The Iranian-Iraqi financial mechanism is a step to thwart American pressure + video

Thursday, June 18, 2020sharethis sharing button

Baghdad (The World) 2020.06.18 - Iran and Iraq have signed a new financial plan to counter the US embargo, and under this plan, Iran will use its financial resources in Iraq to purchase goods not covered by the US embargo.

The World - Iraq

A new step made by Iraq and Iran in the field of strengthening economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, whose size is estimated at more than 15 billion dollars annually.

And based on a new financial plan concluded during the visit of the head of the Iranian Central Bank, Abdul Nasser Hamti to Baghdad, Iranian dues on Iraq will be used to purchase goods not covered by the US embargo.

Hamti said in an interview with reporters after meeting his Iraqi counterpart Ali Al-Alaq that Iran has important financial resources in Iraq, and it has been agreed to benefit from them, pointing to the desire of both countries to accelerate the implementation of this agreement.

Hemati told the media that "we have great resources in Iraq, and these resources can be used in accordance with this agreement to supply basic commodities through our friends in Iraq."

This mechanism would ensure the continuity of Iranian energy and gas supplies to Iraq, and would frustrate American pressure targeting the relations between the two countries.

Al-Alaq affirmed this, saying: "The agreement was concluded between all parties, which is a transparent agreement, and the mechanism in which it is followed has been agreed upon at the international level."

The Iraqi electricity sector depends a third of its energy on what it imports of Iranian gas and electricity, while Washington was forced to extend its exemption to this sector from the embargo, in front of the will of these two countries to enhance cooperation between them .. While Iran's dues are estimated in billions of dollars
