Why do demonstrators in Iraq fear naming candidates for prime minister?

BAGHDAD - Mawazine News
A great controversy and division witnessed in the Iraqi protest arenas two days ago, especially the Tahrir Square in the capital, Baghdad, coinciding with attempts to impose two names for the post of prime minister, which was rejected by many and considered its imposition a reason to waste the efforts of the popular movement, which forced the authority to respond to some of its demands .
Iraqis live on the impact of large demonstrations in several cities for more than three months to demand political and economic reforms, fighting corruption and changing the election law.
Imposition of names
During the past few days, Tahrir Square has witnessed the names of both the former Commander of the Counter-Terrorism Service, Lieutenant-General retired Abdel-Ghani al-Asadi, and former Head of the Integrity Commission Judge Rahim al-Aqili, as candidates for prime minister, are said to be supporters of the Sadrist movement behind their nomination, in return protesters crossed And sit-ins in Tahrir Square for their refusal to offer any name for fear of being surrounded by the power parties, and they confirmed that they had previously determined the specifications of the next prime minister and the authorities should nominate the person to whom these specifications apply.
The page of Saleh Muhammad al-Iraqi, affiliated to the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, denied last Saturday the relationship of the mainstream audience with the statement issued by the nomination, noting at the same time that the country is slipping towards the abyss.
Controversial points
Those who agree with the candidacy statement see it as a way to avoid any upcoming danger to the country and the demonstrators due to the turbulent events in Iraq, and some of them went to broadcast the warnings of entering the country in a civil war.
As for those who refuse to nominate, they justified their position that the government itself would foil the tasks of any name presented to occupy the position in order to fail it on the people as their choice, and that the concerns that were raised about the fear for the safety of the demonstrators from any targeting to them may mean that the government is complacent if it does not provide support to protect them.
Campaigns for killing
and last Saturday Aqil al-Saray - the brother of one of the victims of the demonstrations - read a statement in Tahrir Square, in which he announced an agreement to submit the names of Rahim al-Aqili and Abdel-Ghani al-Asadi to the post of prime minister, but this statement was rejected by a later statement by the demonstrators.
In view of this, the activist in Tahrir Square, Zaidoun Imad, explained that the square is open to everyone and is not exclusive to anyone, stressing that the nomination of the candidates' names came after the approval of about 140 tents present in Tahrir Square.
He added that Iraq is going through a serious crisis and needs to name a prime minister to proceed with the amendments demanded by the protesters, especially after the parliament and the presidency failed to nominate a name acceptable to the people.
As for Haneen al-Mutawakkil, one of the participants in the liberation sit-in, she said, "Today, Iraq has become a battleground between two countries, and we protesters have become afraid of the campaigns of our free killing and being drawn into a civil war and creating a scenario similar to the destruction that took place in Syria."
For fear of losing the revolution, in
return, calls were made to refuse to nominate any name for prime minister from the protest arenas, and I attributed the civil activist that Al-Sumaidi had this for several reasons, the most important of which was that the square does not represent all the demonstrators in Iraq.
The second reason is that the protesters have specified the candidate’s specifications, and the power parties should search for those who meet these specifications, adding that it appears that the parties have been unable to come up with an independent personality distinguished by their loyalty to Iraq only and not partisan.
She expressed the fear that these parties would intend to fail any character nominated by the protesters.
In turn, the protester in Tahrir Square, Ahmed Manati, warned of the presence of "thieves of the revolution" trying to draw its map and thwarting it, considering that submitting any candidate would be a failure of the revolution because the government and the power parties would work to thwart it.
The Iraqi Communist Party, for its part, issued a statement disavowing its role in nominating Al-Asadi and Al-Aqili, stressing at the same time that he had no prior position on any candidate who met the conditions of the demonstrators.
A number of Tahrir protestors quickly issued a statement stating that "Blue Hat owners (in reference to the Sadrist movement) took control of the Turkish restaurant force by force and recorded a section in which they put my names as al-Asadi and Al-Aqili as candidates for the demonstrators, and we are innocent of this nomination."
The polls
and the media asked Bushra al-Qazwini, "Who represents the voice of the people now? Because there are hundreds of thousands of demonstrators in different Iraqi cities, so do these crowds have no opinion?"
"The opinion of the people is only known through the ballot box in a democratic and impartial manner. Otherwise, it is not acceptable."
While the demonstrator Nour Mohamed said, "There is no longer any benefit in prolonging the stay in Tahrir Square, the response of the government has weakened at a time when they were stalking them before, and today we are seeing loyalties dispersed, and there is a possibility of penetration of the arena by well-known parties and streams."
Media and politician Hamid Al-Kafaei said, "The protesters today do not fear the nomination, but they do not want to give a specific name, because any candidate will be subjected to pressure from bargaining by the parties, and they do not agree on a specific candidate at all. Their mission is not to oppose the acceptable candidate they have proposed for the presidency." Ministers and not to name it. "
He emphasized that the solution is for the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, to strive to put independent names for the test and to try to persuade the political forces to support the popular candidate. Ended 29 / h

