Traders: Decision to re-import incoming as fire in the local market

8th March, 2020

Iraqi traders warned of the "seriousness of the decision to cancel the ban on importing so-called American incoming cars into Iraq."

The merchants said, "Allowing the entry of so-called incoming cars will lead to dumping the local market with burning, scrap, sunken and dismantled cars and vehicles that have been subjected to serious accidents, and all these negatives are hidden in the local factories in neighboring countries." And merchants pointed out that "vehicles with industrial defects need a lot of money to rehabilitate in addition to that they are not safe to use as well."

Iraq is considered one of the first countries to import damaged cars from the United States of America due to the low prices, as these cars are subject to maintenance in the country of origin or in Jordan or the United Arab Emirates before entering Iraq. Damaged cars, or what is known as the "American Import" term, are vehicles that have been subjected to traffic accidents or drowning due to flooding in the country of origin, and are sold at low prices compared to the same models of sound vehicles.

Baghdad / Ikhbariya:

The Russian agency "Sputnik" quoted an Iraqi medical source, confirming that 10 Iraqi MPs had been infected with the new Corona virus.

The source, who declined to be named to "Sputnik", said that the results of laboratory tests conducted at the Central Health Laboratory in the capital, Baghdad, had caused the infection of 10 members of the Iraqi parliament, with the Corona virus.

In an interview with "Sputnik," a lawmaker, who asked not to be named, suggested that members of Parliament be infected with the Corona virus, especially since among them are close to factions and personalities loyal to Iran.

A prominent human rights source, for his part, alluded to information about the infection of members of Parliament with the Corona virus, but it does not provide any official confirmation or announcement.

Today, Sunday, Iraq recorded 6 new infections with the emerging coronavirus, bringing the number to 60 cases so far.

The Ministry of Health and the Iraqi Environment confirmed in a statement this evening that its central laboratories diagnosed 6 new cases of the new corona virus, one in Muthanna, Anbar, Dhi Qar, Najaf, Baghdad and Maysan.

Abbas Awaid Al-Husseini, a member of the Crisis Cell, in the Rusafa Health Department, expected an increase in the number of Coronavirus infections in the coming weeks.

Al-Husseini stressed that the citizens ’persistence of not dealing seriously with the risk of disease, and their insistence on non-compliance with prevention and social distancing, is the reason for accessing the current progressive casualty figures.

And he considered that Iraq entered three weeks ago with a high and rapid outbreak of the epidemic, meaning that the epidemic has become everywhere and moves between people without knowing the source of the infection, indicating that most of the infected are ignorant of their infection, despite their commitment to personal protection.

Al-Husseini stressed the commitment of the medical and health staff and their adherence to the utmost preventive measures to protect them from infection with the virus, calling for citizens to be required to wear masks and gloves, and social distancing because the source of infection has become unknown.
