WASHINGTON, D.C. (WSPA) – United States Senator from South Carolina Lindsey Graham weighed in on the killing of an Iranian leader on Thursday.

The Pentagon confirmed US military killed Qassem Soleimani, head of Iran’s elite Quds Force, at direction of President Trump.

“This action by President Trump and our military was in direct response to Iranian aggression orchestrated by General Soleimani and his proxies,” Graham tweeted. “To the Iranian government: if you want more, you will get more.”

Wow – the price of killing and injuring Americans has just gone up drastically. Major blow to Iranian regime that has American blood on its hands. Soleimani was one of the most ruthless and vicious members of the Ayatollah's regime. He had American blood on his hands.

Thank you, Mr. President, for standing up for America.

Soleimani was killed in an airstrike at Baghdad’s international airport, according to the Associated Press.

They report that Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy commander of Iran’s-backed militias known as the Popular Mobilization Forces, was also killed.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Friday that the US strike targeting Qasim Soleimani was "legal", describing the risk of not moving against Iran as "tremendous", adding that "by killing Soleimani we foiled an imminent Iranian attack."

He said that the decision to kill Soleimani was endorsed by President Trump, and he is ready for all Iranian threats.

In an interview with CNN, he said: "We do not seek war with Iran and we will not stand idly by, and we see Americans at risk."

The American Secretary of State said that the world and the Americans in the region have become more secure after the killing of Soleimani, adding that Washington will continue to work for American interests in the region, stressing that Iran must stop its behavior by destabilizing Iraq, because "the Iraqi people seek to limit Iranian influence in His country, "he said.

Pompeo said that America did what it could to protect American interests in the region, adding: "We take into account the risks of launching Iranian cyber attacks on America."

I spoke today with Chinese Politburo Member Yang Jiechi to discuss @realDonaldTrump's decision to eliminate Soleimani in response to imminent threats to American lives. I reiterated our commitment to de-escalation.

Pompeo had said on Twitter that he had made contacts with China and Britain, and confirmed that the United States was committed to reducing the escalation, after the American operation that targeted the commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Qassem Soleimani, in Iraq and led to his killing and a number of his companions outside Baghdad airport.

Pompeo tweeted, on his Twitter account, that Soleimani's killing was a "defensive measure" by Washington.

Earlier, after Pompeo announced the killing of the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, Qassem Soleimani , an American operation, saying that the Iraqis danced in the streets for freedom, and chanted "No Soleimani after today."

Iraqis — Iraqis — dancing in the street for freedom; thankful that General Soleimani is no more.

Pompeo attached a video showing Iraqis celebrating the streets after the killing of Soleimani.

A video clip, posted on the social networking site "Twitter", at dawn on Friday, showed the joy of the youth in Iraq with news of the killing of the Quds Force commander , Qassem Soleimani, in an American missile attack on a car he was traveling outside Baghdad airport.

The video showed young men running with joy, carrying the flag of Iraq, shouting and clapping.

The videographer, who hears his voice with the clip, says that these celebrations took place at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, after the announcement of the killing of Soleimani.

He added that those crowds came out celebrating the blood revenge of those who were killed by Iranian militias in the recent protests.

The US Associated Press reported some details about the operation , saying that the raid targeting Soleimani took place near the cargo area at Baghdad Airport, and that his targeting took place moments after he got off the plane that transported him.

The Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath correspondent in Iraq reported that the targeting of Soleimani took place at one in the morning Baghdad time, and that there were reports of the use of 4 missiles in the process of targeting Soleimani and his companions.

The agency added that Iraqi officials confirmed that Soleimani's body had been torn to pieces.

He added that those crowds came out celebrating the blood of those who were killed by Iran's militias in the recent protests.

"Organized assassination"

It is noteworthy that a series of incidents targeted the vicinity of the airport in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, at dawn on Friday, as 3 violent explosions rocked the capital, according to the announcement of the official statement of the Security Media Cell.

They were targeted using Katyusha rockets, which landed inside the vicinity of the airport, killing and wounding a number of people.

According to reports that this operation is an organized assassination carried out using airplanes, and targeted a number of leaders and members of the popular crowd, while exiting the airport from the southern gate accompanied by a non-Iraqi delegation.

Meanwhile, reports indicated that some of the Iranian leaders from the Revolutionary Guards were present, as the missile target killed the Quds Force commander, Qassem Soleimani, and the second man in the Hashd militia, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and the official in the Hashd Relations Directorate, Muhammad al-Jabri, and the Vehicles Officer Haider Ali.

The operation also left a number of charred bodies, which have not yet been identified.

On the other hand, there were almost certain reports of the killing of Muhammad al-Kawtharani, a leader in the Lebanese Hezbollah, and responsible for the Iraqi file in the party following the targeting.

The events in Baghdad International Airport come two days after the Hashd militia attacked the American embassy in Baghdad, following American air strikes on bases belonging to the militias of the Hezbollah Brigades in Iraq.

On Friday, a US Democratic Senator considered the killing of the second most powerful person in Iran, which would cause a regional war.

I fully expected the Dems to criticize the President in a time of crisis.

Where was this Senator when our Base was under attack.

I didn’t hear one word of condemnation from the Congress when our Embassy was stormed and burned.

What most people dont understand is we have been at war with Iran for 40 years. Does anyone remember the attack on the Marine barracks in Lebanon.  How about the attack on the USS Cole.  I don’t like war or the talk of war but when another country continuously attacks the US and our interests for 40 years then maybe it’s time to defend ourselves.

Our Congress is spineless and a bunch of cowards if they don’t get behind the President at this time.

President Trump Departs White House For Michigan Campaign Rally On Day Of House Impeachment Vote

President Donald Trump explained in a series of tweets Friday why the U.S. opted to strike top Iranian military leader Qasem Soleimani, accusing the general of plotting to kill Americans.

The Pentagon confirmed Thursday night that the U.S. was behind a drone strike that killed Soleimani, the leader of Iran’s elite Quds Force, in Iraq. The president had yet to personally speak about the news last night, instead opting to tweet an image of an American flag. (RELATED: Pentagon Says Trump Ordered Airstrike That Killed Top Iranian General At Baghdad Airport)

It wasn’t until Friday morning that Trump explained his decision to order the strike.

“General Qassem Soleimani has killed or badly wounded thousands of Americans over an extended period of time, and was plotting to kill many more…but got caught! He was directly and indirectly responsible for the death of millions of people, including the recent large number of PROTESTERS killed in Iran itself,” Trump tweeted. “While Iran will never be able to properly admit it, Soleimani was both hated and feared within the country.”

He continued, “They are not nearly as saddened as the leaders will let the outside world believe. He should have been taken out many years ago!”