  • yota691 changed the title to Iraqi protestors declare innocence from Parliament and give the government 4 days to choose a president

ARAB WORLD

02:05 07.01.2020

Follow us through
The Iraqi demonstrators in the main sit-in square that leads the great popular revolution since the beginning of last October and until now have given the president of the republic, Barham Salih, until next Friday to choose a president for the interim government, declaring innocence from parliament and considering its decisions as illegal.

The demonstrators, in a statement issued by them from Tahrir Square, received a reporter "Sputnik" in Iraq, on Monday evening, a million revolution in the provinces of the country , the largest and most severe of the demonstrations of the first of October last year, if no president is chosen for the interim government.

The protestors of Tahrir Square, in the heart of the Freedom Monument, in the middle of the capital, Baghdad, declared their position after a day in which the Iraqis shared their fears of American sanctions, and a siege that remembers the scenes of starvation in the nineties of the last century, saying:

“Our brothers, our dear sons, we have been from the first day that we went out into the protest arenas, convinced that this authority is represented by Parliament, and the government that emanates from it, an enemy power for the people and the country, works against its interests , and has never wavered in its destruction of non-national interests.”

The protesters of liberation considered that what happened yesterday in the parliament session are acts that are not related to the national interest, and that they are trying to plunge Iraq into an international conflict that has nothing to do with it, and send a negative image of it as a totally biased state in favor of an axis against another axis, which we reject reject We completely consider it an aggression against our homeland by a brutal authority that was the first to defend its interests and not the interests of other countries, and reject sub-affiliations in favor of belonging to the homeland. "

To confront the challenges they described as grave, the protesters demanded in their call to the people of the country, "to stand up and stand seriously against those who are trying to destroy the homeland by sticking it into" foolish "adventures, back to the dark ages we experienced, and we got out of their miracles in miracle, in response to non-national interests, regardless of who they are The intended destination, in or outside the authority. "

They stressed the speedy and without any delay, and no later than the tenth of January this year, by the President of the Republic choosing an interim Prime Minister, and as defined by his conditions from the square, working to prepare the appropriate ground for the holding of early and fair elections, and under international supervision for a period not exceeding six months.

Liberation lieutenants throughout the cold nights expressed their position on the parliament’s vote on the decision to remove foreign forces from Iraqi lands in an extraordinary session on Sunday, stressing that the current parliament lacks legitimacy, due to the massive boycott of the 2018 elections, and in order to complete its legitimacy, it must He does not take any measures and does not issue any decisions against the interests of Iraq and its oppressed people. "

The protesters noted that any procrastination or postponement in meeting these demands will make the revolutionaries of the sit-in squads on a date to repeat the revolution of the first of October last year, in a more severe way, in which the movement is paralyzed in all parts of Iraq, because the danger posed to the homeland is great, Destructive, with the care of a wretched hand you want to throw him into the abyss.

The liberation protestors concluded their statement by expressing, "We, as revolutionaries, have gone out and we expect death, and we will again offer ourselves to death if the price is the security of our homeland and our dear people."

