With Solemaini resting in a shoe box, maybe things have changed for Mustafa al-Kazemi, since last month?

Shafaq News / Iraqi Intelligence Director ,Mustafa Al-Kathemi rejected his candidacy to the head of the government, which turned into a caretaker after Adel Abdul-Mahdi resigned as a result of bloody protests more than two months ago.

Al-Kathemi’s name was put together with a mini-list to head the government, after a popular rejection of the majority of names that are presented informally, especially from party figures or who took positions in successive governments after 2003.

In this regard, Deputy Faik Sheikh Ali was asked, in an intervention at his expense on Twitter, about Al-Kathimi's candidacy to head the Iraqi government, where he replied, "Al-Kazemi - does not accept, he says it is a holocaust."

The political blocs in Iraq are locked in last minute negotiations to name a new candidate to form the transitional government, following the resignation of the previous government headed by Adel Abdul Mahdi early this month.

These consultations and meetings come at a time when Baghdad and nine governorates are witnessing since the beginning of last October, unprecedented demonstrations and sit-ins in the history of Iraq, to demand a change in the political process and legislation for a new election law to form a new government.

Hassam Al-Hosseini is the most fortunate prime minister !!

Baghdad / Sky Press

A source close to political forces confirmed the presentation of a previously known figure for prime minister.

It is likely that this character is "Bassam Reda Al-Husseini." As political sources deliberated, "Al-Husayni is the favorite to take over as prime minister."

A political source from inside the parliament also confirmed that "Bassam Al-Husseini, whose name has been circulated extensively, especially after representatives close to the American administration put forward his name, as he worked as a consultant in the state of Maliki and Haider Al-Abadi."

It is mentioned that "Al-Husseini" held more than one position during the previous Iraqi governments, including the government of Haider al-Abadi and the government of Nuri al-Maliki, where he held the position of adviser to the Prime Minister in the Maliki government for executions. But he did not continue to work, as he was subjected to a decision to refer to retirement.

As for the government of Haider al-Abadi, he also worked as an adviser to him, as news contradicted his assignment to the Iraqi Federation file in the state of Haider al-Abadi, but this was soon denied, and stressed that the Prime Minister will discuss with him the reality of Iraqi football without interfering in his work.

Head of the Bayraq al-Khair Parliamentary Bloc, Muhammad al-Khalidi, affirmed that "the political forces have agreed in principle to one candidate for prime minister."

Adding that "there was almost agreement to choose one candidate from among the names circulated and submitted to the next two days, to the President of the Republic to assign him to form a new government."

As a result, former Deputy Prime Minister Bahaa Al-A’raji tweeted, “There is a political agreement that works to nominate weak personalities, and talk about a political agreement led by effective political blocs.”

It is believed that "Al-Husseini" is largely approved by the main political blocs in Iraq and that he is strongly proposed to head the next government, which will be one of his main tasks calling and preparing for early elections.

It is noteworthy that any candidate who will be appointed as the next prime minister after Abdul-Mahdi will not last for long.

Al-Issawi said in a televised statement, followed by "Al-Akhbaria", that "there are two names for the prime minister, and one person has been approved by the Shiite and Sunni forces and has been put before the Kurdish blocs." He added, "The candidate cannot be named, except that he is close to the general situation and holds an executive position in the current sustenance, and he may be assigned within the next two days."

He continued, "The President of the Republic has the right to assign a personality to the Prime Minister to end the crisis without any delay," noting that "the talk about the inability to assign the new Prime Minister without the presence of Parliament is absolutely inaccurate."

On Monday, the head of the Bayraq al-Khair bloc, MP Muhammad al-Khalidi, confirmed that five are competing for the prime minister, noting that the most prominent of them is Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi and Mustafa al-Kazemi.

Jaber said in a statement to the "information", that "there is a surprise regarding the silence of the President of the Republic regarding the non-assignment of a figure among the candidates to succeed Abdul-Mahdi as prime minister, as the matter should be resolved and the country avoids more crises and problems that it lives."

He added that "most of the nominated names are far from the political blocs, as Ali Shukri and Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, in addition to Abdul-Ghani al-Asadi, are still candidates for the prime minister."

And that "the file of the prime minister is expected to be resolved within the next 48 hours, as the names mentioned are a strong competition for this position."

The Iraq uprising awaits a million demonstration from Basra to Baghdad

%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%82-16-

BAGHDAD - Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr was forced to cancel demonstrations that were scheduled to launch for his supporters, on Sunday, against the US embassy in Iraq under the rationale of avoiding "internal strife" and after a wave of popular rejection in the yards of demonstrating in Iraqi cities.

