Texas-based company has reportedly created a coronavirus vaccine

February 20, 2020

Coronavirus vaccine

A Texas-based genetic engineering company has finished developing a coronavirus vaccine, according to new reports.

Scientists at Greffex Inc. — which has a corporate headquarters in Houston and a laboratory in Aurora, Colorado — completed the vaccine this week, company president and CEO John Price told the Houston Business Journal.

Now the vaccine will move to animal testing by the necessary government agencies — the FDA in the US and similar regulatory bodies in China and other heavily affected countries, according to the report.

For safety reasons, Greffex did not use a living or killed virus to form the vaccine, according to Price. Instead, adenovirus-based vector vaccines, which are widely employed against various infectious diseases or cancers, were used, the report noted.

“The trick in making a vaccine is can you scale the vaccine that you’ve made to be able to make a certain number of doses, can you test that vaccine quickly and efficiently and then can you get it into patients,” Price told local outlet KHOU 11. “And that’s where we have an edge as well on the other companies that are out there.”

The vaccine is the product of an $18.9 million contract Greffex received in September 2019 from the National Institute of Health’s National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, aimed at fighting infectious threats, the Business Journal reported.

If the vaccine wins government approval, Greffex will give it away for free to the hardest-hit countries, Price said.

More than 2,100 people have died as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, with all but 11 of those deaths in mainland China. Worldwide, more than 75,700 people have been infected.

I also mentioned this when I started this thread and I stated that, since no one is following up on it, maybe it turned out not to be true.  I saw it on Fox News on Saturday, so if there was something to it, I would have expected that Fox would have run with the story.  Also, I've heard that some of the smaller companies are taking advantage of the coronavirus by claiming they have a vaccine so they get some media attention - even though it's fleeting.

Although Corona virus (Chinese), Americans have discovered a vaccine for treatment before everyone else and will soon distribute it for free.

Baghdad - Iraq today:

A US company with genetic engineering, headquartered in Texas, has announced its success in producing a new vaccine for the new Coronavirus.

"The company completed the vaccine this week, and the next step is to test it on animals, in preparation for obtaining a permit from the US government, and to use it widely," said CEO of Griffix Price in a statement carried by American media.

Price revealed that "the common way to produce a vaccine is to use a live or dead copy of the actual virus, and work to provide the body with immunity against it, as happens in the influenza vaccine, for example, but the scientists who produced the new vaccine in Griffex, used another technique is the vaccines for virus gland carriers, This means that the vaccine is genetically engineered. ”

Fox Business pointed out that "gland virus viruses are widely used against infectious diseases and cancers."

Price said, "Grifex will distribute the vaccine free of charge to countries with HIV infections, as soon as the US government agrees to use the vaccine."

He explained that "scientists specialized in his company's laboratories developed the vaccine based on a contract worth $ 18.9 million, concluded with the National Institute of Health and Infectious Diseases of the National Institute of Health in September 2019, in an attempt to combat infectious diseases."

The latest statistics on the number of people affected by the Coronavirus around the world reached "78,959 people infected with the virus, of whom 2,465 people died, and 23,094 people recovered."

After recording the first injury .. A US report asks: Is Iraq ready to confront Corona?

Baghdad - Iraq today:

A report by an American website, Monday, shed light on the medical procedures and capabilities available to the Iraqi authorities in the face of the spread of the new "Corona" virus, especially after confirming the health of Najaf, the first recorded infection in Iraq.

The report published today, February 24, 2020, stated that "Iran has become a major concern for countries in the Middle East, including Iraq, after its transformation into one of the coronary hotspots, where it recorded a large mortality rate for other countries and reached 12 deaths with dozens of injuries." .

The report added that "Iraq, which has borders with Iran and extends about 1485 km, issued a decision to prevent arrivals from Iran from entering its territory through all border crossings, and suspended flights with Tehran, as the Iraqi committee to combat the Corona virus demanded citizens not to travel to Iran."

He explained that "the question that posed itself on social media, especially after monitoring a case of corona virus in Najaf, is Iraq ready on the health front to confront this virus?"

The report quoted the former director of the Iraqi Mosul and Vaccine Institute, Muhammad Ismail, as saying that "the border crossings with Iran until now are not completely controlled," hinting at border violations that occur without accountability or supervision.

He continued that "advanced devices to detect the injured are present only in airports, but the border outlets are not equipped with what is necessary to monitor the infected cases."

