Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps - Quds Force, is currently present in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, Al Arabiya sources confirmed.

His visit on Saturday comes as Iraq’s cabinet approved Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi’s resignation, according to a statement from his office, but parliament has yet to withdraw its support for the prime minister at a session on Sunday, making it official.

Soleimani was last in Baghdad earlier this month when sources said he met with commanders of the Popular Mobilization Unit militias and instructed them to support Abdul Mahdi during a secret meeting.

At the time, an Iranian security official confirmed Soleimani was present at a meeting in Baghdad and that he was there to “advise.”

The current unrest, which has killed more than 400 people, mostly demonstrators, amounts to the biggest crisis confronting Iraq since ISIS seized vast swathes of Iraqi and Syrian territory in 2014.

«Raise the degree of readiness to keep abreast of the developments of the situation»

Iraqi events .. and vigilance Kuwaiti

A A Ghannam Ghannam -  With fears of worsening political and security conditions in Iraq and the possibility of a civil war, politicians and academics warned in statements to Al-Qabas of the repercussions of that situation on Kuwait, as a neighbor of Iraq, and bound by borders and relations extended historically and geographically. Al-Qabas learned that the events in Iraq are of great interest locally, around the clock, according to the evolution of reality on the ground there, with an emphasis on full vigilance. While the former Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Ambassador Abdullah Bishara, considered that raising Kuwait degrees of caution has become a priority, with increased security vigilance, called professor of sociology at Kuwait University d. Mohammed al-Rumaihi, to raise the security readiness to the highest degree, especially on the border, with the involvement of the Gulf Cooperation Council in the steps taken, and also inform the Iraqi government that this is by hedging with the preparation of shelters, ambulance and supply of necessity. In turn, said political science professor d. Ayed Al Manna, The tension in Iraq has reached our borders, which means that the situation is not reassuring. Al-Manna stressed that Kuwait, while watching the situation with great caution, should have security preparations to fully secure the border.

He added, `` The initiative included the formation of a new government on 15/15/2019, with a temporary program with time limits chaired by an independent figure, who will ensure the representation of the demonstrators by appointing an 'Assistant Prime Minister for demonstrations' to ensure the fulfillment of the demands and involve the people in managing the interim phase. ".

Thursday 's protests spread to Anbar, which accounts for a third of the country, in the west and Nineveh in the north, to support major demonstrations in the center and south.

Hundreds of demonstrators in Fallujah and Hit district, the main city of Anbar province in western Iraq, staged a sit- in in support of the ongoing demonstrations in the capital, and the central and southern provinces of the country, and condemned the mass killings of demonstrators in Dhi Qar, south of Baghdad.

Twenty protesters were killed and dozens were wounded by live bullets near a police directorate in the southern province of Dhi Qar.

Since the beginning of October, there have been mass protests demanding better living conditions, fighting corruption, dismissing the government, dissolving parliament, holding early elections, and killing at least 350 people since the start of the largest wave of protests in the country since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003.

BAGHDAD - Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi has agreed to sacrifice himself to save the political system based on quotas and corruption. He said on Saturday that his resignation is important to dismantle the crisis and calm the situation, calling on parliament to choose a quick alternative.

Parliament is scheduled to hold a special session on Sunday to consider the resignation of the prime minister and discuss the alternative.

"There is no doubt that the esteemed Council, with its members and blocs, will be keen to find the appropriate alternative as soon as possible, because the country under its current circumstances does not have a daily government," Mahdi said in a speech during the cabinet session. New ministers and new government to assume responsibilities in accordance with the constitutional and legal contexts in force.

However, the various political steps, especially the resignation of Abdul Mahdi and the Director of his office Abu Jihad al-Hashemi, and the Secretary-General of the Council, Hamid al-Ghazi, did not prevent the continuation of the protests, which maintained the same pace without being concerned with the parliamentary session and the decisions and positions that may be issued.

Iraqi demonstrators continued their protests in Baghdad and southern areas on Saturday, considering the resignation of the prime minister's planned unconvincing and insisting on "the removal of all symbols of corruption."

Protesters set tires aboard three bridges running along the Euphrates River as hundreds gathered in the main protest square in the city center.

Renewed demonstrations in Nasiriyah despite the bloody crackdown by the security forces, which killed more than 40 demonstrators in the past two days in the city.

Iraqi forces and pro-Iranian militias committed a massacre in the city after demonstrators stormed the Iranian consulate and burned it in Najaf, demanding that Iran leave Iraq and stop its domination of the country.

While Najaf was relatively quiet on Saturday morning, Karbala, the second most important holy city for Shi'ites, witnessed protests, including gas bombs. In Diwaniya, thousands took to the streets early to demand the "overthrow of the regime."

The current popular movement is the largest in Iraq in decades and the bloodiest, with more than 420 people killed and 15,000 wounded in Baghdad and the southern provinces.

