SULAIMANI — Speaking at an economic development conference in Erbil on Monday (October 14),  Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani said he hoped that the US would continue to support the people in northeastern Syria and end the influence of external powers in Syria.

His remarks came a day after the US announced that it was pulling virtually all of its forces out of the country.

However, the bulk of his speech focused on the conference’s stated goal of “promoting prosperity” between the Kurdistan Region and the US.

Talabani said that the KRG was responsible for managing affairs in the Region and that, even in challenging times, it would work to develop the economy and provide services for citizens.

He emphasized the importance of reform and digitizing the KRG’s administrative operations, which has been a signature issue for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) official.

Talabani also addressed concerns about Erbil’s long-strained relationship with Baghdad over a range of issues, including oil, security, the disputed areas, and the budget. The last issue is perhaps the most urgent, with officials already drafting the 2020 federal budget amid acrimony over the KRG’s refusal to abide by last year’s budget deal.

“We are working towards stabilizing our relations with the federal government,” he said.

Other speakers at Monday's conference included head of the KRG's office in the US Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman, US Consul General in Erbil Steven Fagin, federal Finance Minister Fuad Hussein, KRG Minister of Agriculture Begard Talabani, President of the Kurdistan Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry Dara Khyat, head of the KRG's Department of Foreign Relations Safeen Dizayee, and head of the UNDP office in Erbil Isabel Uribe.

The word "diversify" has the only two letters you need to do....for it to work.  R   V.  You want to diversify your economy, tell the gooneybirds at the CBI to RV their currency.  Otherwise, the only thing that will be diversified is the wallpaper in Iraqis bathrooms with the worthless dinar.  Why is this so hard for you people to understand???