Sadr's supporters opened fire on the Iraqi protesters in Basra, to control a wave of popular anger that circulated among the city, after the decision to withdraw the Sadrist protesters from the squares.

Armed fighters belonging to Al-Sadr’s Saraya Al-Salam militia gathered in Basra city and organized groups with the aim of chasing protesters in squares and alleys, but it is noteworthy that the shooting that was taking place under the eyes of the security forces did not disperse the demonstrators.

Sadr directed his supporters to withdraw from demonstrations across the country, after he was publicly criticized, for sponsoring a large demonstration against the American military presence in Iraq, in which all members of the Iraqi pro-Iranian militias and their leaders participated in Baghdad on Friday.

Although the Sadrists withdrew from all arenas and dismantled the sit-in tents that had erected months ago, the momentum of the protest movement was not affected, but may have increased in Baghdad and Basra at least, with his anger directed mainly towards Sadr himself, and his old new associates close to Iran.

Until dawn on Sunday, protesters were touring Tahrir Square in Baghdad, shouting slogans against Sadr, Iran and the United States alike.

The demonstrators in various provinces called the "tail" on the chest, a term used to describe Iranian agents in Iraq.

The correspondent of the "Arabs" in Baghdad said that the size of the demonstrators' influx on Tahrir on Sunday was more than usual compared to the past few days, while all the spaces left by the Sadrist withdrawal at the sit-in site were refilled, as new tents were installed in them.

A call by prominent activist Alaa al-Rikabi from the city of Nasiriyah to a million demonstration that starts from the city of Basra and passes through all the cities of the south of the country to Baghdad, was met with great interaction.

Al-Rikabi, a pharmacist who participated in the protests of Al-Nasiriyah since its first start, launched his call to the various governorates, proposing a mechanism that includes the three lines of walking on the capital towards Baghdad, with the aim of surrounding the Green Zone and forcing the political class to step down.

Al-Rikabi proposes that the three lines move from southern Iraq, to enter Baghdad at one time, which is the middle of next February, indicating that the remaining period until this date is an opportunity for the political class to save itself.

Bloggers said that al-Rikabi’s plan is tight, because it includes clear timetables, and several alternatives that prevent the government from aborting it.

The Iraqi protesters, who have been demonstrating against the ruling political class in Baghdad since the beginning of last October, were surprised at the fact that Sadr lined up with Iran's allies in one front against the United States, hours after his support for the meeting of Iraqi President Barham Saleh with his American counterpart Donald Trump on the sidelines of the Davos Forum held In Switzerland a few days ago.

The Sadrists formed the backbone of the protest movement that started from the poor areas where Sadr supporters abound, and they lost many dead and wounded in Baghdad and the provinces over the past months, after they confronted the government and its security apparatus with naked issuance.

But the Sadrists ’insistence to distinguish themselves within the protest arenas, and their constant quest to try to dominate and direct its decision, caused great sensitivities among the demonstrators, often evolved into clashes.

Therefore, the Sadrists did not melt among their fellow protesters in the squares, and maintained a clear independence of their protest movement in the various locations where they participated.

Iraqi blogger Amir Abd al-Aziz says, "Maybe al-Sadr is waiting for a moment similar to the moment of 2015, and ten activists are coming to him, seeking help from the suppression of government militias, so the field descends as a leader of the movement." He wants the movement with his hand, subject only to his vision, temperament and taste.

Meanwhile, the leader, Asad Al-Nasiri, announced on Sunday that he defected from the Sadrist movement and joined the protesters on the background of freezing his membership because of his support for the demonstrators.

Al-Sadr ordered, to freeze the work of Sheikh Asaad Al-Nasseri for "disobeying orders", in a sign of his lack of commitment to the decision to stop supporting the current protesters.

"I will take off the turban in love with Iraq and the city of Nasiriyah and the revolutionaries, and I am with the Iraqis, I have been and still will remain, and I hope to rush to kill me (kill me) because I missed the martyrs," Al-Nasiri said in a statement. This is the first split in the Sadrist movement against the backdrop of the position towards the protests.

For the observers, the Sadrist presence was irreplaceable in the protest arenas, especially in Baghdad, Najaf, Basra, and Samawah, but events on Saturday and Sunday may prove the opposite.

