She continued, that «the legislation referred to in the decisions are controversial topics, and can not be resolved so quickly only if the political forces want to exploit the situation and impose their vision in haste».
She pointed out that «the decisions did not refer to any of the crises of the liberated areas such as the abducted, forcibly disappeared, and the return of the displaced to their areas, and transitional laws such as accountability and justice used to abuse opponents and opponents and others»
She pointed out that «the Salvation Front and Development has already put forward a map of a solution that will deal with the crisis in order to open a large room for dismantling in favor of a national renaissance, but the decisions unfortunately ignored that did not offer a convincing alternative».
The Front said that «the Salvation and Development Front calls for the preservation of the state system and not on the status of personalities and political parties, and wants a successful system in the transfer of power and the provision of personal satisfaction of the people, and the Front believes that the political forces if they prevent the circulation requested by the people and expressed by demonstrations, the people will topple The regime is incapable of producing new political classes, and therein lies the greatest danger: Iraq is going to chaos, God forbid. ”

There is no solution for the government and parliament
Commenting on the meeting of political leaders, MP Hoshyar Abdullah said in a statement that «the political forces that met in the house of Ammar al-Hakim did not and will not provide any real solutions or reforms that meet the demands of the street, which rose up against it more than a month and a half ago in Baghdad and the southern provinces He pointed out that «according to their agreement reached there is no solution for the government and parliament, and there is no date for early elections, and in the final outcome of their meeting is useless and did not bring new».
He added that «most of the meeting last night of the strong Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish are key actors in the political process after 2003, and the street now rising up against them, he wondered,“ Is it reasonable that they are the ones providing solutions ?! Will they become the opponent and the arbiter? Originally, can they offer a successful model other than the previous failed model, and if they can, why not yet? ''
Abdullah expressed hope that "the rising street will not listen to all these tried and powerful forces that have not and will not want to reform the country," adding that "these parties are certain that there will be no place in the management of the country in the case of real reforms, and therefore try to abort This uprising, which has become worrying and threatening its presence in power ».

Iraq's protesters are stepping up pressure to block oil exports

Iraq's protesters are stepping up pressure to block oil exports

Baghdad - Aktham Saifuddin

November 20, 2019

The cities of  Basra, Maysan and Dhi Qar, in southern Iraq , on Tuesday, the escalation of the first of its kind after the success of the  protesters in the closure of a number of main roads towards a floating oil port on the waters of the Arabian Gulf, and two fields and a complex to manage oil operations belonging to the Iraqi Oil Ministry, which caused a stumbling Exports through Khor al-Zubair port, west of Basra, lasted several hours before the reopening of roads.

An Iraqi oil official in Baghdad told Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed that the demonstrations in Basra extended to the fields of Barjasiya and Rumaila, two of the largest oil fields in the country, where demonstrators blocked roads leading to the two fields and prevented engineers and workers from going to them. Truck routes and crude oil tankers destined for floating export ports were also cut, the official said, declining to be named.

The Dhi Qar oil company was besieged and its doors closed and the company's employees were prevented from entering it, which led to the disruption of the work of the company, which includes administrative offices and logistic operations rooms to produce and export oil from the province's fields.
The same was the case in Maysan, where four roads to the east and west fields of the province, which also contain gas platforms and where there are foreign companies working in the exploration and development of oil fields in the province, were cut.

According to official reports, Maysan fields produce about 700 thousand barrels of total Iraqi production through several fields, most notably Bazargan, Halfaya, Fakka and Qal'at Salih. And there are US and British companies, while producing fields Dhi Qar about 200 thousand barrels per day from several fields, most notably Sabah and Nasiriyah. Iraq depends mainly on oil revenues. According to official statistics, oil sales revenue on a monthly basis in August last year was $ 6.34 billion, compared to $ 6.69 billion in July, according to data from the Ministry of Oil.

The oil official told the "New Arab", that the demonstrators carried banners and slogans demanding their employment instead of foreign workers in the fields and oil companies, considering that they are the first jobs of them. He explained that the Iraqi government commissioned a military force to secure the entrances, exits and perimeter of the oil sites and prevent affected by any operations cut or sabotage, pointing out that the faltering export continued for a short time and things returned to normal after that.

