On Thursday, the deputy from the Al-Fateh Alliance Fadel Al-Fatlawi confirmed that political differences kept Basra Governor Asaad Al-Eidani from competing for the post of prime minister, while he revealed intense political meetings with the President of the Republic Barham Saleh to name a new person within 48 hours.

Al-Fatlawi said in a statement to the "information", that "Al-Idani moved away from the competition department to obtain the position of prime minister because of the opposition of the political blocs on it," pointing out that "most of the names that were proposed were excluded because of a political reservation."

He added that "the political blocs are conducting intensive meetings with the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, to nominate the new Prime Minister, provided that it has the support of Parliament and the Street," noting that "Saleh will present a new personality for the Prime Minister within 48 hours to resolve it for the purpose of crossing the mainland."

And that "the building coalition did not adopt the nomination of any new personality after the nomination of Basra Governor Asaad Al-Eidani to take over as prime minister."

Yesterday, the deputy for the Alliance of Asaad Abdel-Sadah affirmed that the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, had not yet received any book endorsing the nomination of an independent figure for the prime minister.

Today, Friday, a senior official revealed new information related to the main reason behind the killing of Qassem Soleimani by the United States, adding that the commander of the Iranian Quds Force came to Iraq for two purposes.

"The first goal of Soleimani's visit to Iraq comes to complete the scheme to storm the US embassy in the Green Zone, central Baghdad, after the failure of the first attempt that took place last Tuesday," the official said in a statement to Al-Hurra channel, followed by "Al-Ikhbaria".

The Iraqi official, who requested not to be named, added that "Soleimani arrived Thursday evening in Baghdad and was planning to supervise the storming operation on Friday evening." "Soleimani was upset with the resigned Iraqi Prime Minister, Adel Abdul Mahdi, because he asked the PMF elements to withdraw from the American embassy in Baghdad on Thursday," the senior official said.

He emphasized that "the commander of the Iranian Quds Force, Qassem Soleimani, was planning to reintroduce elements of the Iraqi militias loyal to Tehran once again to the Green Zone to implement the storming and control of the American embassy." "In addition to the plot to storm the US embassy in Baghdad, Soleimani was also planning to press for the imposition of a candidate close to Tehran to take over as prime minister," the senior Iraqi official said.

He said, "Soleimani was planning to interview five candidates, all of whom are former Minister of Communications Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, former commander of the Counter-Terrorism Agency Abdul-Ghani al-Asadi and current intelligence director Mustafa al-Kazemi." He continued, "The other two names are each of the Iraqi businessman residing in Jordan, Majed Al-Saadi and retired judge Mohammed Al-Uraibi."

He emphasized that "the plan requires that the construction bloc led by Hadi al-Amiri present these names to President of the Republic Barham Salih on Friday, with the choice being decided on Saturday and then assigning the new candidate next week after the Iraqi Army holiday, which falls on Monday."

U.S. does not want to control M.E. oil? Then...if that is true...then the U.S. is acting quite strangely, by building a $750 Million Embassy in Baghdad and then staying there, much longer than we need to, if access to their oil was the only concern. It's not the only concern. My guess as to why the U.S. wants to control M.E. oil: not so much that they need the oil. (they don't, you are right about that). It's more like, the political practicality that: if America doesn't stay in Iraq, then Iran will move in, with it's army, and claim control over a very sizable chunk of the world's oil. Since Iran hates our guts and wants to build or buy nuclear weapons and Iran hates SA, our biggest oil ally, who helps prop up the American dollar by only trading oil in dollars, America has plenty of motivation to control ME oil....even if America exports oil.

If the U.S. leaves the ME and things go bad and some bad scenarios play out, there is a very high cost to the U.S., if that happens. Avoiding those costs is best, which is why America still has troops in Iraq....imo

I somewhat agree with you. Where I agree to disagree is your piece about SA propping up the USD by selling/buying oil in USD. Now a days almost all OPEC+ sales are done in USD. Approx 70% of all countries in the world hold USD in their reserves; including Russia and Iran . So S.A. isn't singular in maintaining or increasing the velocity and value of the USD. The new base, imho, is being built because there ain't nothing around it. We can see combatants from far off and stop them before they reach us. So if the GOI won't stop "protesters" ie enemy state proxies from targeting and damaging our embassy and citizens in Iraq we must defend ourselves. I appreciate the discussion with you.

Thanks Thug, a window of opportunity to let the people have a voice on who their leadership will be. Get Iran out of Iraq.  I hope we see an even bigger rise up of the people now.

I think what Jafar really meant to say was “After the blatant assumption of Iran that they would do the interviews and decide who the next Prime Minister of Iraq would be.....    😐

I have always wondered if Iran was also behind ISIS. Once ISIS hit the field, Iran was all over Iraq... Oh but wait! Iran had already moved their armies into Iraq. If I remember right, it was even before the Kurds had voted to separate from Baghdad. Maliki was in charge and all of the sudden Iraqis were extremely concerned over the build up of Iranian troops in Iraq. Even the Iraqi Parliament were demanding they leave Iraq immediately. Iraq was crapping in their britches over the obvious build up

Allawi's free: Soleimani informed me that Iran was working against my government

In Iraq News  , January 11, 2020

ayad-alawi.jpg?resize=620%2C349&ssl=1

The head of the Iraqiya coalition, former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, confirmed his resignation from the House of Representatives due to the latter's failure to meet the demands of the demonstrators, as a result of Iranian interference, and said that Qassem Soleimani had told him that Tehran was working against his government.

"A prime minister cannot come in Iraq without Iran's approval," he said in an interview with Al Hurra. Where is Iraqi sovereignty? ”

Allawi strongly denied rumors that the reason for his resignation is his intention to run for prime minister, stressing that he "will not seek a position like this without the approval of the people."

He added, "If Iran continues to have the upper hand in naming the prime minister, we will not be ready to accept such a position."

In his meeting with Al-Hurra, Allawi strongly denied that he was under any pressure to resign, and said, "We have been in conflict with Iran since 2010 ... I cannot be part of a council that cannot meet the demands of the protesters, or a false witness to history."

INTERVIEW LINK

Allawi said that the commander of the Iranian Quds Force Qassem Soleimani, who was killed by an American strike early this month near Baghdad Airport, informed him that Iran was working against his government.

And former Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi condemned the continued corruption and assassination of protesters in Iraq, without any accountability.
