Baghdad - news

On Sunday, caretaker Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi said that it was in the interests of Iraq and Washington to end the foreign presence.

Abdul Mahdi said in his speech to Parliament: "We ask Parliament to study all the consequences before taking any decision regarding the American presence," noting that "it is in the interest of both countries to end the military presence in Iraq."

He added: Iraq is facing an urgent end to the troop presence or a timetable to end its presence, noting that "the conflict increased between the priorities of Iraq and Washington, which undermined confidence between the two parties."

He continued: "Before the assassination of Engineer and Suleimani in Baghdad, we had pressure tools and we lost an important part of it now," noting that "Iraq is facing an immediate end to the presence of the American forces or a return to the UN decision to be there."

Iranian militias threaten parliamentarians to prevent them from entering Baghdad

In a new attempt to impose terrorism on Iraqis, extremist Iraqi militias loyal to the Iranian mullahs regime have threatened members of the Iraqi parliament with retaliation against the emergency parliament session called for by Shiite political blocs.

Media reports stated that the militias of the Iraqi Hezbollah, affiliated with the Popular Mobilization Forces, threatened parliament members before the session, with retaliation against any political bloc that failed to vote.

Initial information indicates that the Iraqi Hezbollah, in particular, threatened parliamentarians and Kurds if they voted against the militia’s desire, threatening to prevent them from entering the capital Baghdad if they refuse to pass the law.

And the Iraqi parliament is holding an emergency session today called for by Shiite political blocs loyal to Iran, claiming to discuss the political response to the killing of the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Qassem Soleimani, and deputy head of the Popular Mobilization militia Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.

Information indicates that some pro-Iranian representatives backed by their armed militias are seeking to pass a law to remove American forces from Iraq.

COUNCIL OF REPRESENTATIVES VOTES TO EXPEL FOREIGN TROOPS FROM IRAQ

Ends security agreement with Coalition forces

http://www.nrttv.com/En/News.aspx?id=18838&MapID=2

SULAIMANI — The Council of Representatives on Sunday (January 5) voted to end the presence of foreign troops in the country, just two days after the US killed a top Iranian commander and Iraqi militia commander in a strike in Baghdad.

The Iraqi Parliament held its extraordinary session to consider a resolution asking the government to expel US troops from the country.

The Council of Representatives decided to end a security agreement with the US-led Coalition Forces supporting the federal government in the ISIS fight.

NRT Digital Media reporter Omed Mohammed said that caretaker Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi arrived in the parliament building on Sunday afternoon (January 5), indicating the seriousness of the session.

Mohammed said the Kurdish and Sunni blocs had not participated in the session.

Abdul Mahdi addressed the lawmakers saying the federal government does not support US sanctions on Iran but it will not also be an enemy to the US.

“The US drones and helicopters are flying in the Iraqi skies without asking for permission from the federal government,” he said.

Abdul Mahdi also said Baghdad had called on the US to send more troops to protect the US embassy in Baghdad, where Iran-backed Shia militia supporters gathered to condemn US strikes on Hashd al-Shaabi.

Iraqi militia leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was killed in a US strike on Friday, had convinced the militia supporters to withdraw from US embassy compound vicinity during the protests, he added.

“Those attacks had no legal basis,” Abdul Mahdi said, referring to the US strike that killed Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Chief Qassem Soleimani and Muhandis.

Abdul Mahdi further said that Soleimani was scheduled to meet him in his visit to Baghdad.

“We are determined to make a national decision about that matter. We have two options, one to end the presence of foreign troops in Iraq in a speedy measure, or two to return to the previous decisions of the previous of this cabinet which called for the prevention of foreign troops’ presence in Iraq, just to stay to train Iraqi forces for Daesh fight,” he added, using an Arabic acronym for Islamic State (ISIS).

Abdul Mahdi noted that the foreign troops must not carry out military acts on Iraqi soil. The government of Iraq should reduce the numbers of the foreign troops in Iraq.

The Iraqi caretaker PM called on the lawmakers to approve the first option that calls for the end of the presence of the foreign troops in Iraq.

Abdul Mahdi said Iraq is able to preserve its sovereignty without the presence of the foreign troops.

NRT reporter said a clause was added to a proposal that calls for the end of the presence of foreign troops. Lawmakers voted to approve the clause stating that weapons should be only at the hand of the government.

Baghdad

On Sunday, the leader of the Sadrist movement and the alliance of Muqtada al-Sadr called on the House of Representatives to cancel the security agreement with America and close its embassy.

In his tweet on Twitter, Al-Sadr said: "The points that I received should be voted on in the parliament regarding the American presence in Iraq, and I consider it a poor response that does not meet the American violation of Iraqi sovereignty, regional escalation, and its declaration of hostility to religion and sect."

And he added: "So I announce that the following is not done: First: Cancel the security agreement immediately and not abide by its unfair and humiliating provisions. Second: Close the American embassy of evil in Iraq immediately. Third: Close the US bases and expel them with humiliation. Fourth: Criminalize communication with the American government and punish Fifth: Supporting the Iraqi army and security forces with the disciplined national resistance to protect the sovereignty, borders, and skies of Iraq. Sixth: Protecting other embassies in Iraq. Seventh: Boycotting American products in Iraq, even more comprehensive than that.

Al-Sadr called the Iraqi resistance factions in particular and the factions outside Iraq to an immediate meeting to announce the formation of (international resistance regiments), stressing that "If parliament does not do so, we have greater behavior

Seems as it was all about the money and Iran after all, never about the  citizens of Iraq that will endure more hardship ahead unless a civil war would kick Iran influence out for good! Citizens already disapproved the actual government in Iraq, so let them with a little help decide if they want to be Iran's money providers on their behave, or be a  really free country! I hope for the best, but brace for the worst!

Sadr has been pretty consistant in his dislike for the West and showing favor for Iran.

How the US works their ME diplomacy is beyond me.  Soleimani killed American Military and is still on a US terrorist list.....yet he was considered to be an Ally in the fight against ISIS.... He should have been eliminated long ago.....Sadr also has US military blood on his hands.....and he is a supposed "holy man"....

It's complicated.....

The Sunni's and Kurds did'nt show up today.... was that out of fear.....or perhaps from a position of non support?

Looks like Saturday will be a final vote....Sadr wants the US out......Embassy and all.....

Should be an interesting week!

😮
