The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan region of Iraq, Masroor Barzani
 08 January 2020 07:26 AM

Direct: The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq said that he discussed in a phone call the current developments in Iraq with the United States of America Mike Pompeo this morning, Wednesday.

Masroor Barzani, in a tweet on his official account on the social networking site "Twitter", added that he suggested to the United States Secretary of State "ways to cancel the escalation and contain the situation."

This came after  the Iranian Revolutionary Guards adopted an attack with dozens of ballistic missiles on two military bases in Iraq,  hosting forces for the United States of America.

And the US Department of Defense, "The Pentagon," it is working to assess the damage caused to its forces present in Iraq after an Iranian ballistic missile attack.

The Pentagon stated that it is clear that these missiles were launched from Iran and targeted at least two Iraqi military bases hosting military and coalition members at Ein al-Assad and Erbil.

In a statement, the Pentagon said that, given the dynamic nature of the situation, "we will continue to provide updates as they become available."

He pointed out that in recent days, and in response to Iranian threats and actions,  the Ministry of Defense has taken all appropriate measures to protect its employees and partners .

According to local and Iranian international news agencies, the Iraqi Ain al-Assad airbase, which includes units of the American army, was bombed by ballistic missiles.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has claimed responsibility for launching ballistic missiles at US bases in Iraq, warning Washington of the consequences of the response, according to Iranian news agencies.

The White House issued a statement saying that US President Donald Trump had been briefed on developments in the situation in Iraq.

The White House statement indicated that there are consultations between the US President and the National Security Team.

According to news agencies, the number of rockets has so far reached about 12 ballistic missiles.

And Iraq is witnessing security tensions, after the Pentagon announced last Friday morning, the killing of the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Qassem Soleimani, and Abu Mahdi, the leader of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization, in a missile attack on a drone, targeting their car on the road to Baghdad International Airport.

Full details of the crashed Ukrainian plane in Iran and the killing of all its passengers

94508

After the crash of Kazakhstan plane, last month, a Ukrainian plane joined the list of aviation disasters that attacked the world during the recent period, after it crashed in Tehran, killing all of its passengers.

The plane was subjected to a fall over the capital, Tehran, after taking off from Khomeini Airport, killing all 176 passengers on board, over the capital, Tehran.

In spite of the rescue teams that tried to search for survivors immediately after a plane fell, the Iranian Red Crescent President confirmed to the ISNA agency that it was impossible to find survivors from the plane, to ensure that all the passengers on board were killed.

The Ukrainian plane, which took off from Iran on its way to Kiev, and was a Boeing 737, was subjected to technical problems.

Site of the devastated Ukrainian plane

Immediately after the plane fell, the Ukrainian embassy in Iran announced, on Wednesday, that preliminary information indicates that a malfunction in the engine was behind the crash, and not a missile attack or terrorist act.

Which prompted Ukraine to ask Iran to hand it over to the black box to know the circumstances of the accident, but Iran rejected this request.

Immediately after the crash, moments after taking off from the Khomeini airport, fire broke out, and the Ukrainian embassy in Iran confirmed that the total number of passengers who bought the flight tickets on board was 168, while President Volodymyr Zelinsky banned any speculation about the circumstances of the crash except After the investigations are completed, to confirm that all the passengers on board were killed in the plane crash.

And the plane was subjected to a severe fire that prevented any attempts to rescue, as Bir Hussein Hussein Collifand, the head of Iranian emergency services told state television, where he stressed: "The fire is so severe that we cannot make any rescue efforts ... There are 22 ambulances, four ambulances and a helicopter. in the place".

Rescue teams at the site of the wrecked plane and the

nationalities varied between the passengers who were carrying the stricken plane, where Kiev determined that it was carrying 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 3 British, 3 from Germany, 4 from Afghanistan, 10 from Sweden and 2 from Ukraine, in addition to the crew consisting of 9 Ukrainians, Although the plane was checked to ensure its safety two days before takeoff, according to Ukrainian Airlines, this did not prevent it from crashing.

Speculation, according to the Ukrainian embassy, indicated that preliminary information indicates a malfunction in the engine that led to the plane losing its balance, which exposed it to the downfall.

Regarding the appeals that the pilot of the plane sent to the control tower before the crash, the Iranian media confirmed that the pilot of the stricken Ukrainian plane did not declare a state of emergency and that the plane did not contact the air control tower, while the Ukrainian Airlines suspended flights to Tehran indefinitely.

