What is the role of Israel in the explosions of weapons stores belonging to the Popular Mobilization?

BAGHDAD (Reuters) -
The embarrassment surrounding the popular buildup in Iraq has grown after the destruction of its fourth weapons depot in two months through mysterious bombings, the Independent newspaper reported on Wednesday.
While many fingers are pointed at Israel, the crowd is pressing the Iraqi government to suspend its security obligations with the United States, accused of facilitating or turning a blind eye to recent Tel Aviv raids on Iraq.
The hypothesis of the Israeli raids was raised in early July, when a big explosion was heard at a Popular Mobilization Camp in the Amerli area of Salah al-Din, north of Baghdad.
The highest military authority in Iraq, the Joint Operations, was quick to announce that a drones dropped an explosive device at Camp Amerli and spoke of injuries in the attack, but the Popular Mobilization denied that, saying that the incident is an internal fire, did not cause any fall victims.

A second attack
About a week later, a huge explosion was heard inside a camp belonging to the Popular Mobilization in Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad, did not know its reasons, while informed sources leaked reports of an air strike targeting a large weapons depot at the site.
The crowd also did not comment on the Diyala incident and appeared to contain these developments. But the August 12 bombing of one of his biggest weapons depots in Baghdad opened wide controversy.
For the first time, leaders of the Popular Mobilization came out openly to say that a weapons depot belonging to the PMF in Baghdad might have been subjected to an Israeli raid.

The Big Bang
disrupted the leaks surrounding this incident, but a government decision to control Iraqi airspace may have given a clear explanation.
The government announced that it had suspended all flight approvals in Iraqi airspace and recounted them to the commander-in-chief, Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi.
The Popular Mobilization considered this government decision an achievement, but observers have an Iraqi recognition of the theory of foreign air strikes attacking the camps of the Popular Mobilization.
For the first time, there are comments in Israel about such an attack in Iraq. An Israeli satellite company published pictures of the target crowd, noting that the nature of the scene confirms that it was subjected to an air strike.

A fourth blow
The Hashd barely answered these questions until a new weapons depot, north of Baghdad, was also mysteriously exploded. This turned the debate about the causes into a kind of irony.
The attack came about 24 hours after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made comments about bombing Iranian camps in Iraq. "Iran has no immunity anywhere," he said.
Netanyahu's comments came after a series of articles and analyzes in the Israeli press suggest that Tel Aviv may have expanded its military confrontation with Iran to include Iraq, after it was in Syria and Lebanon before.

Invisible Attacks
Iraqi security expert Hisham al-Hashemi says, "If the bombings, which took place in the crowd's weapons stores, were internal, or by non-aggressive fire, or because of natural or poor storage or negligence, and repeated four times, this requires the leadership of the crowd to hand over the stores to "Stacks of weapons and materiel from the armed forces do not explode, or their expertise cannot be used."
"If the source is external, it is obligatory to identify the enemy." He asked, "Has there been an invisible external bombing of the Iraqi National Air Defense Operations Center and of the Iranian air defense systems operating near the Iraqi border, covering 400 kilometers of the depth of Iraq?"
"If all these parties failed to detect the four attacks, did the radars of the United States and Russia fail to detect them as well?"
Al-Hashemi pointed out that the Popular Mobilization will not be able to respond to Israeli attacks, even if they are proven to occur, because the countries bordering Israel will not allow him to use its territory, including Syria itself.
But the PMU believes the United States is no longer useful to Iraq, and the government in Baghdad should suspend its security and military commitments with Washington.
The United States provides military services in Iraq in two directions, firstly its leadership of the international coalition against the terrorist organization "IS", and bear most of the costs of its operations, and secondly, training Iraqi forces and providing them with some weapons and experts.

The crowd is putting pressure on the government
Adnan Faihan, a member of the Iraqi parliament and a senior leader of Asaib Ahl al-Haq, says the security agreement with the United States "does not serve Iraq," calling on the government to cancel it.
Faihan described Baghdad's relationship with Washington as "dependency", calling on the prime minister to "liberate the Iraqi decision from this dependency."
"The region needs this emancipation," he said.
Faihan warned that the conquest alliance will announce "the names of all those who oppose our project to strengthen sovereignty."

