider it fake news!

This will help you to explain to the uninformed why "positive" cases is a useless statistic. A family of four gets tested in June. The 12 year old had a "cold" in March that was actually a mild case of COVID 19. Now, all four in the family have anti bodies and BINGO, they are classified as "new" cases. Mark Twain famously said, "there are three kinds of lies; Lies, Damned lies and statistics."

From an article in "Townhall". Remember, Florida's population is much older than any other state.
But there's also some evidence that in Florida, the mismatch between spiking new cases and stable/manageable hospitalization rates is partially attributable to the fact that more young people are getting tested.  Even as some of them are testing positive, their cases are mild or even asymptomatic, not requiring any hospitalization or serious treatment:
Again, this info lends credence to the explanation given in the Miami Herald that a part of the reason FL’s cases are ticking up is because younger/more asymptomatic people are being tested and contacted by contact tracers, which then leads to more cases. https://t.co/25Dhm544zU

Employers are asking healthy people to test as they return to work. The positives are mild or asymptomatic. https://t.co/N29tTby4mv

Hospitalizations and hospital capacity are far more important indicators than total cases.  Let's keep watching the data closely, but if it continues to be the case that cases are surging due to more testing among young, healthy people, while vulnerable populations are remaining well protected (with the hospital systems not approaching overload), that sounds like what a policy success would look like.

In the past I would equate this as a sad attempt to purposely deceive people. But experience here, and in life, has shown me

that most people only see what they want to see and never even try to see something that may not fit their beliefs.

Thus there is one MAJOR flaw in your assessment of the mortality rate, That being the inconclusive number of how many

people are actually infected with the virus. As only a small portion of the American population has actually been tested for

Covid 19 it is impossible to determine the exact {or even a close proximity} death rate.

With the U.S. Covid-19 rates, including the mortality rates, being spot on with the rates for the entire planet, trying to explain that away as being a lie is a nonstarter....the great think about simple math is it's reliability....math doesn't lie.

Trump’s Tulsa rally: Small setback or sign of trouble?

Mike Bebernes
Editor
,
Yahoo News 360June 23, 2020

What’s happening

After months without any in-person events, President Trump intended to get his reelection campaign back up and running with a raucous rally in Tulsa, Okla., on Saturday. Things didn't go as planned.

Despite claims that more than 1 million tickets had been requested, only about 6,200 people attended. News coverage of the rally showed whole sections of empty seats in the arena. A second stage had been erected outside the venue so the president could address what was expected to be an overflow crowd of thousands. It was taken down without being used.

A number of explanations have been offered for the lackluster attendance. The president’s campaign said protesters had blocked his supporters from entering the arena, though reporters on the ground have refuted that claim. Teenagers on the social media platform TikTok said they made reservations for the event with no plans to show. Warnings from public health officials that the event could pose a serious risk of spreading the coronavirus may also have stunted turnout.

Why there’s debate

The president’s allies and critics largely agree that the rally was a letdown. There’s significant disagreement, however, over what it may mean for Trump’s chances at winning another term in November.

To some observers, the president’s inability to draw a sizable crowd in a state he won by 36 points in 2016 is a sign that enthusiasm among his base supporters has eroded. Typically, one disappointing rally may not be a big deal, but Saturday’s poor showing came at a time when Trump’s campaign was in desperate need of a win, election analysts say. The majority of the public disapproves of how he has handled both the pandemic and Black Lives Matter protests, which has helped Joe Biden build a lead in national and swing state polls. The Tulsa event could have been a chance to reverse that trend, but instead it helped solidify the narrative of a campaign in crisis, some political analysts say.

The content of the president’s speech may have been even more inauspicious than the crowd size, some argue. News coverage after the address focused on Trump’s lengthy explanation of why he had walked awkwardly down a ramp and his claim that he had advised his coronavirus task force to “slow the testing down” to keep the number of positive cases lower. What the speech lacked, some argue, was a clear case of why voters should want him in office for another four years.

