Security forces used water cannons to disperse protesters who broke barriers at dawn Friday and entered the Green Zone, which is being taken by the government and diplomatic missions in central Baghdad.

Security source said that hundreds of demonstrators were able to enter the Green Zone at dawn today. The demonstrators began to lift the barriers on the bridge of the Republic of Moody to the Green Zone, after advancing from Tahrir Square where they rallied hours ago demanding the dismissal of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, and dissolve parliament.

It is noteworthy that the security forces closed all roads to the Tahrir Square in central Baghdad, coinciding with the gathering of citizens preparing to demonstrate to demand reforms and eliminate corruption, while Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi called calls to overthrow his government and early elections outside the scope of the Constitution and the law as "adventure and chaos".

Security forces disperse demonstrators who crossed from Tahrir to the Green Zone

Iraqi security forces used water cannons to disperse anti-government demonstrators at the entrance to the Green Zone in central Baghdad, which includes official and diplomatic headquarters. A wave of protests resumed early this month.

A risque furniture store has had its advertising slogan blacklisted after claiming its prices were 'Sofa King Low'.

The slogan, which has been the Sofa King's strapline since it began trading nine years ago, appears on the Northampton firm's shop front and vehicles.

But the cheeky advert sparked complaints to police in 2004 and drew further criticism when used in a regional newspaper due to its possible interpretation as a swear word.

 

 

 

Risque: The Sofa King attracted complaints after its use of the slogan which could have caused 'widespread offence'

 

Three readers of the Northampton Herald and Post claimed the catchphrase was 'offensive and unsuitable for general display' when it appeared in the paper on August 4.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) upheld their objections.

 

The ASA noted that the phrase ‘Sofa King Low’ used the advertiser’s company name but considered that it could be interpreted as a derivative of the swear word ‘f***’, which consumer research had found to be a word so likely to offend that it should not be used in ads at all, even when it was relevant to the name of a product,' the watchdog said.

 

 

The furniture retailer also took out an advert in a local newspaper which caused offence

'Because of that, we concluded that the slogan was likely to cause serious or widespread offence.'

The Sofa King, based in Northampton, defended its advert and said it has been using the strapline since it began trading nine years ago.

'They said complaints made to Northamptonshire Police in 2004 were not taken further by the Crown Prosecution Service and that no complaints had been made direct to them,' the watchdog said.

'They said the slogan simply used their company name to refer to pricing and that the words had not been changed or run together or punctuation used in a way that was intended to cause offence.

No one in Iraq today, especially the younger generation, who did not know the details of the previous tyranny, wants to overthrow the current "regime". These oppressed youth (poor, deprived, obstructed horizons) want a "system" that serves their interests (the legitimate "interests" of ordinary "citizens"). The extravagant homeland cake, strangled by knives from all over the world, has nothing in their stomachs and those of their hungry families.

They only discovered (in a moment of noble anger) the meaning (and magnitude) of the lies that had been inflicted on them for nearly two decades of lost age and lost time. This "system" that exists now is simply not a system and the reasons are as follows:

• The current political “regime” in Iraq, now in power and wealth, is unable to offer anything positive to its citizens, except for the few “lucky” ones.

This ruling system cannot create jobs, because it is a system based entirely on oil revenues and neglects other "core" productive sectors, which are the main creators of income and jobs.

This "system" cannot promote the basic productive sectors, because it depends on the financing of the reasons for its survival on the "arms" import everything, and therefore does not allow, and will not allow, to produce anything. The sources of power and wealth here come mainly from the revenue from imports. A foreign "importer" kills the national "product", especially if the importation is unstable, and is not subject to sound economic account logic.

• This "system" finances its imports through the receipt of oil revenues, and then distributed a significant part of them to the "commercial arms" associated with it. These robust economic "arms" break all foreign trade "joints" and controls through their (direct and indirect) control of all of Iraq's "trade" outlets with the world.

The most that this regime can do for its citizens is an unfair and inefficient distribution of more than half of the oil revenues as "privileges" for a few "beneficiaries", as well as "disguised" unemployment benefits for a vast army of employees and retirees, and a distribution of Remains of the "crumbs" on those covered by the social "maintenance" system.

• This “system” cannot provide a solution to any problem, however minor. This is a crisis system. Its crisis lies in its severe imbalance and its structural social stress, due to the very conditions of its formation.