The bloody violence prompted Shiite cleric Ali al-Sistani on Friday to call on parliament to seek a no-confidence vote from the government of Adel Abdul-Mahdi, who pre-empted his move to announce his resignation to parliament without setting a specific date.

Thousands of Iraqis in the Sunni-dominated northern and western provinces staged protests in support of the protests in the mainly Shi'ite southern provinces.

Thousands of people gathered in the provinces of Anbar, Salah al-Din, Nineveh and Diyala until late Friday night, declaring their support for the protests in the center and south of the country and denouncing the suppression of the security forces demonstrations.

It appears that the end is near for the PM, as all international reports confirm he is due to resign from his post due to his alignment with top IRANIAN government officials .  Could perhaps former PM MALIKI once again may be a puppet master behind the IRAQI green curtain?

If intel is correct....then many may be just a harmony of watchers, just as all of IRAQ and it’s allies.

Parliament approves Iraqi prime minister's resignation

2 MIN READ

  •

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq’s parliament voted on Sunday to accept the resignation of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, following weeks of violent anti-government protests that have rocked the country.

Abdul Mahdi’s decision to quit on Friday came after a call by Iraq’s top Shi’ite Muslim cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani for parliament to consider withdrawing its support for Abdul Mahdi’s government to stem the violence.

“The Iraqi parliament will ask the president of state to nominate a new prime minister,” a statement from parliament’s media office said.

Lawmakers said Abdul Mahdi’s government, including the prime minister himself, would stay on in a caretaker capacity following Sunday’s vote until a new government was chosen.

Under the constitution, President Barham Salih is expected to ask the largest bloc in parliament to nominate a new prime minister to form a government, a move expected to trigger weeks of political wrangling.

Iraqi forces have killed nearly 400 mostly young, unarmed demonstrators since mass anti-government protests broke out on Oct. 1. More than a dozen members of the security forces have also died in clashes.

Abdul Mahdi’s resignation, though welcomed by protesters, is not expected to end the demonstrations, which have called for an overhaul of a political system accused of being corrupt and keeping most of the population in poverty, without opportunity.

Demonstrations are continuing in Baghdad and other southern regions and security forces killed one protester and wounded nine others near a key bridge in the capital on Sunday, police and a medical source said.

The unrest poses the biggest challenge for Iraq since Islamic State insurgents seized swathes of Iraqi and Syrian territory in 2014.

It pits mostly young, disaffected Shi’ite protesters against a Shi’ite-dominated government backed by Iran and accused of squandering Iraq’s oil wealth while infrastructure and living standards deteriorate.

Judiciary issues arrest warrant for military commander after the "massacre of Nasiriyah"

An arrest warrant issued against a senior leader after the "massacre of Nasiriyah"
Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi has assigned Lieutenant General Jamil al-Shammari to restore security in Nasiriyah

IRBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Iraqi judicial authorities on Sunday issued an arrest warrant for a senior military commander accused of ordering the shooting of demonstrators in Nasiriyah.

Some 30 protesters were killed in Nasiriyah in a single day a few days earlier in the latest episode of violence in anti-government protests.

He assigned Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi Lieutenant General Jamil al-Shammari responsible for restoring security in Nasiriyah, but the situation erupted after his inauguration.

Protesters accused al-Shammari of responsibility for issuing fire orders, while his house was reportedly burned by angry protesters in the city of Diwaniya.

The Iraqi judiciary said in a statement that "the investigative body in the presidency of the Court of Appeal of Dhi Qar issued a warrant of arrest and travel ban against Lieutenant General Jamil al-Shammari for the crime of issuing orders that caused the killing of demonstrators in the province."

According to media sources, al-Shammari's arrest warrant included the seizure of his movable and immovable property.

Local media reported that al-Shammari left the country before issuing an arrest warrant, after being summoned by Abdul Mahdi to discuss the causes of deaths among the demonstrators.

Iraqi Protesters Call for Dismissal of President after PM’s Resignation: MP

ERBIL — Following Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi’s announcement of his resignation, Iraqi protesters are now pushing for the resignation or dismissal of the country’s president, Barham Salih, said a lawmaker.

Abdul Mahdi said on Friday that he was resigning in hopes of resolving the current crisis in the country by establishing a new government under a different leadership.

MP Mohammed Baldawi said on Sunday that the parliamentary factions have now begun negotiations to find a solution to the unrest by responding to protesters’ demands.

He explained that they are expecting president’s dismissal to follow parliament’s approval on PM’s resignation. “Then the parliament could be dissolved for a snap election,” he added.

However, this could further complicate the political situation in Iraq with many foreign actors playing on the ground, and it could create many legal, security, and administrative vacuums if happened.