Others warn against drawing too many conclusions from a single event — especially during such uncertain times. Elections aren’t determined by the size of rally crowds. Concern over the virus may have kept many Trump supporters from attending the rally, but it may not have the same impact on Election Day. Trump’s reelection chances will hinge on his ability to manage the economic, public health and social crises currently gripping the country, some experts argue. If he’s able to do that effectively, a poorly attended rally months before the election will likely be mostly forgotten.

What’s next

Trump held a series of small campaign events in Arizona focused on border security on Tuesday.  His campaign is planning upcoming rallies in Florida, Texas and North Carolina. Dates for those events have not yet been set.

Perspectives

The small crowd size suggests Trump’s base of devoted supporters is shrinking

“To explain how he might be able to win despite poor polling numbers — and amid national crises — he has posited that a ‘silent majority’ of Americans backs him. But the poor turnout suggests just the opposite — that enthusiasm for him is weaker than it appears.” — Jonathan Allen, NBC News

Crowd size is irrelevant

“Realistically, not a single vote will be flipped in or against Trump’s favor because some reporters managed to snap a picture of an only moderately-filled arena with a snarky caption.” — Tiana Lowe, Washington Examiner

Trump’s campaign has very little room for error

“Once viewed inside the White House and Trump’s campaign as a reset button for a presidency beset by crises and self-inflicted wounds, Saturday evening’s campaign rally in Tulsa instead became plagued with pitfalls, a disappointing microcosm of the blindspots, denial and wishful thinking that have come to guide the president as he enters one of the most precarious moments of his first term.” — Kevin Liptak and Kaitlan Collins, CNN

Trump still has ample time to shift the course of the race

“President Trump can meet this moment and win over the voters he needs in 2020 with a new message of change for people who’ve been left behind — equal opportunity for Americans of every race. Make America great again for all.” — Steve Hilton, Fox News

Trump’s speech lacked a clear reelection message

“The Trumpian vision, as outlined in Tulsa, is distinctively devoid of ideas.” — Ruth Marcus, Washington Post

The election will be decided by the state of the nation in November, not a rally in June

“Much could also change. The coronavirus crisis could be overcome. The economy could come roaring back. The enormous effort the Trump campaign is putting into attacking Biden could pay off.” — Niall Stanage, The Hill

There’s a lot of time before Election Day, but the rally was still a significant setback

“It’s not a good sign for a president who needed a shot in the arm as he faces slumping poll numbers. There are still four and a half months to go until Election Day, and a lot will change, but it’s hard to imagine that this is what his campaign was hoping for.” — Domenico Montanaro, NPR

Trump’s speech included some effective lines of attack on Biden

“His lines going after Biden were very effective, particularly on Biden being a tool of the radical left. But I’d like to see that focused message take up more space in the overall speech, because it will resonate with wobbly suburbanites.” — Republican political strategist Scott Jennings to Politico

TikTok users didn’t affect crowd size, but the prank is still a bad sign for Trump

“What’s important about the TikTok hanky-panky is how much fun the kids had doing it. They reveled in the chance to mess with the Trump campaign. This is fantastic news for Joe Biden and Democrats. One of the iron laws of politics is: Whoever is having fun is winning.” — David Plotz, Business Insider

There are many explanations for the small crowd

“It is tempting to find a larger message about Trump’s waning popularity with the GOP base in the meager turnout in Tulsa. … But it is hard to know whether the seats were empty because of virus fears, teenagers mischievously signing up on TikTok, or just the sensible calculation that there are better things to do on a Saturday night in Tulsa, even in the midst of a pandemic.” — Walter Shapiro, New Republic

Brad Parscale, Other Trump Staff in Quasi-Quarantine After Tulsa COVID Cases

Donald Trump’s reelection campaign manager, Brad Parscale, is one of a group of campaign staffers in quasi-quarantine after he attended a rally in Oklahoma last weekend where eight campaign aides tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh announced on a conference call Thursday that, “as a precaution,” staff who made the trip to Tulsa were “working remotely” and would be tested for COVID before returning to work. Asked by The Daily Beast in a follow up email if the self-imposed work isolation applied to the campaign manager, Murtaugh said, “Everybody who was in Tulsa, yes.”