US knew Iranian missiles were coming ahead of strike on Iraq bases housing American troops

USA TODAY

U.S. officials had advance warning of Iran's missile assault that damaged two Iraqi bases housing U.S. and coalition forces, a U.S. official told USA TODAY.

Iran fired more than a dozen missiles Tuesday in retaliation for a U.S. drone strike days earlier that killed one of Tehran's most powerful military leaders, Qasem Soleimani. Iranian state TV aired video of what its commentators said was the missiles being launched.

The extent of damage to the bases was not immediately clear, but no deaths or injuries were reported. Troops stationed at that base did have advance warning of incoming missiles and were able to scramble for cover, according to a U.S. official speaking to USA TODAY on the condition of anonymity and not authorized to speak publicly.

“The early warning system worked,” the official said.

Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi said in a statement Wednesday that Iran sent Iraq an official verbal message that an attack “had begun or would begin shortly,” on unspecified U.S. military locations. The U.S. military reported the attack at the same time, he said.

CNN, however, reported that Iran notified Iraq in advance and that Iraqi officials then tipped U.S. troops before the attack began.

President Donald Trump said he would address the nation Wednesday.

"All is well!" Missiles launched from Iran at two military bases located in Iraq," Trump posted to Twitter late Tuesday night. "Assessment of casualties & damages taking place now. So far, so good! We have the most powerful and well equipped military anywhere in the world, by far! I will be making a statement tomorrow morning."

NATO has temporarily suspended training of counter-ISIS forces in Iraq following the attack, a NATO official who was not authorized to speak publicly told USA TODAY. Some of the military personnel have been moved to new positions in and outside of Iraq, the officials said.

Anti-government protesters in Iraq blocked streets near Baghdad’s Tahrir Square during a demonstration against the Iranian intervention in their country. The protesters carrying Iraqi flags shouted “Iran out, out!” before they were dispersed by security forces.

Meanwhile, top Trump administration officials are headed to Capitol Hill on Wednesday to brief lawmakers on the latest developments. Members of Congress initially sought Wednesday's closed-door briefings to learn more about Trump's surprise decision last week to authorize a drone strike that killed Gen. Qasem Soleimani, Iran's second most powerful official.

Kuwait - Mubasher: The head of the Government Communication Center, the official spokesman for the Kuwaiti government, Tariq Al-Muzaram, today, Wednesday, clarified the truth about the penetration of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

This came after the publication of a tweet on the agency’s website on the Twitter site - "Twitter", according to which Kuwaiti Defense Minister Ahmed Mansour received an official letter from the commander of the American Camp Arifjan, announcing the withdrawal of all American forces within 3 days from Kuwait, which turned out to be incorrect.

And that incident came after the American Defense Department announced, " On Friday morning, the  Pentagon  claimed responsibility for the killing of the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Qassem Soleimani, and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the leader of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization" in a missile attack on a drone plane, targeting their car on the Baghdad Airport road. Iraq: Iran informed us before the start of its missile attacks against American forces

Very interesting because I just found the below information. So if Iran informed Iraq as a proxy to get the information to the US, then looks like Iran might actually be trying to de-escalate this situation. Iran is clearly no match militarily for the US, so it would be the smart move. And as people are saying, Iran has just been bullying everyone but now that Trump's called them on it, I for one would expect them to do something exactly like this. The second tweet below is from a One America News Network reporter and he's reporting "Iran will stop attacking US targets if the US doesn't retaliate" for Iran's attack yesterday.  Sure would be great if things play out this way.

It figures......  And the tragic stampede during the funeral where 32 people were killed happened because the the poor people were so desperate to get one of the 40,000 free meals.  I so hope Iran and Iraq can give their corrupt leaders the boot!  https://www.oann.com/reports-ayatollah-regime-giving-away-free-meals-to-draw-crowds-at-soleimanis-funeral/

UPDATED 1:20 PM PT — Tuesday, January 7, 2020

Iran’s Ayatollah regime is giving away free meals to convince people to attend funeral events for late General Qasem Soleimani. According to Iranian state media Tuesday, regime officials prepared 40,000 portions of warm food for attendees of Soleimani’s funeral ceremonies.

Iranian dissidents say the regime is working to draw tens of thousands of people to convince the world Soleimani was a popular leader in Iran. This effort led to dangerous overcrowding at his funeral ceremony in the city of Kerman Tuesday.

At least 32 people died and 190 others were injured in the stampede.