Abdul-Mahdi's silence about the crowd bombings raises questions

Political | 05:47 - 21/08/2019

BAGHDAD -
The bombing at a crowd camp near the Balad airbase in Salah al-Din province, which resulted in widespread destruction in the camp and its weapons stores, raised questions raised by politicians about the silence of the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Adel Abdul Mahdi. Attacks that caused this incident, and other explosions preceded it, in the light of hints that it was the result of air strikes from Israeli drones.
A member of the parliamentary security and defense committee said that "MPs from the Fatah alliance have questioned the committee and the government about the reasons for the bombing of the Balad camp and the bombings that preceded it," adding that "there is an intention to raise this issue strongly during the next legislative term, after repeated talk about the possible presence of hands Zionism or American behind these bombings. "
Saadoun al-Saadi, a member of the parliament's deputies, called on the government and parliament to "clarify the truth to the people about targeting the PMU."
"The repeated targeting of the headquarters and stores of the Popular Mobilization demonstrates the existence of a clear and real project to target the security system and national sovereignty," Saadi said, calling on the Prime Minister and the House of Representatives to "show the truth to the people, and firmly confront the American and Israeli aggressions." And the army and the people their attitude. "
In turn, MP Sadikon Mohammed Karim, that "witnesses present in the region, saw the flight of a plane before the bombing of the camp Balad," and called on the government to "implement its decision on the no-fly, which he said was violated by hostile aircraft."
She asked former parliament member, Sarwa Abdul Wahid, about Tuesday's bombing, saying: "Is the operation carried out the approval of the government?", Adding, in a tweet on the "Twitter", that "the government canceled the flight in Iraqi airspace, and that the flight is linked to the Prime Minister Directly, "wondering who struck this base, and is it conceivable that the drones had agreed to the strike.

For his part, said a former member of the House of Representatives, Salah al-Din province, Mishaan al-Jubouri, "The bombing of a drone for the depots of the Popular Mobilization faction, in the area of Balad, raises questions whether the party that sent the plane has obtained the approval of the Commander-in-Chief, Ministers Adel Abdul-Mahdi, who has already restricted his flight approvals personally, adding on his Facebook page: "Especially since the place that was bombed is located next to an air base dedicated to F-16s."

The bombing of al-Hashd camp in Balad came five days after a decision by Abdul-Mahdi, in which he canceled all air permits in Iraqi airspace and for foreign aviation, against the backdrop of an explosion in a warehouse of weapons and ammunition south of Baghdad, amid the likelihood that the bombing was the result of aerial bombardment.

Explosions of the Popular Mobilization Camps in Iraq continue, amid great uncertainty, without announcing who was responsible for those operations, or who claimed responsibility.

According to Iraqi sources who spoke to " Sputnik ", does not rule out Washington's involvement in the operations, and it is linked to the ongoing conflict between Tehran and Washington, where America seeks to remove the military capacity of the Popular Mobilization in Iraq, so as not to resist the American project in the region, according to sources.

Iraqi MP Hassan Fadam al-Janabi says:

The explosion of security camps in Iraq has become a phenomenon, and it is not an ordinary incident.

What is the relationship between America and Israel?

He said in special statements to " Sputnik ", on Wednesday evening, that the repeated explosions of the camps confirms that some external forces are behind these operations, and that it is not unlikely to stand behind Washington or Tel Aviv, but the official authorities have not yet confirmed who is behind those operations .

Hassan explained that these explosions came either through aerial bombardment or targeting from the ground, but the lack of official announcement from the parties on the incident requires careful investigation.

Al-Janabi stressed that the investigation of targeting "Camp Saqr", confirmed with clear evidence that the bombing was the result of bombing by a drone.

External forces

He continued:

Certainly behind the blasts are external forces, but it has not been verified whether the operations were carried out by these forces or through agents inside.

On the relationship with the conflict between Washington and Tehran, Hassan said support Janabi that the US-Iranian conflict is linked to Iraq, especially since Baghdad is greatly affected by this conflict, but it is difficult so far to determine the responsibility of US forces or " Zionist entity ," for the bombing, but it does not rule out that".

Regarding the reasons for targeting the Popular Mobilization Camps, Fadim said that the arsenal possessed by the Popular Mobilization and missiles, and the confrontation of ISIS and its ability to manufacture locally are all reasons for those concerned, especially as the military capabilities threaten their project in Iraq.

Direct charges

The former deputy prime minister, Bahaa al-Araji, that the leaders of the scene are afraid to declare and announce the sources of explosions weapons stores.

He said in a tweet on Twitter :

If we do not yet know the sources of the explosions of the weapons stores of the Falcon camp and the base of Balad, we are weaker than responding.

Araji confirmed that the leaderboards know this, but they are notified of what happened, but they fear the declaration and advertising, according to his tweet.

Is it implemented by Tel Aviv?

