Legal expert confirms: What happened to the activists is "kidnappings" and not arrest

Baghdad / ... Legal expert Ali al-Tamimi, said Thursday, that the absence of activists over the past few days were kidnappings and not legal arrests.

Al-Tamimi told "Eye of Iraq News," that "there was no kidnapping, this is a non-governmental and the law says that the arrest or arrest only by a decision of the investigating judge in the sense that the body that takes activists and interrogated with them is a non-governmental", noting that " The state should investigate to find out these actors, especially in cooperation with the released activists who were kidnapped to find out who is kidnapped and called the "deep state" and here is a disaster to be a state within the state.

"This is not only a kidnapping, it is a compound kidnapping because that body is not a state, nor is it a gang, since the gangs demand a ransom in return for release," he said.

It is noteworthy that many activists in the demonstrations and in various governorates have been kidnapped during the past period and by unknown armed parties, while some of them who talked about being held by an unknown security agency for interrogation on various charges, most notably receiving support from abroad, while not Official authorities never comment on these incidents. Finished 2

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Iraqi security forces killed at least seven protesters and injured dozens more during ongoing demonstrations in the capital of Baghdad, according to media reports.

Security and medical sources told Reuters that riot police had repeated their previous crackdown tactics of shooting live rounds and tear gas canisters directly at protesters, killing four and wounding 78, some of whom had been struck by rubber bullets.

Incidents are now concentrated primarily near two bridges in the capital that lead to entrances of the heavily fortified Green Zone, where many government offices and foreign missions are located.

According to Reuters, protesters in Baghdad continue to control parts of three bridges that have been a continued site of standoffs between the two sides, with many demonstrators holed up in a skeletal, multi-story building just across from one of them.

Since they began in early October, widespread national protests and the security forces' harsh response have resulted in the deaths of at least 300, while some 12,000 have been injured, according to Iraq’s High Commission for Human Rights.

On Monday, security sources said that crowds in southern Iraq had blocked the key shipping port of Umm Qasr for the second time while those in Baghdad had closed the Central Bank of Iraq.

They decry a lack of employment opportunities, the dismal state of public services, and widespread government corruption.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Protestors in southern Iraq have blocked the key Umm Qasr port for the second time while demonstrators in Baghdad closed the Central Bank, security officials said on Monday.

An official in Iraq’s southern Basra province told the Associated Press that protestors had “burned tires” to block roads leading to the Umm Qasr port.

Umm Qasr receives imports of grain, vegetable oils, and sugar shipments and is one of the most significant ports in Iraq.

After it was blocked in late October, the port was reopened earlier this month as operations resumed.

Demonstrators in Iraq are calling for radical change in Iraq’s political system, which they say fails to address their needs, but, rather, serves the interests of a small governing elite.

The protests over the past month reflect widespread dissatisfaction with the economy, including high levels of unemployment, the dismal state of public services, and widespread government corruption.

Elsewhere, on Monday, staff were forced to evacuate the Central Bank in Baghdad, located on Rasheed Street, as waves of protestors reached the area, the Associated Press reported.

Since they began in early October, widespread protests in Iraq have resulted in the deaths of at least 300, while some 12,000 have been injured, according to Iraq’s High Commission for Human Rights.

Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi recently said the nationwide protests had pressured political groups to bring about reforms but repeated a call for an end to demonstrations, complaining that the riots are affecting the country’s economy.

Vision, huh. Well, along with all the other spineless & meaningless verbal diarrhea slogans being trotted out why not this too.

Let them be lauded and praised for their intentions for they are grand & full of hope. Crooked Shameless Self Serving Bureaucrats with no intentions of doing right by their citizens.

At some point here I’d half expect the Military to state a coup while Parliament is in session, arrest the lot, install a caretaker government & rollout the reforms along with pushing the 2020 Budget out there.

Confiscate all those $$$$ Billions then throw the corrupt out into the streets and let the demonstrators have them. Of course that won’t happen:  at the very least it should be life in a quarry pounding out little rocks from big rocks.

Just having a “ Vision “ if my own.