The Iraqi parliament had voted in the presence of the head of the caretaker government, Adel Abdul Mahdi, in an extraordinary session called by the latter, yesterday, Sunday, January 5, on a decision of four paragraphs:

First, obliging the Iraqi government to cancel the request for assistance submitted to it by the international coalition to fight ISIS  (banned in Russia), in order to end military and war operations in Iraq, and achieve victory, and the Iraqi government must work to end the presence of any foreign forces in the territories and prevent them from Use Iraqi airspace for any reason.

Second, the Iraqi government represented by the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces must announce the preparation of foreign technicians and trainers that need them, their whereabouts, tasks and duration of their contracts, and thirdly, the government, represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, should go to the United Nations and the International Security Council, and file a complaint against the United States of America for its violations And grave breaches of the sovereignty and security of Iraq, and fourth and finally, that this decision should be implemented from the date of voting on it.

On Friday, January 3, the head of the caretaker government, Adel Abdul Mahdi, called on MPs to hold an emergency session and consider the attack, which he described as a violation of sovereignty.

Thousands of fighters gathered in the popular crowd and political leaders, in the presence of the head of the caretaker government, Adel Abdul-Mahdi, the bodies of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, Qasim Soleimani, and the victims who were killed after the American bombing, last Saturday, January 4, in the Karrada area, in the center of Baghdad.

The killing of Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis has sparked widespread political and popular anger, amid calls for the removal of Iraq from the conflict between the United States of America and Iran.

The deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Authority, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and the commander of the Iranian Quds Force, Qasim Soleimani, were killed on Friday, January 3, by an American raid on their convoy near Baghdad International Airport, which killed eight, including "important figures."

BAGHDAD, Iraq- Tahrir Square has quietened following the death of Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander Qasem Soleimani in a US airstrike last week.

The IRGC leader was killed alongside Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the Iraqi deputy leader of the Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces, also known as Hashd al-Shaabi in Arabic.

The tensions between Washington and Tehran have somehow made people forget about the appointment of a new prime minister.

However, Rudaw has learned that the appointment of a new prime minister could be a hot topic next week.

Mohammed Tofiq Allawi, former minister and lawmaker, is said to be one of the candidates for the position on the ticket of the Bina Coalition.

I think I have a good chance [to become the next prime minister]," he told Rudaw.

"We first have to make preparations to hold a snap election as per the new electoral law which will be a new start," he added.

However, those who remain in Tahrir Square continue calls for an independent candidate.

"Mohammed Tofiq Allawi has previously worked in many ministries, including the ministry of transport. People reject all those who have worked in the government since 2003," protester Qassim Sakeni said.

The deputy of the National Approach Bloc Hussein Al-Oqabi confirmed on Wednesday that the talk of some about the possibility of re-proposing the government of resigned Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi to stay until the next elections is not acceptable.

Al-Aqabi said in an interview with Alsumaria News, "The government of Adel Abdul-Mahdi was the cause of many problems and failures that the country suffered from throughout the period in which it assumed its functions and was not able to meet the requirements and needs of Iraq, and we believe that the talk or just a suggestion to grant it Another opportunity to continue working until the next elections is a dangerous adventure that will bring the country into greater chaos than what we are living today and cannot be accepted. "

He added, "Wisdom says that the first of us is to cancel the administrative orders and appointments to the positions and special grades issued by the current government because there are many notes about it instead of going to keep the government for a future period."

Al-Oqabi stressed, "This option, if it was formally presented, is rejected by us, and we warn against its very dangerous returns in deepening problems. We also hold those who embrace these propositions moral and legal responsibility before Iraq and its people for any other setbacks that affect the political process in the country."

Sadr calls for the formation of a government within 15 days and advises the demonstrators: Stop stubbornness

(Baghdad: Al Furat News) The leader of the Sadrist movement, Mr. Muqtada al-Sadr, called for the speedy formation of a "strong government within 15 days".

Al-Sadr said in a tweet to him on Twitter: "The two parties contacted the dismissed Prime Minister before the airstrike, so did he agree to implement it or not? God knows, but what concerns me now is:

First: This severe crisis "intensity" has occurred, especially after the speech of (US President Donald) Trump and the speech of the Islamic Republic.