The Iraqi media and blogger Saadoun Damad says, “The void left by dismantling the tents of the Sadrist movement can only be observed significantly on both sides of the Nation’s Garden and on both sides of the liberation tunnel on the Al-Khulani side. As for its extension to the tunnel, the scene appears natural to those who did not familiarize the scene on a daily basis, stressing that “the numbers of protesters are many in the square and there is crowding in front of the Turkish restaurant, where enthusiastic songs are chanted.”

In Basra in the south, Sadr supporters opened fire in the air at dawn on Sunday, to disperse groups of demonstrators that circled the city’s streets and chanted slogans denouncing Sadr’s employment to Iran and denouncing his supporters ’departure from the protest grounds, which were heard in the nearby city of Amara also.

Observers said that the withdrawal of Sadr and his supporters from the demonstration squares in Baghdad, may have had the opposite effect, as it freed the broad popular protest movement from dependence on the power of one man, and pushed it to new initiatives.

On the other hand, al-Sadr’s joining the Iranian axis at the level of popular stances still has not been translated politically, as his opposition to the Iranian-backed candidate to head the new Iraqi government remains, to succeed the resigned Adel Abdul-Mahdi.

Well-informed political sources in Baghdad told Al-Arab that “the Al-Fateh Alliance, led by Hadi Al-Amiri, close to Iran, is now behind the nomination of former Communications Minister Mohammed Allawi to form the new government.” But he faces a large bloc opposing this desire, which includes Sadr as well as the parties. Kurdish and major Sunni forces.

The sources indicate that the bloc opposing Allawi's candidacy, submitted on behalf of Intelligence Director Mustafa Al-Kazemi to be a settlement candidate to form the new government, but was met with a large Iranian objection, given the alleged links between Al-Kazemi and the United States of America.

Despite the absence of any prospect of political consensus on the candidate for the formation of the government, but many sources confirm that the settlement of this file is very close, and it may fall into the sea this week.

Deputy for Al-Fateh: Allawi agreed to two important conditions laid down by the Shiite forces and his assignment would take place within days

Politics 01/27/2001 16:01 817

Baghdad today - follow up

Member of the Alliance of Fateh Mukhtar al-Moussawi confirmed on Monday 27-1-2020 that the candidate, Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, is close to winning the position of Prime Minister of the transitional government and his appointment may take place within days after agreeing to two conditions set by the Shiite forces.

Moussawi said in a statement that I followed (Baghdad today) that "the candidate for the presidency of the Council of Ministers Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi arrived in the capital Baghdad in the middle of last week on a visit that lasted 48 hours, during which he held talks with the President of the Republic, leaders of the blocs and political parties in preparation for his mandate to form the government."

The various media outlets dealt with news in the middle of last week that Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, one of the candidates for the position of Prime Minister of the transitional government, arrived in Baghdad in order to assign him to head the Council of Ministers.

This news was preceded by a movement led by President Barham Saleh, along with heads and representatives of parliamentary blocs and leaders of political parties, in which he focused on the possibility of announcing the name of the new candidate to head the government before traveling to the Davos Forum in Switzerland.

On the negotiations that took place between Allawi and the political forces, MP Al-Mousawi explains that "the Shiite blocs set two conditions in exchange for their agreement to assign Muhammad Allawi as head of the interim government, the first of which is his agreement to remove the American forces from Iraqi lands, and the second is to implement the agreement with the Chinese side," stressing that "Allawi expressed his approval To implement these two conditions. "

A member of the Foreign Relations Committee continues, "Whoever hindered the appointment of Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi to head the government last week is his refusal of conditions set by a particular parliamentary bloc (refused to disclose it) by granting the ministries of finance and oil in exchange for their approval to assign him," noting that

" As for the nomination of intelligence chief Mustafa Al-Kazemi, the deputy from Nineveh Governorate replied that “Al-Fateh’s bloc led by Hadi al-Amiri rejects Al-Kazemi’s candidacy for the position of prime minister because of his link to the American side on the one hand, and his failure (as he put it) to head the intelligence service over the past years on the other hand.

OK, we now know who won’t be the next PM.
Muhammad Allawi has obviously been taken over by the Iranians since his last job in Iraq. His profile in Google needs to be updated because the protesters, Kurds and Sunies will never agree to this Iranian puppet...

Al-Khalidi reveals the name "the favorite to head the government" and confirms: Great pressure on Saleh to not pass him

The head of the Parliamentary Bloc of Al-Khair bloc, Muhammad Al-Khaldi, confirmed today, Monday, that great pressure is being exerted on the president of the republic under the pretext that the deadline for selecting a candidate has been prolonged, in order not to pass the candidate for the post of prime minister, who is still the most fortunate, Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, as he did not submit to the dictates that tried Political blocs imposed on him.

