  • Newsome had told DailyMail.com his organization was 'mobilizing' its base
  • BLM will 'stop these government sanctioned murders by any means necessary'
  • He told Fox he stood by his words and could not condemn or condone riotsĀ
  • Newsome urged reform before they 'burn down this system and replace it'Ā
  • Donald Trump called his comments 'treason, sedition, insurrection'Ā Ā

13:35 EDT, 25 June 2020Ā

Ā

The founder ofĀ Black Lives Matter's New York organization has threatened to 'burn down this system' unless the United States changes its ways - remarks that Donald Trump on Thursday labelled 'treason, sedition, insurrection'.

Ā

Hawk Newsome toldĀ DailyMail.comĀ the Black rights group is 'mobilizing' its base and aims to develop a highly-trained 'military' arm to challenge police brutality head on.

'We want freedom from an oppressive government, and we want the immediate end of government sanctioned murder by the police,' he said.

'And we prepare to stop these government sanctioned murders by any means necessary.

'We are preparing and training our people to defend our communities.'Ā Ā

Newsome was asked about his comments onĀ Fox NewsĀ on Wednesday night.Ā

'If this country doesn't give us what we want, then we will burn down this system and replace it,' he told host Martha MacCallum.Ā Ā

'And I could be speaking figuratively. I could be speaking literally. It's a matter of interpretation.'

Trump on Thursday hit back at Newsome, calling his marks 'treason, sedition, insurrection'.

Ā Racial tension has exploded across the country since the killing of George Floyd by a white police officer in Minneapolis on May 25.Ā

Hundreds of thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of cities from coast to coast, calling for police reforms.

But the protests, largely peaceful, have sometimes turned violent, with looting and arson.

Newsome says his chapter is now raising a 'war chest' and plans to build a headquarters in an unused church in New York. But while big money donations have been flooding in from celebrities and high worth individuals, he insists his group won't accept the 'corporate dollar'. The protesters have also targeted monuments and statues, including those of Confederate soldiers and the Founding Fathers, spray-painting them with graffiti and pulling them to the ground.

Newsome said the movement is about 'saving lives' and it should be praised for supporting the Second Amendment.

He said the protest was getting positive results.Ā

'Let's observe the history of the 1960s, when Black people were rioting,' he told the tv channel.Ā

'We had the highest growth in wealth, in property ownership.Ā

'Think about the last few weeks since we started protesting.Ā

'There have been eight cops fired across the country.

'I don't condone nor do I condemn rioting.Ā

'But I'm just telling you what I observed.'Ā

Newsome insisted the Black Lives Matter movement is about 'saving lives' and its adherents should be 'applauded' for upholding the Second Amendment.

'Nobody's talking about ambushing police officers,' he said.Ā

'We're talking about protecting lives.Ā

'There's nothing more American than that.Ā

'We talk about uplifting and upholding the Second Amendment but it seems to be the hypocrisy of America that when black people start talking about arming themselves and defending themselves, [that] talk is "violent".Ā

'But when white people grab assault rifles and go to our nation's, their state capitals, it's all good.'

MacCallum opened the discussion by referencingĀ DailyMail.com's interview, and asking Newsome: 'You have said that violence is sometimes necessary in these situations. What exactly is it that you hope to achieve through violence?'

Newsome contested the premise of her question.Ā

'Wow, it's interesting that you would pose that question like that,' he said.

'Because this country is built upon violence. What was the American Revolution, what's our diplomacy across the globe?

'We go in and we blow up countries and we replace their leaders with leaders who we like. So for any American to accuse us of being violent is extremely hypocritical.'Ā Ā

The pair then discussed Martin Luther King Jr and his legacy, before Newsome tried to get the host to agree that Jesus was Black.Ā

At the conclusion of the interview, Newsome told MacCallum: 'I just want Black liberation and Black sovereignty, by any means necessary.'

Trump Rage-Quits Fox News After Network Shows Him Trailing Joe Biden In Polls

Ā
Ed Mazza
HuffPostJuly 6, 2020

PresidentĀ Donald TrumpĀ said heā€™s done withĀ Fox NewsĀ after the network on Sunday showed him trailing former Vice PresidentĀ Joe BidenĀ in the polls.Ā

Trump claimed he was leading in ā€œreal pollsā€ but did not cite any:

Trump hasĀ repeatedly claimedĀ that 96 percent of Republicans approve of him. While he does enjoy high levels of support among members of his party, there are no recent polls that show him reaching that level.Ā Last week, a Hill-Harris X pollĀ found he had an 82 percent approval ratingĀ among Republicans, down from 91 percent in May.Ā

In addition to attacking Fox, Trump also urged his supporters to change the channel:

Trump has repeatedly attacked news agencies for reporting on polls unfavorable to him and evenĀ sent a ā€œcease and desistā€ threat to CNNĀ last month for broadcasting a poll that showed him trailing Biden by 14 points.

The Trump campaign alsoĀ reportedly cut ties with some pollstersĀ last month after internal polls were leaked.Ā Those polls showed Trump trailing Biden in several swing states.

Trump has expressed displeasure with Fox News numerous times in recent months. In May, he complained that the network was ā€œdoing nothing to help Republicans, and me, get re-elected.ā€Ā He also said he was ā€œlooking for a new outlet.ā€

Despite his complaints, Fox News has remained friendly territory for Trump, with personalities such asĀ Sean HannityĀ frequently offering lavish praise. Over the weekend, the network evenĀ cropped an image of late sex offender Jeffrey EpsteinĀ with Trump to remove the president.Ā

Twitter users had some thoughts on the feud:Ā
