LONDON—President Trump offered to pardon Julian Assange if he agreed to cover up the involvement of Russia in hacking emails from the Democratic National Committee, which were later published by WikiLeaks, a London court was told on Wednesday.

Lawyers acting for Assange have argued that the Australian should not be extradited to the U.S. because the case is political not criminal.

Edward Fitzgerald, Assange’s lawyer, said on Wednesday that a message had been passed on to Assange by former Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher.

Fitzgerald said a statement produced by Assange’s lawyer, Jennifer Robinson, showed “Mr Rohrabacher going to see Mr Assange and saying, on instructions from the president, he was offering a pardon or some other way out, if Mr Assange... said Russia had nothing to do with the DNC leaks.”

District Judge Vanessa Baraitser, who is presiding over the pre-trial hearing in Westminster Magistrates’ Court, said the allegation should be admissible during the extradition hearing, which is due to begin next week.

If he appears in court in the U.S., Assange would face 18 charges including conspiracy to commit computer intrusion. The total jail time for all charges would be 175 years.

Huh, yeah did you see what I did there folks? Click on the "read more" thing for the chuckle. Sorry Shabs I couldn't resist. Just kidding. Or did Shabs really offer a pardon to Julian Assange.  In my bottomline humble opinion, this is just lawyer speak and nothing but lawyer speak. Anyone in a court of law can introduce any claim to sensationalize the trial, start throwing stuff up on the wall to see what sticks, anything to get the courts to provide freedom to the accused, or in this case keep this mans tail in a English jail. In England he may have hope of getting his freedom, in the USA he can see that the DOJ has a case against him that can put him away for the remainder of his life. The sheer ridiculousness of this "claim" is obvious to all. Remember how the Mueller show kept referring to DJT's tongue in cheek comment  ... well maybe soon if HRC doesn't stop her outrageous claims lies (or however he said it), maybe soon wikileaks will release all the Russian hacked HRC emails that they supposedly have. Remember how the fake news kept playing that over and over? Remember this being the key piece of "damming evidence" Schiff, Peliosi, Nadless had proving DJT collusion delusion. ERRRRRRNT. Didn't happen. No proof yada yada. Lawyer speak, unless they produce a verified document of course. Key being verified as I remember how the desperate Dems paid millions for the unverified dossier .

Assange Lawyer: Trump Offered Us a Deal

Um, what?

President Trump offered to pardon Julian Assange if he agreed to cover up the involvement of Russia in hacking emails from the Democratic National Committee, which were later published by WikiLeaks, a London court was told on Wednesday….Edward Fitzgerald, Assange’s lawyer, said on Wednesday that a message had been passed on to Assange by former Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher…[It showed] “Mr Rohrabacher going to see Mr Assange and saying, on instructions from the president, he was offering a pardon or some other way out, if Mr Assange… said Russia had nothing to do with the DNC leaks.”

Since this involves Trump and Dana Rohrabacher, I suppose it’s plausible no matter how crazy it seems. And apparently the judge in Assange’s extradition hearing agrees: she thought it plausible enough to rule it admissible.

Stay tuned, I guess. Though even if Assange somehow produced video evidence of Trump and Rohrabacher conspiring about this in the Oval Office, I have a feeling Republicans would just shrug and say that the president’s pardon power is absolute. So, you know, he did nothing wrong.

Why would POTUS Trump offer Assange if he covered up the Russian Hack.....Russia had nothing to do with it. Everyone that follows the DNC knows it wass seth Rich that leaked the info to Assange then paid the price for it.

DNC never released the servers to be gone through and they did everything possible to make Rich look like a random mugging.

Alex Jones and Fox News face lawsuits for their wild theories

Conspiracy theories about DNC staffer Seth Rich and a Charlottesville demonstrator are haunting right-wing media

CHARLIE MAY
MARCH 14, 2018 3:31PM (UTC)

Fox News and Alex Jones' Infowars are two symptoms of the same disease — and they're facing similar treatment.

The major conservative network and the "alt-right" online media outlet have been slapped with separate lawsuits for their baseless conspiracy-peddling. For Fox News, the suit comes from the family of the slain 27-year-old Democratic National Committee staffer, Seth Rich, after the network endlessly promoted a baseless theory that there was a connection between him and WikiLeaks, according to ABC News.

The Rich family claimed a May 16, 2017 Fox News article contained "false and fabricated facts." The story connected the murder of the staffer to Wikileaks' publication of thousands of emails from the DNC. The suit was filed against Fox News, investigative reporter Malia Zimmerman and commentator Ed Butowsky, alleging they "aided and abetted the intentional infliction of emotional distress."

The parents of Rich released a statement in which they expressed disgust for the story and those who promulgated it.

"No parent should ever have to live through what we have been forced to endure," Joel and Mary Rich said in a statement, according to ABC. "The pain and anguish that comes from seeing your murdered son’s life and legacy treated as a mere political football is beyond comprehension."

Jones is being sued for defamation after he allegedly spread false conspiracy theories about a counterprotestor, Brennan Gilmore, who witnessed the deadly attack at a Charlottesville white nationalist rally last August.

In a Washington Post op-ed, Gilmore explained he "was verbally attacked by Infowars’s Alex Jones and other conspiracy theorists, who wanted to portray me as a 'deep state' operative motivated by a desire to undermine President Trump and his administration. As a result, my family and I have been attacked and threatened."