Al-Khalidi said in statements followed by "Al-Akhbariya", "The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, has resisted throughout the past period, despite the fact that the deadline for forming the government has been prolonged, so we do not want, under the pretext of time pressure, that the blocs that do not think of Iraq’s interest succeed as much as their thinking about their interests." A candidate assigned by the President of the Republic who goes to Parliament, although he is not the best option."

He added that "there are several candidates, including candidates who were subject to the dictates of the blocs, because the candidate who was not subject to any of these pressures and demanded by the demonstrators is Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi," noting that "in the absence of the largest bloc, it is necessary to go to a road, even if it is not correct and The path of compromise, which is either that the President of the Republic sends several names to Parliament for the purpose of agreeing on one of them or adopts what was presented by the demonstrators and supported by about 60 deputies in Parliament, which will be seen during the next few days.

Al-Khalidi explained that "the development of events makes us obligated to swift measures that contain the crisis in an optimal way, especially as the reference has reiterated its position on the necessity of resolving the prime minister candidate in the fastest time. The street and mass demonstrations have taken on an escalating nature and the gap has increased between the citizen and politicians after the high level of feeling of procrastination and procrastination. In meeting the demands."

Al-Khaldi pointed out that "putting forward any controversial or weak candidates or supported by foreign or partisan agendas, which means firing a bullet of mercy on the entire political process. Therefore, logic and wisdom necessitate assigning the President of the Republic to those who have national powers and personalities with signatures exceeding sixty sign and consistent with the demands The masses and the attributes they set for the candidate."

The building bloc had formally presented the name of Mohamed Shiaa Al-Sudani and Asaad Al-Eidani, who were met by the protesters and others, and the President of the Republic rejected them in turn, which escalated the tension inside the political class.

Rapid developments in the issue of the candidate of the next government .. Get to know it

Rapid developments in the issue of the candidate of the next government .. Get to know it

{Baghdad: Al Furat News} Today and yesterday night there witnessed rapid developments in the issue of the candidate of the next prime minister, as the chances of some began to fade and some of them weakened a lot and in return the emergence of other candidates.

A well-informed political source told Al-Furat News, "The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, is likely to settle his assignment to the candidate for prime minister at the beginning of next week," stressing that "Saleh resumed his talks yesterday and upon his return from traveling abroad, and made extensive contacts that will continue until the file is resolved."

"The president of the republic is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, with representatives of the demonstrators to discuss the file of the next prime minister's candidate and the conditions that must be met," he added.

The source pointed out that "the list of candidates has undergone changes as some of the proposed names have lost their chances while other names have weakened a lot, and in the meantime new names have emerged as candidates for the site adopted by certain alliances."

He continued, "The movement in this regard is progressive and was scheduled to be resolved next Thursday, but the weightings indicate that the settlement will be early next week."

Faced with the pressure of the Iraqi street, the political parties are still unable to reach a solution to the crisis of choosing an alternative for the resigned prime minister, Adel Abdul Mahdi, after failing to assign several candidates after a large popular rejection of him.

The popular demonstrations and sit-ins continue in Tahrir Square in Baghdad and other governorates, with the number of martyrs rising to more than 600 demonstrators and injuring thousands of others.

After a week goes by it’s tomorrow an then it’s next week to determine the PM.
I’m thinking he’s stalling until the new elections next year or until Iran sends him just the right person...

Iraqi Vice President Ayad Allawi has been a long-time critic of Iran’s involvement in Iraqi affairs. “Iran has been interfering even in the decision [making process] of the Iraqi people,” he told Reuters in 2017. “We don’t want an election based on sectarianism. We want an inclusive political process ...

We hope that the Iraqis would choose themselves without any involvement by any foreign power.”

Iran’s religious influence in Iraq has been stymied, however, by rival schools of Shiite thought. The “quietest” clerics of the holy city of Najaf, Iraq, have largely kept their distance from partisan politics. The most revered among them, Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, an octogenarian with millions of followers globally, has supported Iraqi democracy.

The senior clerics of Qom, Iran, have promoted the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s principal of velayat-e faqih, or guardianship of the jurist. Iran has promoted its version of clerical rule in Iraq with limited success. The most vocal supporters have been members of Shiite militias funded and trained by Iran. Harakat Hezbollah al Nujaba’s leader, Sheikh Akram al Kaabi, said he would overthrow Iraq’s government if Supreme Leader Khamenei said it was a religious duty.