“We can’t really say how may people really loved him. Don’t forget, in the past few days, the government shut down the schools, universities, theentire country is shut down. So if I’m a student, I remember when I was in Iran, if there was any ceremony my teacher would come say ‘all of you tomorrow will come, cross your name.”  –Jiyar Gol, political observer

At least 35 killed and 48 more wounded in a stampede in Soleimani funeral procession in the city of #Kerman in #Iran, officials confirmed.

Many Iranians on social media are comparing the commemorations for Soleimani to the funerals of leaders of the Third Reich and Soviet Union.  (no surprise there I guess)

How did the world react to Iran's attack on American bases?

How did the world react to Iran's attack on American bases?

 08 January 2020 02:18 PM
Mubasher - Sally Ismail: A few days after the killing of the Iranian Quds Force commander, " Qassem Soleimani ", after a US air raid, Tehran on Wednesday retaliated by bombing US military bases.

However, the question remains. Are we witnessing a new escalation in the geopolitical tensions between Washington and Tehran ?, And what about the movements of high markets following this Iranian act?

And at the end of last week , the United States launched an air strike on Baghdad International Airport, targeting the Iranian military commander, Soleimani.

And Iran launched earlier today more than 10 ballistic missiles targeting at least two military bases in Iraq that host the American army and members of the coalition forces at the base of Ain al-Assad and Erbil.

In his first reaction from US President Donald Trump to the Iranian attack, he said: "Everything is fine. Iran has launched missiles at two military bases in Iraq."

He explained that the process of assessing losses and damages is taking place at the present time, noting that he will make a statement later in the day.

1024.jpg

The US president stressed that the United States has the most powerful army in the world that has the best military equipment ever.

Before the Iranian attack, Trump had threatened that the United States would respond forcefully and quickly to any retaliatory move by Tehran while advising Iran not to take such a step .

The Pentagon asserts that it will take all necessary measures to protect and defend Americans, partners, and allies in the region in conjunction with assessing the situation and the response of the United States.

In the same context, the US Federal Aviation Agency imposed restrictions to prevent United States civil aviation companies from operating in airspace over Iraq, Iran, Gulf waters and the Gulf of Oman.

1024.jpg

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif confirmed that his country has taken appropriate measures in accordance with the principle of self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

He continued: "We do not seek escalation or war, but we will defend ourselves against any aggression."

1024.jpg

For its part, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Line, in a tweet on Twitter , demanded that the use of weapons be stopped immediately in order to allow space for dialogue.

She added: "We are required to do our utmost to revive the talks. We have established relationships with many actors in the region and outside in order to calm the situation."

1024.jpg

For his part, the UAE Energy Minister said that OPEC is ready to deal with the recent tensions in the Middle East, stressing that no country accepts the possibility of oil prices rising to the level of $ 100 a barrel again.

The airlines reacted to the escalation of geopolitical tensions, as a number of international airlines announced the suspension of their flights in Iraqi and Iranian airspace.

"Air France" said that it had suspended all its flights in the airspace of Iraq and Iran until further notice, until the situation was monitored and in order to ensure the safety of its flights.

Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, EVA Taiwan and Malaysia Airlines also canceled flights to the region until further notice.

What about global markets?

And the impact of the strike spread across risky assets, to shade red in all global markets, as the Japanese stock market fell at the end of today's session with the Nikkei losing 370 points and Chinese shares also fell by more than 1 percent.

At the beginning of today's session, European stocks fell all their indicators, as the fall dominated the Wall Street futures contracts.

In contrast, investors moved towards safe assets such as gold , which exceeded the price of $ 1,600 an ounce for the first time in 7 years before reducing the severity of its rise later in trading.

Also, oil prices also witnessed strong gains, with Brent crude approaching $ 72 a barrel before reducing later, amid fears that the Iranian strike and escalation in the east would have negative effects on supplies.

With the hedge dominating investor sentiment in the current difficult times, they scrambled for government bonds, and the yield on US government debt fell .

Meanwhile, the bitcoin electronic currency rose to the highest level of $ 8,000 with the escalation of geopolitical tensions.

However, it is noticeable that the markets reduced their vulnerability to the Iranian attack on the American forces, with the fact that the US is calm and optimistic about the matter.

you can not reason with terrorists! Dialogue...is she serious? Dialogue will not stop idiots from strapping a bomb to themselves and not only killing themselves but other innocent people. Dialogue does not stop idiots from driving planes into buildings. No,... the only way to deal with this type of mentality is complete elimination! They have been this way since Biblical times. They should have been wiped out way back then.

