Mary B
The IMF approves a $ 396 million loan to Jordan to ease the repercussions of Corona 05/21/2020 l Follow-up - Mawazine News The International Monetary Fund agreed to grant Jordan a loan of $ 396 million to meet urgent financial needs after the country's economy was severely affected by the repercussions of the Corona virus pandemic. In a statement, the Jordanian Ministry of Finance stated that the loan provided by the rapid financing tool program with low interest comes at the appropriate time in light of the restrictions imposed on external borrowing due to Covid-19 disease. Jordanian Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Asas said earlier this month that the budget deficit is expected to rise by at least one billion dinars (1.4 billion dollars) after the government’s public finances were severely damaged by losing revenue during two months of public isolation. He added that growth in 2020 is expected to decrease by 3.4 percent this year, compared to the expectations of the International Monetary Fund to grow by 2.1 percent before the crisis. The IMF approved a 1.3-billion-dollar program for four years for Jordan last March, which the kingdom hopes to provide funding from its major Western donors concerned about the country's stability.