As for the extent of the Iraqi health system's readiness to receive any cases infected with the virus, if any, Ismail stressed, "Despite the political situation in the country, the health system is in good condition and can contain any cases of the disease."

And that "the Iraqi people are aware of the causes of the spread of the disease, and have already started to abandon some social customs that contribute to the spread of the virus, such as peace, kisses and hugs, and this matter will contribute to not spreading the disease significantly if the virus enters Iraq."

He pointed out that "Iraq in general is able to confront the virus and contain any infected cases and prevent the spread of the disease, as happened in Iran."

The Department of Health in Diwaniyah, had launched earlier, a campaign to raise awareness among the demonstrators about the dangers of the Corona virus, and the campaign would include the deployment of mobile teams in the markets and crowded places to explain the instructions for prevention, as the health department of Kirkuk Governorate declared that the province was free of any infections, and indicated that it had been equipped A health quarantine for expatriates in the governorate, and allocating "Al-Nasr" hospital to treat the virus carriers if these cases are found.

With the rapid spread of the disease and the emergence of many cases in neighboring countries, especially in Iran, health supplies in Iraq have witnessed unprecedented turnout in preparation for the prevention of the virus.

While Iraqis criticized the absence of the oversight role of government institutions on the prices of health supplies, especially the masks which they themselves called for use as a precaution against the disease.

I totally agree Dinarrock.  Most of the people I know here enjoy some hopium - at least when it has some probability of being true.

And keylime, I enjoy reading about your dreams and visions.  It's not your responsiblity how people react to them  Your responsiblity is only to be true to yourself.  If you feel called to share something, then I think you should.  And the fact is, life is fluid.  It's a consequence of man having free will.  Man's ability to change his mind or act on impulse means that things can and do change.

Personally, I would love an April 18th RV, and while I won't count on it, it does give me a bit of short term hope which I'm happy to experience.  So thank you for sharing, you are much appreciated!

Thank you  KristiD!

I'm thankful to be able to share on such a great forum with a multitude of wonderful people.  As much as anyone  I want these dreams to come to pass because they can be the single threads that tie the fabric of all our dreams together infusing our hopes with a possible timeline escorted to the throne room of God by our prayers.

Coronavirus: Another Factor Exposing Risks to Iraq's Oil-based Economy

Iraq, OPEC’s second-largest oil producer, has a list of challenges that keeps growing. From the anti-government protests and the ongoing U.S.-Iran standoff, to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats to hit Baghdad with sanctions, a myriad of issues have raised concerns in recent months about supply disruptions from southern Iraq. To make matters worse, Iraq is now watching a crisis, which no one saw coming, unfolding outside its borders that can potentially impact its oil sales.

challenges that keeps growing.

In its January report, the International Energy Agency (IEA) called Iraq a “potentially vulnerable supplier” due to geopolitical risks—blamed on the U.S.-Iran tensions—and anti-government protests. Iraq relies heavily on oil revenues which make up around 90 percent of its budget. The country would suffer severely if crude exports drop sharply, especially amid volatile oil prices, with matters exacerbated by the inability of Iraq’s existing political and economic system to cope with the grave consequences. However, neither regional tensions nor the protests led to the imagined disruptions some had feared, and concerns over risks to oil flows from southern Iraq began to gradually fade around mid-January.

Then the outbreak of the novel coronavirus hit the global markets.

The focus shifted from possible oil supply disruptions in the Persian Gulf to the impact of the epidemic on China’s oil demand. As the world’s largest importer of crude oil, China is a key consumer of Iraqi crude that includes its flagship Basrah Light. According to TankerTrackers.com, the majority of Iraq’s southern crude exports in December went to China (33.40 percent) and India (28.42 percent). Saudi Arabia and Iraq are China’s top suppliers within the Persian Gulf. Most of the crude oil that transited the Strait of Hormuz in 2019 went to Asia, with China being the top importer, taking in 3.7 million barrels a day, data from Bloomberg show.

In early January, questions were raised about the impact of security developments in Iraq on the selling of Basrah crude to Asian refiners, including Chinese. Now, the question is the other way around: If the coronavirus outbreak is not contained soon, how will lower Chinese oil demand, accompanied by weak oil prices, affect a key oil supplier like Iraq that heavily relies on oil sales?

To put it bluntly: Iraq’s budget will suffer as the pillars of revenue falter, and the government will not be able to bury its head in the sand.

