Baghdad today - Baghdad

Member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Ali Al-Ghanmi, Monday (January 27, 2020), ruled out the US resort to the military response after targeting its embassy in Iraq, while US President Donald Trump was likely to impose sanctions on Iraq.

Al-Ghanimi said in an interview with (Baghdad Today), that "Trump will have a position towards targeting the US embassy in Baghdad, and he will come out with a conference and wave sanctions and defend the interests of the United Nations, and it may indicate the use of force in the event of impatience and is also expected to urge his partners to deal with Iraq." As required by the interests of the United States and directing its allies to take positions on Iraq. "

With regard to the possibility of a military response from America to target its embassy, he stressed that "America is not incapable of a military response, but understands that its interests and presence in Iraq are threatened, and the military response is excluded," noting that "America has passed the stage of threat and its threat of sanctions and the threat that threatens the region was an example ".

On Sunday, the Security Media Cell announced that 5 Katyusha rockets had landed in the Green Zone without causing any losses.

Then, the caretaker head, Adel Abdul Mahdi, yesterday ordered the security forces to search and investigate to prevent a recurrence of the attack on the US embassy in Baghdad.

Today, the Foreign Ministry condemned the bombing of the American embassy in Baghdad, while affirming that relations with Washington were not affected by "these acts."

And the ministry, in a statement, expressed its "categorical rejection", and its condemnation of "the aggression that targeted the US embassy by bombing Katyusha missiles."

She expressed "her disapproval of this violent act condemned legally and customarily," stressing that she is "most keen on preserving the sanctity of all diplomatic missions operating in Iraq, in compliance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention to regulate diplomatic relations between countries of the world, and in the interest of bilateral relations, and in the care of mutual interests of all." .

And she saw that "such actions will not affect the level of strategic relations between Baghdad and Washington that are witnessing an improvement in the way of achieving the aspirations of the two friendly peoples," adding that "the relevant security authorities have initiated their investigation procedures to detect the perpetrators and bring them to justice to prevent the recurrence of such Violations: which could lead Iraq to be a battleground for external parties. Baghdad today - Baghdad

Former adviser to the International Alliance, Kazem Al-Waeli, on Monday (January 27, 2020), suggested that Washington assassinated figures believed to be involved in targeting its embassy in Baghdad.

Al-Waeli said, during his hosting of the "Point of View" program presented by Dr. Nabil Jassem on the channel "Tigris" and followed him (Baghdad today), that "the Americans are sure of the geographical party that launched the missiles," noting that "the United States has intelligence officers at the American embassy and will wait The results of the investigations and then the response will come. "

He warned that "strikes previously did not take place inside the embassy, and the situation now differed with the last strike," noting that "there are rockets that landed in the embassy, and that the next two days will clarify everything."

The Security Media Cell announced yesterday, Sunday, that 5 Katyusha rockets landed in the Green Zone without causing any losses. After that, the caretaker head, Adel Abdul Mahdi, ordered the security forces to search and investigate to prevent the recurrence of the attack on the American embassy in Baghdad.

Al-Waeli said, "What Hoshyar Zebari said and accuses the PMF is an escalating situation."

The leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, accused the PMF, of being involved in the bombing of the American embassy, in the Green Zone, in the center of the capital, Baghdad.

Al-Waeli added, "The United States will respond with quick strikes against those involved in the bombing of the embassy," suggesting that "assassinations of those involved (in targeting the embassy) and those behind them, or perhaps imposing economic sanctions on the heads involved".

The former adviser to the International Alliance talked about "leaders that made Iraq a war zone and pushed it to be an environment that repels investment", explaining that "there are leaders who have done childish actions that made Iraq a country without diplomatic influence globally."

He went on to say: "America cannot use areas with influence from leaders of factions to strike the embassy. It is illogical to say that it was Washington that bombed its embassy."

He ruled out that "America punishes Iraq economically and militarily because it is too weak to be subjected to sanctions," he said.

And he added, "The armed factions control everything and are the strongest on the ground." He added, "The factions cannot live without conflict."

He continued: "There are those who want to bring Iraq into the conflict of Iran and the United States, and if there is a peace relationship between the two parties, the factions will have a problem because there is no need for them to exist after them and they will be at risk of disappearing."

In this regard, the deputy head of the PMF, Abu Ali al-Basri, said today that the PMF formations have nothing to do with the entities that targeted the US embassy in Baghdad.

Before that, Asaib Ahl al-Haq movement acquitted itself of targeting the American embassy in Baghdad, confirming that the resistance factions dispensed with "Katyusha" missiles.

For its part, the Hezbollah Brigades confirmed that "the operation that targeted the American Embassy of Evil yesterday, and although it is a natural reaction to the people of the jealous Iraqi people, but the timing is inappropriate, and may cause embarrassment to the Iraqi government."

The leader of the Salvation and Development Front, Atheel al-Nujaifi, said on Monday (January 27, 2020) that the response of the United States of America to the bombing of its embassy in Baghdad will be strong towards those involved .

Al-Nujaifi said in an interview singled out for (Baghdad Today), that "the American response to those described by the armed factions will be strong, and the longer the immediate emotional response is delayed, we expect the response to be more harmful and impacting, as he put it," noting that "the bombing of the American embassy yesterday He created all excuses for the US administration and silenced all those who wanted Trump not to rush to respond . "

And that "all possibilities are now open with regard to sanctions, as well as a direct response to those involved, and all that is said is not to determine the responsibility of who did this, but it opens the option for the Americans to choose the party that they want to target in the first place ."

On Monday (January 27, 2020), the US State Department called on the Iraqi authorities to protect American diplomatic facilities in Iraq, after targeting its embassy in Baghdad yesterday evening.

