The process of digital transformation in Iraq and the development of the telecommunications sector

Sunday 24 November 2019

Wang Aye

During the current digital era, future societies are built on intelligent systems based on the latest communication and information technology networks, including smart homes, e-government services, self-driving cars and the positive impact on economies.

But to achieve this requires a lot of effort at the level of preparation for the path of digitization in many areas such as infrastructure and digital transformation plans for various sectors and vital industries, and most importantly the issue of equipping the younger generation with the required knowledge, skills and technical tools, not to be able to live in these fully connected smart communities. Not only in their civic and well-being, but also in building these communities and being the leaders and leaders of change in their countries.

Countries in the Middle East have developed promising national plans and ambitious insights that emphasize the role technology must play in empowering all sectors and industries, as well as their role in economic diversification and social development.

The "Iraq Vision 2030" is a good example of this. The digital transformation is leading to diversification of the sources of economic growth and job creation in Iraq, with GDP growth projected at 8 percent in 2020.

Theoretical structure, systems and policies need talented individuals to make them a reality, but current studies indicate that there are many gaps in this area, as the workforce in the region currently lacks the digital talent sufficient to meet future needs.

More emphasis was therefore placed on integrating technical knowledge that is in line with the current digital era with innovation-based education in curricula to bridge the digital divide and reach a digital society that provides integrated communication services for everyone and home. And foundation.

Today, ICT has become a key driver of the growth and progress of societies and the development of many industries. In light of global experiences in more than 170 countries around the world, Etisalat, including Huawei, is committed to supporting the development of ICTs and its ecosystems in the countries in which we operate, with the aim of enhancing long-term economic, social and environmental sustainability by leveraging our bottom line. We believe that education is one of the most important factors contributing to the creation of fair and sustainable development opportunities in the Middle East.

A sound, integrated and integrated ICT ecosystem will lead to digital transformation when it is open and based on cooperation frameworks, joint action and sustainable goals.

The talent ecosystem, as part of the ICT ecosystem, should aim to bridge the digital divide, develop local ICT talents and fulfill the company's social responsibilities towards the communities of the countries in which it operates.

This ecosystem requires a large number of qualified technical staff, able to meet the challenges of this transformation and qualified to deal with various future technical needs that are in line with the latest technology industry, while not having sufficient technical expertise. Information and communication, where the difference between supply and demand is one of the most important obstacles to the process of social progress. The gap between theoretical information gained in the classroom and the practical experience required in the real world must be addressed, requiring opportunities for skilled staff to learn and apply the latest technology.