“Structural Problems”
“Iraq will have a deficit in its budget which is mostly for paying public salaries,” said Ahmed Tabaqchali, a financial analyst and senior fellow at the Sulaimani-based Institute of Regional and International Studies (IRIS). During a phone interview he noted that Iraq, over the past few years, “has built up its foreign reserves because of higher oil prices, but it needs those reserves [not to pay public salaries] but because the country relies on importing goods and products.” Moreover, the country does not have a fiscal cushion to cope with the impact from a sharp drop in exports as well as oil prices. In January, Iraq’s federal oil revenues, and according to Iraq Oil Report, dropped by around 8 percent compared to December to settle at $6.195 billion due to lower crude exports and a drop in oil prices. And that was before coronavirus threw the global markets into turmoil.

The burgeoning problem of public payroll, since 2003, has been highlighted regularly by Iraqi researchers and analysts who have underlined the consequences that will hit the government hard if they are left unaddressed. Ali al-Mawlawi, the head of research at the Baghdad-based Al-Bayan Center, says in a research paper published last year that “one of the key lessons from the fiscal crisis that emerged in 2014 is that Iraq’s reliance on oil combined with the volatility in oil prices means that the country can no longer afford to grow the public wage bill without expecting severe consequences.” These, according to al-Mawlawi, include its failure to dedicate enough resources for rebuilding an infrastructure that has been badly damaged throughout years of violence, and most importantly, the government’s inability to address vital public services—a critical problem that has been fueling protests.

“There is a political will. But it is a political will to preserve the status quo.”

Tabaqchali explains that Iraq has a “structural problem” in its political system—built on al-Muhasasa (an Arabic term that refers to a quota system wherein each political group wants its own share)—which has been impeding any serious efforts to implement reforms. “The economy is the government and the government/power is diffused,” Tabaqchali said. “There is a political will. But it is a political will to preserve the status quo, not change it,” he added. The problem caused by this entrenched system have led to large-scale protests calling for its overhaul. More than 500 protesters have been reportedly killed since October 2019.

And it is not only the federal government in Baghdad that will bear the brunt of a budget in crisis.

The autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in the north relies on its independent oil sales—which averaged 446,000 barrels per day in December 2019, according to Iraq Oil Report—and on federal public salaries transfers. If Baghdad’s budget is dealt a blow because of the current shocks in the oil market due to the coronavirus, the KRG will feel the repercussions, Tabaqchali explains, directly due to a loss of income from its lower independent oil revenues, and indirectly from a potential drop in federal transfers. For instance, once the KRG’s income starts suffering, payments to International Oil Companies (IOCs) could be delayed, and if the situation worsens, the delays would be extended to public salaries, according to Tabaqchali. This last part in particular is a recipe for social unrest.

The Iraqi Response
“If the coronavirus continues and affects oil consumers, it will certainly backfire on us because most of our oil travels eastward,” a senior Iraqi official told me.

The relevant Iraqi authorities have taken measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus to the country, and there is no major impact, at least for now, on energy projects involving Chinese companies. Iraq’s oil ministry spokesman Asim Jihad told me on February 6 that “the workflow is ongoing and there is no impact on operations at the oilfields—whether those involving Chinese companies or others.”

Caretaker electricity minister Luay al-Khateeb, meanwhile, said that there “are no delays at the moment, and everything is on track,” with respect to projects at his ministry.

“At the moment, the current measures we have is that we want to make sure that the virus does not travel back to Iraq. We advised Chinese workers in Iraq to stay and not travel back to China [for the time being] because if they do, they will have [to go through a long process] to clear themselves before getting back. And all this leads to additional costs, logistics, all which will further delay any projects that we are working on,” al-Khateeb added during an interview on February 13. The various Chinese companies in Iraq include the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) which is involved in building the Salah al-Din power station located in north-central Iraq.

A five-day visit by an Iraqi delegation to China last September, was hailed as “historic”, and signaled growing relations between the two countries. China is considered Iraq’s biggest trading partner and is heavily invested in its energy industry. In an interview with the state-run al-Sabah newspaper in May 2019, Chinese Ambassador to Baghdad Zhang Tao said that “the amount of Chinese investments in Iraq is very large, exceeding $20 billion in the oil sector.”

From the anti-government protests, to the U.S.-Iran confrontation, and now the novel coronavirus, a wide variety of geopolitical factors have all exposed the vulnerability of Iraq’s economy in its current form. So I asked Tabaqchali whether the government can diversify the economy instead of relying on oil sales. “The government cannot do that because the political system cannot support it. One of the major requirements when it comes to the private sector is that for it to develop you need rule of law and the state monopoly of violence,” he grimly said.