Parscale returned to his home in Florida after the rally in Tulsa, and Murtaugh told The Daily Beast that he flew commercial.

Sources close to the campaign described the quarantine measure as a precaution, and said the campaign plans to step up its coronavirus testing regime going forward in order to avoid similar incidents. One source said dozens of staffers had attended the Tulsa rally.

After publication, Murtaugh emailed to say that everyone "who flew home from Tulsa tested negative before leaving." The reason they were working from home still, he added, was as a "precaution."

Even ‘Fox & Friends’ Isn’t Buying Kayleigh McEnany’s Spin on Tulsa Rally Crowd

Multiple U.S. Secret Service agents were also ordered into quarantine after accompanying the president to the rally, CNN reported this week.

Despite fears about the possibility that the event would lead to the spreading of the virus, many luminaries in the Trump orbit descended on Tulsa for the rally. The president’s son Eric gave an opening speech, as did Vice President Mike Pence. A number of Republican National Committee officials and White House staffers attended the Tulsa rally as well, including Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany, who said she would be there sans face mask. McEnany did not return a request for comment, though staffers who are in close proximity to the president are tested for the virus daily.

Man, I am REALLy worried about the size of that crowd and what it says about Trump. I know most Americans can't wait to vote for "ole say it ain't so Joe", because they can't wait for the anarchy to come to a town near them.I know I look at San Fran, Seattle, Chicago and Minne and all the shiite and drug needles in the street and think, " WOW what a Utopia".

Tulsa Can’t Opt Out of Trump’s Massive Coronavirus Gamble

But Nancy Pelosi can . She just has her Personal Assistant call up a Salon, struggling to stay in business. Makes an appointment, to which she does not wear a mask. When caught, she does not claim her responsibility in her CV violation (no mask), she blames the Salon owner . The business woman never forced Nancy (there are one set of rules for me and another set for everyone else.) to come to her place of business. So what does fancy Nancy do. She unleashes the entire force that her Brown Shirt Nazi Gestapo Narcissistic Socialist Party has, onto this innocent business woman, victimizing her over and over again. Folks sending death threats, protesters in her area that will burn down her shop and residence. Another perfect example that the Dems have a two tiered justice system, one for them, one for everyone else. Another example of why not to have Nancy's party candidate for POTUS not elected.

The total utter hypocrisy of the left. That part.  It doesn't matter whether she is wrong or not, the fact is her nephew is keeping ordinary people from working by issuing rules the left seems to think they don't  need to follow.

Mostly because he says masks should be optional, and Nancy says they should be mandatory. Mandatory with criminal penalties for those who do not wear masks. Trump is trying to open businesses while Nancy and crew say only essential businesses should be open. And businesses like salons have no right to be considered essential. Shoot,  here in California LA Fitness went bankrupt and was bought out by Esportia Fitness while complying with the state and feds on this covid thing. On top of all that as a nurse it is a fact, all masks, any masks, that are not N95 don't do squat in preventing the spread of viruses . The shot gun effect from a sneeze still goes 4-5 feet instead of 6-8 feet. Nancy is a hypocrite and a elitist who thinks there shld be 1 set of laws for her, and another set for everyone else.

Most folks have never put on N95 mask, I have. That mask works, I had it on for 30 minutes visiting my Dad, you can hyperventilate, it makes your nose and mouth sweat. After wards I had stuffy nose for 3 days. The Doctors and Nurse at the Hospital deserve kudos, I experience what these Great people do everyday for hours at a time everyday, They have my respect and are True Hero's.

I've got to say this, politically I disagree with Everything You believe. Yet I truly love you and honestly call you my Brother. You are always the first to defend me. Everyone here probably thinks we really are related.

But I still disagree with you politically.

This is how I see Trump, I absolutely love what he is doing politically but I don't agree with his nature. In the end I will probably plug my ears and vote for Trump because the real Democratic Socialist party nominee, 'Bernie Sanders' will be the end of our republic.

Thus I am NOT a Trump supporter. And the true shame is that in America this is the political environment we've come to.