US troops got a heads up of missile attack: Iraqi PM reveals he warned America of imminent strikes after getting tip-off from as US official says early detection system based 6,000 miles away in Maryland worked

  • Iran fired more than a dozen missiles at the Ain al-Asad airbase in western Iraq and the Erbil base in Iraqi Kurdistan in the early hours of Wednesday local time
  • US troops were able to scramble to cover after 'early warning system' triggered
  • Meanwhile Iraqi PM said he received a call from Tehran about an imminent strike
  • US National Security Agency's base at Fort Meade, Maryland, is devoted to such detection, using a range of satellites, radar and heat detection to gather data
  • Pentagon reported no immediate casualties but searches continued last night

The Iraqi Prime Minister revealed today that Iran gave him a tip-off about last night's missile strikes, giving time for troops to scramble to bunkers.

US troops also got a heads up warning from America's advanced detection system.

Iran fired more than a dozen missiles at the Ain al-Asad airbase in western Iraq and the Erbil base in Iraqi Kurdistan in the early hours of Wednesday local time.

PM Adel Abdul Mahdi received a call from Tehran warning him an attack was imminent in retaliation for the US killing of its highest ranking general, his spokesman said.

CNN, citing an Arab diplomatic source, said that Iraqi officials then passed the information on to US troops before the attack began.

US troops were also alerted to the danger using an 'early warning system,' an official revealed.

This is believed to refer to the little-known National Security Agency base at Fort Meade, Maryland, which gathers real-time intelligence on missile launches.

The Iraqi PM said he was told by Iran it would only target locations where U.S. forces were present but did not specify the locations, his spokesman said.

However, as the missiles were raining down on the US bases, he also received a call from Washington to tell him what they knew of the assault.

Iran targeted the U.S. late Tuesday by firing more than a dozen ballistic missiles at two military bases in Iraq housing American troops

The NSA's base at Fort Meade, the Defense Special Missile and Aerospace Center (DEFSMAC) uses a range of satellites, radar and heat detection to gather intelligence on missile launches as they happen.

'The early warning system worked,' an official told USA Today.

So far no casualties have been reported, the Pentagon issued a statement last night saying, 'We are working on initial battle damage assessments.'

Those in harm's way at the Ain al-Asad airbase are understood to have taken cover in bunkers throughout the bombardment, putting in place well-drilled practices.

What do we know about DEFSMAC:

The Defense Special Missile and Astronautics Center has served the Pentagon since 1964, according to a declassified NSA report.

The Department of Defense said in 2012: 'DEFSMAC is located at NSA headquarters at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, and has been in operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for almost 50 years.'

It outlines how in the 1970s the emphasis was on Soviet missiles and space launches, but as other nations gathered such arsenals from Africa to China, it became a global detection system.

'The Gulf War in 1991 gave DEFSMAC a chance to shine,' the report says.

Buildings were still being searched to find possible casualties, an official said. Iraqi officials confirmed there had not been any casualties among their forces.

President Donald Trump tweeted that 'all is well' and 'so far so good' as the damage and casualties continued to be assessed.

The Iraqi military said 22 missiles were fired in total - 17 at the Asad base, two of which failed to explode, and five more that struck Erbil International Airport.

US officials put the total slightly lower at 15 - ten of which hit Asad, one which hit Erbil, four which failed in flight.

The Fort Meade base evolved during the Cold War and detected Iraq's launch of Scud missiles during the first Gulf War, NBC reported.

The 22 missiles fired last night are believed to be a combination of the Qiam-1s or Fateh-110s.

The majority of those used are believed to be the Fateh-110, which can travel 180 miles or 300km and have a payload of around 500lb.

Reports also suggest the Qiam-1 was also used, a short range ballistic missile produced by Iran which can travel 500 miles and carry 750lb warheads.

The Fateh-110 is an Iranian-designed, short-range, surface-to-surface ballistic missile that can be launched from any location.

Everyone should be excited about their investment right now.

Iran's "missile attack," was all theatrics for their citizens. It reveals how weak they are. They actually leaked the target sites to the US so no casualties would occur. Weak! The brilliant assassination of Soleimani and al-Muhandis didn't cut off the head, it castrated them. This isn't the Iran regime of the 70's or 80's. This regime is scared and knows it's on the edge of collapse.

Now watch Trump's address to the nation focus on de-escalation and avoiding war. It's a good outcome for everyone, especially US soldiers, Iraqis, and investors.
