Reducing the number of representatives to 1/3 the current number may be a good idea.....provided it's the 1/3 that usually shows up.

What a group of fools. Their sole focus has been on amending the Electoral Commission Act. I don't remember seeing this on the citizen protester list of 'needed to survive' issues. Integrity Commission just stated the recovery of nearly 12 Billion USD. That would build a nice power plant, or three. And water treatment plants. And infrastructure that creates jobs. Chances are it filtered into GOI member bank accounts. So inept they can't get out of their own way.

King Bean, I'm glad to see this actually, if they didn't fix this they would just be right back in the same boat after the next elections. The Iraq government setup was a breading ground for corruption to guide bad things into place, groups were bribing there way into power even Iran could just offer bribes to smaller groups to form the largest block and buy there way into power every year.

Next get ride of the supreme judges that are loyal to Iran so you can pass some of the tougher laws that will help Iraq.

We all know by now that even with the right people in place trying to do the right thing that Iran will not just pack up and leave so be prepared for another Isis like war inside of Iraq to remove them. I read just yesterday a report that Iran had smuggled ballistic missiles into Iraq as a deterrent for any attacks against them.

I would love to see the protesters burn down the house of parliament along with the cafeteria.
Next demand all the resignations of these thieves.
Then they need NATO, the European Union an USA to come in a set a new government just like they did when they ousted Sadame.
At present their still kicking the can an doing nothing to help the protesters. Iran is still in control an until they are all forced out of the government nothing will change. Burn baby burn....

Deputies confirm the vote on the election law this week

Baghdad / Al-Sabah

Members of the House of Representatives reaffirmed the political blocs ’intention to complete the draft election law and vote on it this week, explaining that the bill took on the demands of the protesters and would give independent personalities a distinct presence in the next parliament, while they saw that the Electoral Commission’s law, which is approved by the legislature, terminates the power Political parties completely on the commission.
Yesterday, Saturday, the deputy from the Al-Fateh Alliance, Siham Al-Moussawi, said in a press statement: "The draft elections law for the parliament presented to the political blocs has satiated a discussion by including the demands of the demonstrators that do not contradict the constitution," noting that "most of the political blocs are intent on achieving it As soon as".
Moussawi added that "the House of Representatives will start this week to discuss the draft law," stressing that "the completion of the bill and voting on it will take place this week, as it is an important part of calm the street, as we felt when the election commission law was approved, which was welcomed by the Iraqi public."
In the same context, MP Abbas Yaber Al-Atafi pointed out that "most of the contentious paragraphs in the election law, which it is hoped to present to the vote during the next session, have been resolved and only some paragraphs remain." Al-Atafi added that "the legal committee with the Presidency and the heads of the blocs and committees is working on maturing the remaining paragraphs before submitting it to a vote."
However, the representative of the al-Hikma stream Ali al-Aboudi said, in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency, "Awa", that "the electoral law that was read last week contains many technical gaps."
Al-Aboudi suggested that "it is not possible to pass it next week," explaining that "the technical problems are summarized in the districts, districts, women's quota, population, and determining the electoral districts."
In turn, the deputy of the Alliance of Saeron Badr Al-Ziyadi went on to say that "the continuous postponement of the census will negatively affect the real results of the elections, especially in the southern provinces," noting that "the population in Basra Governorate exceeds four million people."
Al-Ziyadi indicated that "conducting the census raises the concerns of some, especially in the disputed areas," noting that "speeding up the census before setting the date for early elections will contribute to fair and fair elections."
In addition, the head of the Rafidain Parliamentary Bloc, Yonadam Kanna, enumerated the Electoral Commission Law, which is approved by the House of Representatives, that it completely ends the authority of political parties over the commission.
Kanna added, "The law requires the appointment of a first judge from each appeal, with five judges in each governorate and 3 members of the State Council chosen to supervise the election process."
Kanna explained that "the requirement of the first judge is in order to ensure that the judge does not belong to any party and his long service in the administration of the judiciary without bias to any party." Parties. "

Legislators: We are working to pass laws that fulfill the legitimate demands of the demonstrators

Baghdad / Muhannad Abdul-Wahab

Members of the House of Representatives reported that the most important laws that need to be legislated at the current stage and that meet the demands of demonstrators is the election law and laws that fight corruption and health insurance, in addition to agreeing on contentious laws such as oil and gas.
The deputy of the Al-Hikma stream, Asaad Al-Murshidi, said that one of the most important laws on which voting is an important and serious step to meet the demands of the demonstrators after the Independent High Electoral Commission Law is the Law of the Council of Representatives and the Council for Reconstruction of Iraq.

Al-Murshidi added to “Al-Sabah” that the steps to approve the laws come within an important action plan for the council in voting on important laws that fulfill the people's demands, indicating that the sequence of passing the laws comes within the work to meet the demands for that. It affects the lives of citizens, including the health insurance law.

Al-Morshedy pointed out that when the religious authority confirmed the election law and the commission, it was aiming to draw a road map for early elections, and in the event that the two laws were completed, the floor would be available to hold these elections, which would lead to a new government.
Whereas, the representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Bashar Al-Kiki, indicated that the Parliament’s election law and laws that reduce corruption and serve citizens and create jobs equally will build a suitable platform for restoring confidence between
Citizens and their representatives.
The Kiki added, in an interview with {Al-Sabah », that one of the most important laws that constitute an important stage, especially in these situations that the country is going through is the Federal Budget Law, explaining that one of the parliament’s priorities is now to pass the Parliament’s election law and the budget law.
Al-Kiki stressed that the ambition of the parliament is to pass laws that are in the interest of the people and achieve social justice in an equitable and fair manner, but the country’s conditions and the nature of the political process did not allow the parliament to operate as planned, pointing out that the priority of its bloc is the approval of the oil and gas law.
Al-Kiki continued that about 80 percent of the oil and gas law had been agreed upon and was ready to vote on it, noting that another important law is the Federal Service Council Law that guarantees the rights of regions and governorates.
While the MP, of the Alliance of Sa'oon Amjad Al-Oqabi, believes that the demands of the demonstrators charted a way for the House of Representatives to pass laws and correct the path of the political process, the election law that was enacted was tight and satisfactory to all parts of the Iraqi people in addition to the laws that tighten spoilers and prevent corruption.
Al-Oqabi said to “Al-Sabah”: Some of the bills are pending from the previous electoral sessions until now, and we will proceed to work on returning them to the circle of study and discussions, and we look at the most important points of disagreement and reformulate them according to the new data that the demonstrators demand, indicating that the most important pending law is the oil law Gas and we are waiting for the final version of the government to reach the House of Representatives for the purpose of studying it
And vote on it.
Al-Aqabi added that the current stage also requires amending the Prisoners ’Institution Law (and from where did you get this?), In addition to many important laws that are in the interest of the Iraqi people.
