Pelosi Finally Releases Articles Of Impeachment To The Senate After Demanding More Witnesses

A newly revealed letter from Rudy Giuliani — Trump's own lawyer — destroys the president's last defense in Ukraine scandal

  • The House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday released a previously unseen letter that President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani sent to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in May.

  • In the letter, Giuliani requested a meeting with Zelensky and emphasized he was acting in his capacity as Trump's personal lawyer.

  • One day before Giuliani wrote the letter, The New York Times reported that he wanted to meet with Ukrainian officials to discuss former Vice President Joe Biden and Biden's son Hunter.

  • Trump has said his request for Ukraine to investigate the Bidens was linked to an interest in rooting out corruption, which would be in the US's national interest.

  • But Giuliani's letter directly undermines that, as it specifies he was acting as Trump's private attorney; in other words, he was representing the president's personal political interests and not the country's interests.

The House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday released a trove of previously unseen documents that dramatically raise the stakes of the impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.

Among the documents is a letter that Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani sent to Ukraine's newly inaugurated president, Volodymyr Zelensky, in May.

Dated May 10, the letter showed the former New York mayor telling Zelensky he wanted to meet in person on May 13 and May 14.

"Just to be precise, I represent him as a private citizen, not as President of the United States," Giuliani wrote. "This is quite common under American law because the duties and privileges of a President and a private citizen are not the same."

One day before Giuliani wrote the letter, The New York Times reported that he wanted to meet with Ukrainian officials to discuss former Vice President Joe Biden and Biden's son Hunter.

Specifically, he wanted the Ukrainian government to investigate Hunter Biden's involvement as a board member of the Ukrainian natural-gas company Burisma Holdings.

"We're not meddling in an election, we're meddling in an investigation, which we have a right to do," Giuliani told The Times when asked whether by going to Ukraine and pressing for the inquiry he was inviting foreign interference in the 2020 election.

Trump and Giuliani's efforts to pressure Ukraine into delivering dirt on the Bidens and Burisma make up the center of Congress' impeachment proceedings against Trump. Last month, the House of Representatives impeached Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

The president has said his request for Ukraine to investigate the Bidens was linked to an interest in rooting out corruption, which would be in the US's national interest.

But Giuliani's letter directly undercuts that because it specifies he was acting in his capacity as Trump's private attorney; in other words, he was representing the president's personal political interests and not the country's interests.

Tuesday's document dump came one day before House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was scheduled to announce the impeachment managers — lawmakers tasked with leading the prosecution against the president — in Trump's Senate trial.

Two names that have been floated so far are Rep. Adam Schiff of California, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, and Rep. Jerry Nadler of New York, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.

Both men were instrumental in overseeing the lower chamber's investigation into the president's conduct, and Schiff, as a former prosecutor, is widely expected to be the tip of the Democratic spear in the Senate trial.

Later Wednesday, the House is expected to formally vote to transmit the two articles of impeachment against Trump to the Senate, officially triggering a trial. The Republican-led Senate will then vote on the rules of the trial. One of the key questions they're expected to address is whether to call witnesses.

Democrats have insisted the Senate must call witnesses to testify in order for the trial to be fair and impartial. Republicans, meanwhile, argue that they don't need new witness testimony because the impeachment proceeding itself has been a sham process.

But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell conceded to reporters on Tuesday that he expected at least a handful of Republican senators to side with Democrats on calling witnesses, meaning he may have to cave after all.

The above referenced letter states nothing about Biden....

As an Attorney, Guiliani has a right to do investigative work for his client...... even if it happens to the President.

A little more if you care to educate yourself......the NYT article from May 9....

I actually had 2 in mind, want a hint.  Think eoji’s on one, you’ll never get the other one because only I think the way I do.  Hint on that one is this, today we had Impeachment by the Dems, and a Historical Trade Deal by Trump and Reps.  Good luck figuring that out.  Not a common word.

Why did Rudy, as attorney for private citizen Trump, want to talk to the President of Ukraine?  Why would he have to talk to him at all in that capacity?  Actually, why would he need to talk to him at all?

GO RV, then BV

Rudy has had business dealings in Ukraine since 2004....who knows....he may be right in there with the Bidens, Kerry's  and Pelosi's in generating a cash flow through the Ukrainian corruption......

He certainly, at the least, would have knowledge of how it works over there.  If I had a friend, or client, who was being framed for something they didn't do......I would try to help them out too.

Oddly enough Pelosi's grand speech on the articles of impeachment went on about how the Russians in 2016 had stold the election for Trump....and she wasn't going to let that happen again in 2020.......Russia, Russia, Russia, all over again......thought that aspect had been settled with the Mueller report....

I don't recall rigged elections mentioned in either of the 2 articles of impeachment.....

Hope I answered your question.....and for the record after 9/11 Mayor Rudy became kind of a big deal.....he has been greeted by leaders all over the world.....