"Made in Iraq" a new campaign for demonstrators

"Made in Iraq" a new campaign for demonstrators

Baghdad - Ahmed al-Naimi

November 21, 2019

The Iraqi street is no longer merely  protesting against the ruling authority and raising demands, as it tends to offer solutions and alternatives in order to emerge from the country's  crises , most recently the launching of a new campaign of demonstrations to encourage the local producer.

Less than three weeks after the protesters launched a campaign of boycott  of Iranian goods in Iraq, which received a wide response in the street, activists and media launched a new campaign to support the national product with several slogans, most notably "Made in Iraq."
The launch of the new campaign from Tahrir Square in central Baghdad on the morning of yesterday, to expand to the squares and other sit-ins in the south of the country on Thursday, according to Iraqi activists.

Ali Wahhab al-Athari, a member of the campaign's coordinating committee, told Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed that it was not a buying campaign but encouraged investors to reopen their factories and start production again.

Previously, the Iraqi government announced reform packages during the past period that included granting loans to the owners of the factories and factories stopped to operate them again, in addition to financial allocations in the budget next year to restore life to thousands of factories and factories stopped the government, but none of the decisions have not touched the street so far. Economist Abdul Sami al-Rawi said that the campaign made in Iraq may not have much impact, even if the street responds to it because Iraqi production is still modest, and the importer cannot be dispensed with.

However, he continued to talk to the "new Arab", saying: Nevertheless remains a condemnation paper against the Iraqi government and political forces to pressure them to implement the promises, as it is a catalyst for the owners of factories and companies that are currently or stopped to activate them.

For his part, an economic adviser in the Secretariat General of the Council of Ministers, Mohammed al-Kazemi, to "the new Arab", the campaign is welcome, pointing out that "the government is determined to restore life to factories and factories, and within the broad plan being drawn up to begin implementation early next year Jaber Al-Khazraji, a member of the Iraqi Industrialists Union, believes that the recent popular campaigns to support the Iraqi product may be a real beginning to restore Iraqi self-confidence. Today he is in an exhibition A comparison between him and the importer. "

“Before 2003, there were more than 170,000 government and private factories, tens of thousands of which were destroyed during the war and the post-occupation period. The absence of government support and the difficulty of marketing the product for the presence of foreign alternatives. "

The workers, for their part, expressed their happiness with the campaign, saying it would restore their rights to their livelihoods, which they lost due to the cessation of Iraqi factories since 2003.
"I was a worker in one of the metal cans of the dyes," said Radhi Sabr, 47. "But the factory stopped years ago as a result of foreign products invading local markets. I lost my job with thousands of workers, but now we have hope."
During the campaign, activists held up banners reading "Made in Iraq", "Encourage Mo Pass Intersection" and "Together to support Iraqi Products," and put in front of them a range of local products such as dairy and food of Iraqi origin.

This comes at a time when Iraqi markets witnessed an unprecedented accumulation of Iranian goods, because of the lack of appetite for citizens to buy them, after a wide boycott campaign launched in the last period, with an increasing demand to buy Iraqi products.

Sistani calls for a new electoral law

In the meantime, Sistani stressed in his Friday sermon his support for the demonstrators, saying that none of their demands have been met so far and that electoral reforms should be a priority.

He called for a new election law that would restore public confidence in the system and give voters the opportunity to replace current political leaders with "new faces."

He added: "A new law must be adopted for a new electoral commission that is neutral and credible without external interference because of the risks of turning the country into a arena for settling accounts, the biggest loser is the people."

He continued: "If they have the power to think that they can evade the benefits of real reform by procrastination and procrastination, they are delusional, since the post-protests will not be the same as before, in any case, be aware of this."

He added that "citizens did not go out to the demonstrations calling for reform in this unprecedented form and did not continue on it with all the price and sacrifices demanded only because they found no other way out of corruption and destruction."

Sistani has announced his support for a road map proposed by the United Nations Mission in Iraq to meet the demands of the demonstrators, but expressed concern about the lack of seriousness of political parties on the implementation of the proposed reforms.

At least 320 people have been killed and thousands injured since protests began on Oct. 1 against corruption, job shortages and poor basic services despite the country's oil wealth.