He continued, "My footage was covered on cable news and ran all over the internet. During interviews, I spoke clearly about the hatred and violence on display that day. After that, websites such as Infowars and the Gateway Pundit started pushing conspiracy theories."

Gilmore pointed to examples of the Infowars reporting: "They had known CIA and State Department officials in Charlottesville, first tweeting, first being on MSNBC, CNN, NBC. The mayor is involved. Everybody is a cut-out. . . One guy is paid $320,000 a year on the payroll of [George] Soros. He doesn’t just get money from Soros, he personally is paid $320,000 a year, and then he is there — CIA, State Department — and he is on the news."

The conservative site Gateway Pundit also ran with the narrative and said that Gilmore "turns out to be a deep state shill with links to George Soros. It looks like the State Department was involved in Charlottesville rioting and is trying to cover it up. But after Deep State got caught they are trying to erase this guy from their records."

Gilmore went on to detail the ongoing harassment he and his family are faced with to this day, including "threats, hate mail and hacking attempts."

He explained, "Someone mailed an envelope containing a suspicious white powder residue and a four-page diatribe describing how I would burn in hell."

The lawsuits against both Fox News and Jones convey a similar message: how news is covered matters.

Both have expressed overt support for the Trump administration and Trump's radical agenda. Both have also deeply fed into the Trump narrative that the mainstream media is an enemy that spreads "fake news." The lawsuits highlight that the true broadcasters of "fake news" have been those who have screamed it in the opposite direction the loudest.

"We can't comment on this pending litigation," a Fox News spokesperson told Salon.

Rohrabacher confirms he offered Trump pardon to Assange for proof Russia didn’t hack DNC email

WASHINGTON — Former California Republican congressman Dana Rohrabacher confirmed in a new interview that during a three-hour meeting at the Ecuadorian Embassy in August 2017, he told Julian Assange he would get President Trump to give him a pardon if he turned over information proving the Russians had not been the source of internal Democratic National Committee emails published by WikiLeaks.

In a phone interview with Yahoo News, Rohrabacher said his goal during the meeting was to find proof for a widely debunked conspiracy theory: that WikiLeaks’ real source for the DNC emails was not Russian intelligence agents, as U.S. officials have since concluded, but former DNC staffer Seth Rich, who was murdered on the streets of Washington in July 2016 in what police believe was a botched robbery.

A lawyer for Assange in London on Wednesday cited the pardon offer from Rohrabacher during a court hearing on the U.S. government’s request to extradite the WikiLeaks founder.

White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham immediately denounced the claim about a pardon discussion with Assange as a “complete fabrication,” adding that the president “barely knows Dana Rohrabacher” and has “never spoken to him on this subject or almost any subject.”

Rohrabacher said that not only did talk of a Trump pardon take place during his meeting, but he also followed up by calling then White House Chief of Staff John Kelly to discuss the proposal. He did not, however, ever speak to Trump about it, he said.

“I spoke to Julian Assange and told him if he would provide evidence about who gave WikiLeaks the emails I would petition the president to give him a pardon,” Rohrabacher said. “He knew I could get to the president.”

When he spoke to Kelly, the then chief of staff was “courteous” but made no commitment that he would even raise the matter directly with the president. “He knew this had to be handled with care,” Rohrabacher said, and that it could be spun by the news media in ways that would be “harmful” to the president. In fact, Rohrabacher said he never heard anything further from Kelly about the matter nor did he ever discuss the subject directly with President Trump.

Rohrabacher, who was defeated when he ran for reelection in 2018 and is now a consultant to the cannabis industry, long had a reputation as one of the few members of Congress willing to defend Russian president Vladimir Putin.

He also was a strong defender of President Trump on all matters related to the Russia investigation. He says the president personally called him to thank him for one of his TV appearances during which he said that Trump was right to be angry with then Attorney General Jeff Sessions for recusing himself about all matters relating to the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.

Rohrabacher also emphasized in the interview that he only wanted “truthful” information from Assange and never suggested that he “lie.” But he said he believed then — and even more so now — that the information he was seeking would prove that WikiLeaks got its DNC emails from Seth Rich, a claim that if true would undercut the findings of U.S. intelligence agencies and Mueller’s prosecutors that Russian agents had hacked the Democratic party and stolen the emails.

“Seth Rich’s name came up a couple of times” during his meeting with Assange, Rohrabacher said, although he acknowledged that the WikiLeaks founder never confirmed to him that Rich was his source. Still, Rohrabacher added, he believed the media is covering up the late DNC staffer’s supposed role in the theft of the party emails. “The whole thing stinks,” he said.

A Yahoo News podcast, Conspiracyland, revealed last summer that Russian intelligence agencies first planted the conspiracy theory that Rich was murdered by gunmen hired by Hillarious Clinton. It also reported that Russian trolls later repeatedly boosted claims on Twitter and other social media platforms that the former staffer had leaked the material to WikiLeaks.

In fact, a top Washington police commander overseeing the investigation into Rich’s death said during the Conspiracyland podcast that law enforcement had found no evidence that Rich’s death was in any way related to his work at the DNC or that he played any role in the leaking of party emails.