“These don’t exist in Iraq.”

I have not read this whole thread but just had to post my thought today. I am absolutely amazed that we are still talking about waiting for this damn RV. Now with this agenda 21 and controlled demolition of the world economy - what the hell is IRAQ waiting for. Soon – and I do mean very soon – it will be too late for what WE want to get out of this! Geesh-so frustrating. I finally got my act together and I have everything set up with the IBC etc. etc. etc. and now this damn engineered bullshit timing of starving people to death so that the New World order can be put in because they’ve got no freaking other way to force it on us. Global supply chain is no more than 1 to 2 months from collapse. The frustrating part also is that all of the world leaders are well aware of their role in this agenda ..... so I guess I’m not surprised that it hasn’t happened yet because the powers that be have not blessed it and have other things in mind. The idea being that people have to be put in great pain through a major crisis and loss of life so that the sheeple – the brainwashed programmed masses will be begging them for any and all help which includes a totalitarian World. This is not BS. This is real. I guess I just was hoping that Iraq was going to get it together for an RV before the entire world is in fear. Thankfully, there are enough people so absolutely asleep in the United States that may be this buys a little time but I’m not feeling optimistic today at all. Can you tell?

Pope Cancels Event Over "Slight Illness" After Shaking Hands With 'Mask-Wearing' Public In St. Peter's Square

The pope catching the coronavirus would certainly make an interesting sequel to Netflix's "Two Popes."

After breaking with his typical practice of waving and instead making a point to shake hands with revelers during his Ash Wednesday audience in St. Peter's Square, media reports claim Pope Francis has fallen ill with a "slight illness".

However, observers noted that he sounded hoarse and already appeared to have a slight cold during the Ash Wednesday service, quieting fears that he might have picked up the virus during the public audience, that was attended by thousands despite the outbreak in Italy sparking fears of public gatherings. The pope reportedly coughed during the service repeatedly......  LINK

Nothing says 'we've got this under control' like confirming that a handful of your government's most-senior officials have caught the virus at the root of a deadly pandemic sweeping the globe.

After confirming on Thursday that its 'official' death toll from the outbreak had reached 22 with 141 cases confirmed (lawmakers have claimed that the death toll as of Monday was up to 50 in Qom alone), Iranian state media reported that the country's vice president for women and family affairs, Masoumeh Ebtekar has tested positive for the virus.

She is the third senior official to be infected, alongside the Deputy Health Minister and Cleric Hadi Khosroshahi, who succumbed to the pneumonia due to his advanced age.

Nightmare Scenario: Iraq Detects Suspected Covid-19 Cases In Overcrowded Refugee Camp   link

War-torn regions of the Middle East remain hugely vulnerable for the spread of Covid-19 due to hundreds of thousands of families packed into often filthy temporary settlements already running low on basic staples for survival.

And now a nightmare scenario is unfolding in Iraq as the United Nations has recorded the first suspected coronavirus cases inside an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp.

Refugee camp in northern Iraq, file image via The Telegraph.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) issued an alert in its latest humanitarian report this week, noting also the World Health Organization (WHO) has dispatched additional supplies and medical devices to Iraq amid broader closures of public spaces after at least 71 confirmed cases nationwide.

But with millions of refugees in the region, especially along the Turkish-Syrian border, and after Erdogan has effectively 'opened the gates' on waves of migrants headed to Europe, the spark that could erupt an explosion of outbreaks in camps across the Middle East may have started.

The alarming new OCHA report reads:

The first suspected cases of COVID-19 were documented in an IDP camp in Ninewa; the affected persons were transported to hospital, and a makeshift isolation unit was put in place. Sterilization activities are under way.

Crucially, this region lies along the Syrian border in Iraq's northwest, and is near Turkey in a broader border area which has over the past years witnessed entire 'refugee cities' erected.

Surrounding countries like Kuwait have taken proactive measures for heightened testing along their borders and points of entry, but other regional governments have lagged behind:

The WHO previously said it's especially concerned of an outbreak among refugee populations in war-torn regions of Iraq and Syria.

"Refugees and internally displaced populations across Iraq and Syria have been identified as the most vulnerable groups in the region, should the spread of the virus become a pandemic," The Guardian reported of recent statements.

"Health officials in both countries remain under-equipped to deal with such a a reality that seems more possible with each passing day," the report added.

And as Turkey continues to allow and even actively facilitate the passage of refugees and migrants into Greece and other EU states, the Covid-19 crisis currently shutting down entire countries in Europe is set to explode further.