That’s the key point! They still pose a threat to security. BINGO. That 🎯 is looking nice and shiny day by day. Since the threat is described “a threat to security in Iraq” and because the US embassy has been continually attacked; there should be no problem to eliminate the threat to the security of the USA and Iraq.

Baghdad today - follow up

The spokesman for the Political Bureau of the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq Movement, Mahmoud al-Rubaie, announced on Monday, January 27, 2020, the location of the missiles that targeted the US embassy yesterday.

"The source of the strike that targeted the US embassy in the Green Zone was from the Arab Jabour area south of the capital, and this region does not have resistance factions," Al-Rubaie said in a statement published by the Al-Ahd channel website affiliated to Al-Asaib. ".

He added that "the resistance factions do not need a hidden strike method, and the position of the resistance factions is too big to hit the American embassy in this way, and that the beneficiary from hitting the American embassy is the one who wants hostility to Iraq."

Al-Rubaie continued, "We want the sovereignty of Iraq and the end of American control, and the millions of demonstrations are the real response of the factions to America," noting that "America knows who struck its embassy and accused the factions is part of the work of the American media."

He pointed out that "the resistance factions did not target foreign bases after the exit of their forces from Iraq, and the foreign forces attacked the resistance factions more than once, and the resistance factions did not respond to American violations in respect of Iraq's sovereignty."

Earlier, the deputy chief of the PMF, Abu Ali al-Basri, said on Monday (January 27, 2020) that the PMF's formations had nothing to do with the entities that targeted the US embassy in Baghdad.

Al-Basri said, in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency, that "the popular crowd has nothing to do with the bodies that targeted the American embassy in Iraq," noting that "these groups express themselves, and the popular crowd does not adopt any process."

Al-Basri added that "some parties are trying to put the name of the popular crowd in this case without evidence," stressing that "the crowd formations are present and disciplined, and we have meetings with them and directives."

He continued, "There is a high cooperation between the crowd leaders and security leaders, and this matter has always been focused on by the martyr Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis." Usually, "cooperation between the crowd and the security services is the one who achieved victory in this form and speed."

Al-Basri indicated that "the PMF works with the security services in one operation room and there is a high level of coordination, especially with regard to security operations against terrorism."

The leader of the Asa’ib al-Haq movement, Jawad al-Talibawi, denied on Monday the relationship of the Islamic resistance factions to the bombing of the American embassy, stressing that the missiles used in the bombing are among the weapons that the resistance factions dispensed with for years.

Al-Tulaibawi said in a statement that he received (the information), a copy of it, that "once again we confirm that the recent missile bombing against the embassy of evil in Baghdad is not the work of the Iraqi resistance factions because we have confirmed earlier that the resistance factions will not target the embassies and diplomatic missions in Iraq."

He added that "the missiles used in the bombing are among the weapons that the resistance factions dispensed with for years. We have previously confirmed that our response to the assassination of Haj Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis is not less than the level of the Islamic Republic's response to the assassination of Haj Qassem Soleimani."

The US embassy in the capital, Baghdad, was attacked, yesterday, Sunday, by missile strikes, while there were reports of injuries among Americans.

I have a feeling that Ali Khamenei,  Hassan Rouhani, and Mohammad Javad Zari will all be suddenly confronted with reality, kind of like Soleimani was....

We don't make points, we decimate dictatorships going after our people and our property. Iraq does not belong to Iran in any way. The Shites of Iraq are zealous idiots playing their own countrymen for idiots. But they will learn the hard way, Iraq belongs to the Iraqis! The mullahs and the irgc mimics will try to intimidate us to the best of their back assward ways, as long as they can!

US protests Iranian-backed assaults on US facilities in Iraq

WASHINGTON DC (Kurdistan 24) – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo complained vociferously to Iraq’s caretaker prime minister, Adil Abdul Mahdi, regarding continued attacks on US targets in Iraq by Iranian-backed militias.

In the latest incident, five Katyusha rockets landed near the US embassy on Sunday in Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone. The embassy’s cafeteria was damaged in the assault, which caused one injury.

Speaking on Monday to Abdul Mahdi by telephone, “Pompeo expressed his outrage at the continued assaults by Iran’s armed groups against US facilities in Iraq, including yesterday’s rocket attacks against our Embassy,” according to a statement State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus issued.

Pompeo “underlined once again that these attacks demonstrate a wanton disregard for Iraqi sovereignty” by Iran and “a failure to rein in these dangerous armed groups” by the Iraqi government, she said.

Abdul Mahdi had earlier criticized Sunday’s attack, condemning it as “an act of aggression,” and Pompeo expressed his appreciation for “Abdul Mahdi’s commitment to strengthen security to protect American personnel and diplomatic facilities.”

Hoshyar Zebari, a Kurdish official who served as Iraq’s first Foreign Minister after the 2003 overthrow of Saddam Hussein and later served as Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, described Sunday’s attack in a tweet as “a very dangerous game by #PMF uncontrolled factions to galvanize the tense situation,” as he condemned the actions of the Iranian-backed militias.

Pompeo also described the attack “as an attempt to distract Iraqi and international attention away from the brutal suppression of peaceful Iraqi protestors by Iran and its proxies.”

The suppression of the protests, ongoing since October, by Iraqi security forces has intensified since Friday and has involved the use of live fire, precipitating a joint protest by 16 western embassies in Baghdad.

Pompeo “encouraged” Abdul Mahdi “to maintain Iraqi sovereignty,” while he “reaffirmed the United States’ enduring commitment to the Iraqi people” and “our willingness to discuss the scope of our forces in Iraq over time,” along with “our desire for a strong and prosperous Iraq, as outlined in our bilateral Strategic Framework Agreement,” which the Iraqi government approved in late 2008, during the last days of the George W. Bush administration.