Former Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi
KUWAIT CITY (AFP) - Former Iraqi prime minister Haider al-Abadi refused on Sunday to run for office after Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi resigned.
Abadi said in a tweet on the social networking site (Twitter) today that he will not be a party to choose a candidate for prime minister at this stage, calling for the candidate to be independent and win the confidence of the people.
"He will continue to defend the homeland from the position of national responsibility, not through competition or through the positions he has rejected since last year," he said.
Abadi, who heads the parliamentary bloc of victory, comes hours after Sadr's parliamentary bloc, backed by Moqtada al-Sadr, also renounced what she described as her right to present a new candidate for prime minister as the largest bloc.
The Iraqi parliament approved today the transformation of Abdul Mahdi's government into a caretaker government, where President Barham Saleh is expected to nominate a candidate from the largest parliamentary bloc.

Iraq .. After the resignation of Abdul Mahdi

Last Updated: Monday 5 April 1441 - December 02 2019 KSA 23:41 - GMT 20:41
Tark Published: Monday 5 April 1441 - December 02 2019 KSA 23:40 - GMT 20:40

The victorious opponents received the news of the resignation of Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi with a kind of positivity and lit lanterns of joy for this Islamic move as they bid farewell to a new group of convoys of their righteous martyrs.

But they have not left their steady strategic position that this resignation, if realized, should be a first step in the roadmap drawn by the men of the October uprising, who opened the blood-soaked path to a comprehensive change that would save Iraq from its current dark state. Although the corrupt parties responsible for the Iraqi bloodbath are still putting this uprising and popular revolt within the framework of a childish movement that can satisfy its owners with some sweets, ignoring that these young people represent a new era happening in Iraq.

The mechanisms of Abdul Mahdi's resignation were strictly drawn to the fact that the parties did not escape power from two sides. The first aspect relates to Adel Abdul Mahdi himself, who responded an hour later to the call of his Shiite authority confirming his minor doctrine, while the uprisers provided more than 400 martyrs and more than fifteen thousand wounded, did not comply with their demands to resign in an explicit expression of his patriotism, as he is trying to avoid the possibility of being subjected to possible legal accountability He claimed responsibility for killing the martyrs with the weapons of his security forces or other armed forces in the street.

The protagonists were clear in demanding a peaceful transfer of power under the current constitution, which is now being interpreted as a mechanism. Should the resignation go to the president of the republic or to the parliament? The revolutionaries say the correct mechanism is for the president to promote the resignation of the prime minister, dissolve parliament, and establish an interim government calling for early elections under UN supervision. Such steps will only lead to chaos if the parties and military forces loyal to Tehran want them.

The ruling parties will not surrender through the resignation of the prime minister, who came to rule by an Iranian tutelage and an understanding between the two largest blocs in parliament, and the issue of the resignation of Abdul Mahdi may enter into the door of rivalries within the Shiite parties and between them and the Sunni and Kurdish blocs and parties to distract the Iraqi street from the course of the uprising.

There is a long way to go in the losing battle of these parties against the uprising. They are maneuvering in this step for fear that it will serve as a prelude to future collapses. Surrender to the steps of the Intifada project in change.

There is a willingness on the part of the parties and their militias to continue the bloodbath in more criminal ways. The Popular Mobilization factions “retribution and uprooting bastards” have burned their consulate in Najaf.

The owners of the sectarian sultan of Iran do not want to absorb the new political equation created by the October uprising despite the list of precious martyrs on their people and people, an equation that the political process of the sixteen years spent by looting and tyranny is over. Current evidence from the Arab world confirms this. The story of democracy, which can no longer withstand the rebels, is not hampered. Hitler has already won the German election but has become the biggest killer of modern times. After all this killing and destruction, Adel Abdul Mahdi does not need a US military invasion, as happened with Saddam Hussein and then Iran kidnapped Iraq in its favor.

Today, the sorting is clear between sectarian forces and parties, most of which have unjustified links with Tehran, and which should have sectarian loyalty to the authority of Iraq, and a rising youth movement that has the ability to manage peaceful change in Iraq, which is the most promising bloc. The forces of corruption and crime that are trying to desperate to survive, and they seek during the current critical period to mix the cards and escalate the conspiracy theory in the field by provoking security and media storms known by the young uprising owners and their masters, but this dissipated especially in the recent tribes of the South, incubator Young authentic, real support for their uprising and revealed part of those ploys.

The new revolutionary indicator in the diary of the uprising is that the people of the Sunni Arab provinces will not continue to remain silent for fear of being labeled IS or Baathist. They are not subject to their abhorrent laws that have been planted and promoted strife and civil strife, and they proclaim their upscale slogan “We want a homeland” that transcends sub-identities.

No one wants to be Prime Minister of Iraq? 😂😭😉:bagofmoney:Even with money to steal?....lmao

Civil war General William Tecumseh Sherman resisted Republican pressure to run for president. His statement was: If drafted, I will not run. If nominated, I will not accept. If elected, I will not serve.

Dipping into history, there was President Johnson announcing he would not run for a second term - "I will not seek, I will not accept." And my favorite, Congressman Mo Udall of Arizon: "If nominated, I will run to Mexico. If elected, I will fight extradition."