Second: Accelerating the formation of a strong and strong government that restores its prestige and independence to Iraq in a period of no more than fifteen days and without political, parliamentary, sectarian, or ethnic polemics, and by presenting five candidates with integrity and experience so that a final candidate is chosen to form an interim government that oversees early elections and other matters We mentioned earlier, and it was enough of recklessness from some political blocs and enough stubbornness from the demonstrators and wasting Iraq, because these violations were not repeated in the future from any of the neighboring countries or from the great evil of America.

Third: The relentless pursuit to end the presence of the occupier, restrain its control and increasing influence, and its interference in Iraqi affairs, so our patience is almost implemented for the many foreign interventions that do not take into account the interests of Iraq. "

Fourth: I call on the Iraqi factions to be patient and patient, not to start military action and to silence the voice of militancy from some of the disciplines until all political, parliamentary and international methods are exhausted.

Fifth: I recommend closing all headquarters of the PMF so that it is not a target for global arrogance, especially if our decision becomes military resistance with the occupier in the event he refuses to go out and exhaust all political methods.

Good luck with that , Sadr ,it's not going to happen . You're not feeling the pulse of your own country .  The emotional dynamics of a country transcend  and are equal to the emotional dynamics of  what  we all have experienced as individuals . A starving abused child will act out or become completely submissive due to fear . Finally , the unknown becomes becomes more compelling than the known  ,like a Lemming falling off the cliff .  Does not it feel like any divorce you've ever been through ?.

It needs to be understood that there are different levels of moral development and apptidude . There are people who simply cannot sink the golden rule into themselves . They cannot think , "How would I feel if somebody did that to me ?"  It is a cognitive imparment that is hard to fix .  "They know not what they do " ,beneath contempt if you will .

al Sadr you have lost all credibility with these protesters, you showed your true colors by attending the funeral of Iran’s biggest terriorist.
The protestors have given the corrupt GOI until Friday to get a new PM, not 15 days, I hope they stick to their guns. You might want to keep a lookout over your shoulder as well, I hear their cleaning house over there....

So in a country of millions, the stagnant GOI can't find ONE, that's ONE honest, upstanding, ethical, independent, strong leader to name PM. I think it's a ploy for the GOI to continue to rake millions and billions from the currency auctions (and any other means) as long as they can. When the well is empty, they will leave the country for their mansions and the people begging in the streets again. I hope the citizen protesters hold to their 5 days, and the people come out in the millions to continue their quest.

Mujahid al-Ta’i, an analyst and researcher on Iraqi affairs, confirmed on Thursday that a million million Friday is a new test for Iraqis after the assassination of the commander of the Iranian Quds Force, Qassem Al-Suleimani.

Al-Taei told Al-Akhbariya that "tomorrow, a new wave of demonstrations begins in Millionaire on Friday, after trying to circumvent the demonstrations by dragging Iraq into an absurd war zone by proxy in the manner of the counter-revolution."

He added that "tomorrow, is a test for the post-Soleimani assassination, will the crime against young people continue, or was his death a door to open the way for non-violent solutions."

Baghdad - news

Today, Thursday, legal expert Ali Al-Tamimi confirmed that the term of Adel Abdul Mahdi’s caretaker government ends after the middle of this month, indicating that the President of the Republic takes over the position after him for a period of 15 days until an alternative nomination.

Al-Tamimi told Al-Akhbariya: “The constitutional periods specified in the Iraqi constitution for cases of government formation, assignment, and the end of business conduct indicate that the thirty days specified for the caretaker government, which are stipulated in Article 61, paragraph eight, end on the 16th of this month.”

He added: "In the event Barham Saleh fails to nominate an alternative to Adel Abdul Mahdi, the administration of the country is transferred to him for a period of 15 days as prime minister, and the ministries are run by their agents until a candidate is found to occupy the position of prime minister and his cabinet is his cabinet."

Al-Tamimi continued: “If the President of the Republic does not succeed during his tenure as prime minister for the specified period of candidacy of a person, then he will continue to manage the position due to the absence of a constitutional article dealing with the matter.” Noting that there are constitutional articles lacking legislation and articles that need clarification. Reviewing the Federal Court to place treatments for it.