According to official and parliamentary reports that more than 100,000 foreign workers work in the oil fields in Basra alone, and demonstrators say it is job opportunities they are first. In Basra and Baghdad, several oil colleges and institutes graduate thousands of people each year with diplomas and bachelor's degrees, but they do not find suitable jobs in Iraqi oil companies.

Demonstrators accuse the government of former Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki of being involved in the recruitment of foreign oil companies without any conditions related to employment, like the employment law, which is subject to other foreign companies in other sectors.

Yesterday, Basra Governor Asaad al-Eidani said in remarks to local Iraqi media that the tents were lifted from the front gate of Majnoon field permanently after negotiations with the demonstrators. Dozens of people have staged a sit-in in front of Majnoon oil field in Basra, demanding job opportunities and treatment of cancer patients, and other demands related to improving the reality of services. But witnesses confirmed to the "new Arab", that the protesters returned after hours to erect new tents sit in reference to their retreat from the agreement with the governor. The successive developments come in light of the protesters' publicity of the oil paper against the Iraqi government, which the demonstrators accuse of still procrastinating in responding to their demands. In turn, the government made several statements during the previous days, stressing that the targeting of demonstrators to oil wells is targeting the economy of Iraq and sabotage accountable by the law, stressing that those who submit it will subject itself to sanctions.
Iraq is the second largest producer of crude oil in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) after Saudi Arabia, with an average production of 4.7 million barrels per day.
Iraq's current budget, 2019, expects expenditures of $ 112.6 billion, against revenues of $ 89.3 billion, and these figures were based on the average price of a barrel of oil at $ 56 and an estimated export rate of 3.8 million barrels per day.

TUKTUK, NEWSPAPER OF IRAQ'S UPRISING, ASPIRES TO BE VEHICLE FOR CHANGE

SULAIMANI — “If you kill us all, who will you rule over?” says the latest issue of Tuktuk newspaper, produced, printed and distributed by Iraqi anti-government activists to thousands of protesters camped out in Baghdad’s Tahrir Square.

The front cover features images of flag-waving demonstrators defying a crackdown by authorities after weeks of deadly unrest that has shaken the country out of two years of relative calm following the defeat of Islamic State, Reuters reported on Wednesday (November 20).

The newspaper, named after the three-wheeled motorcycles that have become a symbol of Iraq’s protests for ferrying wounded demonstrators to makeshift medical tents, is less than a month old.

Tuktuk started as an attempt to circumvent an information blackout by authorities who shut down the internet for weeks on end, and to crystallise the demands of protests that have swept Baghdad and southern Iraq.

Activists with a background in online news publishing are behind the project. They write the articles, edit the paper, print it in local printing shops and distribute some 2,000 copies to protest camps in Baghdad several times a week.

“Tuktuk is one of the few ways protesters on the street can get real, reliable reports of the unrest happening in the country,” said editor Ahmed al-Sheikh Majed, sitting in a Baghdad cafe going over articles on his laptop.

The newspaper features articles written by local activists and translations of international media reports about Iraq.

Protesters hand around copies of Tuktuk at Tahrir Square, the main protest camp in the capital.

“It’s great, it’s some of the only accurate news we see. We don’t know exactly where it’s written and printed, which is probably best for the editors to avoid arrest,” one demonstrator who only gave his name as Hussein, said as he read a copy.

Unidentified gunmen last month raided the offices of local and regional media outlets over coverage of the protests. Iraq’s leaders condemned attacks on the media but the perpetrators have not been identified.

CARRY ON PUBLISHING

Since the start of the unrest, more than 300 people have been killed in clashes with security forces who have used live ammunition, tear gas and stun grenades to quell the protests.

“We can’t rely on state media,” Majed said.

On days when Iraqi security forces have been clashing with protesters, state television has reported calm in Baghdad and broadcast government statements that barely mention the unrest.

The protests, which began on Oct. 1 in Baghdad and quickly spread through southern Iraq, broke out over lack of jobs and services.

They now demand the removal of a political elite seen as corrupt and puppets of Iraq’s two main allies, Iran and the United States. The mass protests are the biggest challenge to the political order that emerged after a US-led invasion toppled dictator Saddam Hussein in 2003.

Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi’s government has promised reform including more jobs for graduates, holding corrupt officials to account, electoral changes and an early vote.

Protesters and the editors of Tuktuk say those reforms do not go far enough as they would keep the current crop of Iraqi officials in power. They plan to keep protesting and publishing.

We’ll carry on printing until the demands of the revolution are met,” Majed said.

Iraq political deal hands Abdul Mahdi a reprieve in face of protests

https://www.thebaghdadpost.com/en/Story/44720/Iraq-political-deal-hands-Abdul-Mahdi-a-reprieve-in-face-of-protests

Iraq’s political forces have signed an agreement that will allow the government of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and the current Parliament to continue to operate until the end of the year.

In return, they have pledged to implement a number of demands issued by protesters, including a crackdown on corruption, amendments to the electoral law, changes to the Independent High Electoral Commission and a comprehensive ministerial reshuffle within 45 days, political leaders involved in the talks said on Tuesday.

However, the announcement of the deal, late on Monday, was criticized by protesters as an attempt by the political forces to give themselves some breathing space in the hope that the protests will run out of steam.

Widespread anti-government demonstrations began in Baghdad and nine Shiite-dominated southern provinces at the start of October. Since then, more than 300 people have been killed and 15,000 injured, mainly in Baghdad, by bullets and tear gas canisters during efforts by Abdul Mahdi’s government and its allies to suppress the unrest.

Protesters first took to the streets on Oct. 1 demanding action to address corruption, high unemployment and a lack of basic daily services and amenities. This prompted a brutal crackdown by Abdul Mahdi and his Iran-backed armed allies, during which 147 people were killed and more than 6,000 injured.

This temporarily halted the demonstrations but protesters returned to the streets on Oct. 24, after domestic and international pressure led to a pledge from security forces that they would not use live ammunition against demonstrators.

When the demonstrations resumed, protesters added a number of new demands, including the resignation of Abdul Mahdi’s government, changes to election law, early national parliamentary elections, and the formation of a new electoral commission.

Key Iraqi political forces, especially those backed by Iran, subsequently agreed to meet the demands of the demonstrators, with the exception of the resignation or removal of Abdul Mahdi and the holding of early elections.

However, growing internal pressure from the supreme religious authority in Najaf, led by Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Al-Sistani, international pressure from the United Nations and other diplomatic missions in Baghdad, and the high number of fatalities plus an increase in kidnappings and arrests of activists and journalists forced them to reconsider the demands they had rejected.

The political factions signed a written agreement late on Monday, after weeks of intensive meetings, stating that they will meet most of the demands of protesters within 45 days. If they fail to do so by Jan. 1, the government will be dismissed and preparations will begin for early elections, politicians said.

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah Abbadi, you were so big an bad when you were PM you actually allowed Iran to move into Iraq an set up camp under the pretense of helping oust ISIS. Your no better than the rest.

I'm also hoping the protesters don't fall for this 45 day stall these corrupt idiots are proposing. Parliament is taking a few days off because there's no real urgency for them to pass anything. If these brave protestors will keep the pressure up on blocking these roads to the oil fields to where it starts to cut into these corrupt politicians pocket book you will see them working 7 days a week...

Hizbullah to the Minister of Defense: Tear gas was officially imported by your ministry

Hizbullah Brigades in Iraq responded on Thursday, November 21, 2019, to the statements of Defense Minister Najah al-Shammari about the presence of a third party involved in the killing of demonstrators in the capital Baghdad and the rest of the provinces, stressing that he had been subjected to external pressure.

"The tear gas used in the demonstrations was imported from Serbia to the Ministry of Defense and used within official contexts," Abu Ali al-Askari, a security official in the movement, said.

Al-Askari commented on Defense Minister Najah al-Shammari's remarks about the presence of a third party involved in the killing of protesters.

Last week, al-Shammari confirmed in an interview with France 24 that he had not given any instructions to shoot demonstrators in the protests and pointed out that there was a third party behind the killing of the demonstrators.

Amnesty International said on 8 November that Iraqi authorities used Serbian tear gas to kill protesters rather than disperse them, according to new evidence.

The organization said in an update on an earlier report that it had conducted further investigations of smoke bombs, which are 40 mm in size and used to kill protesters.