Earlier, the company "Amigat International" Israeli, an Israeli company for satellite imaging, on Wednesday, pictures of a weapons depot in southern Baghdad, showing his exposure to an air strike.

She said the damage characteristics identified in the photographs show that "the explosion in the camp was probably caused by an air strike, followed by secondary explosions of explosives stored in the warehouse," according to the Times of Israel on its website.

Defense and National Security

The head of the parliamentary security and defense committee in Iraq, Mohammed Reza Al-Haider, revealed a very important new measure will be issued, relating to air sovereignty and the movement of military aircraft in Iraqi airspace.

In an interview with "Alsumaria News", Mohammed Reza Al-Haider, it is likely that what happened in the Falcon camp resulted from air strikes. He said that "there is a need to empty cities from weapons stores, whether belonging to the crowd or security forces," especially weapons that have the power "as far as rockets and heavy equipment."

The Role of the Popular Mobilization

The Popular Mobilization Forces, founded by a fatwa issued by the top Shiite cleric, Ali al-Sistani , in 2014, played a prominent role in defeating ISIS. As the United States sought to disband the forces late last year and the beginning of the current, allegedly his relationship with Iran.

  • A government investigation concluded a drone had set off the blast
  • The finding deepens the question of who is behind a string of at least 3 mysterious explosions that hit militia bases in Iraq in the past month

BAGHDAD: Iraq’s paramilitary groups on Wednesday blamed a series of recent blasts at their weapons depots and bases on the United States and Israel.
The statement from the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), the umbrella grouping of Iraq’s mostly Shiite Muslim paramilitary groups, many of which are backed by Iran, said the United States had allowed four Israeli drones to enter the region accompanying US forces and carry out missions on Iraqi territory.
“We announce that the first and last entity responsible for what happened are the American forces, and we will hold them responsible for whatever happens from today onwards,” said the statement, signed by deputy head of the PMF, Jamal Jaafar Ibrahimi, known by his nom de guerre Abu Mahdi Al-Mohandes.
The PMF statement came a day after several blasts hit a position held by a PMF group next to Balad air base about 80 km (50 miles) north of Baghdad.
As tensions between Washington and Tehran increase, Iraq finds itself caught between neighboring Iran, whose regional influence has grown in recent years, and the United States.
The US-led coalition, in Iraq to fight remnants of Daesh, dismissed the statement.
“The mission of CJTF-OIR in Iraq is solely to enable our Iraqi Security Force partners in the mission of an enduring defeat of Daesh,” it said. “We operate in Iraq at the invitation of the Government of Iraq and comply with their laws and direction.”
In Washington, the Pentagon denied involvement.
“The US is not involved in the recent warehouse explosions,” Commander Sean Robertson, a Pentagon spokesman, said in a statement.
“The US presence in Iraq supports Iraq’s efforts against Daesh; we support Iraq’s sovereignty and we are complying with Iraqi government directives about the use of their airspace,” Robertson added, using a western acronym for Daesh.
Iraq declared victory over Daesh in 2017, but there are still near-weekly operations against the group.
A blast last week at a weapons depot run by one group sent rockets careening across southern Baghdad, killing one person and wounding 29 others. Police at the time attributed the explosion to poor storage and high temperatures, but a government investigation is under way.
Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi last week ordered all ammunition dumps belonging to the armed forces or paramilitary groups to be moved outside of cities.
He also canceled all special flight permissions for Iraqi and foreign aircraft, meaning that sorties, including by the US-led coalition operating against Daesh militants, must be cleared in advance by the prime minister.
Some analysts have suggested the strikes might have been carried out by Israel, which signaled last year it could attack suspected Iranian military assets in Iraq, as it has done with scores of air strikes in Syria.
Israeli officials suggested recently they viewed Iraq, whose main ally is Israel’s regional foe Iran, as more of a threat than in recent years, but have not directly commented on the recent blasts at PMF sites in Iraq

Khamenei's office set in Iraq to recruit, brainwash children, youth

Nineveh Plains

It seems that Nineveh Plains have turned to what looks like an ‘Iranian settlement,” news reports quoted sources as saying.

Iranian offices have been set in the region to educate youth and children, in addition to the establishment of a school after the name of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Some Iraqi politicians complained about the presence of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in camps affiliated to the Iran Militia in Iraq and Syria (IMIS), in addition to the spread of photos of Khamenei and Iran’s consul during visits to Nineveh plains, located in Nineveh province, north of Iraq.

Nineveh Plains is historically considered a homeland for many Iraqi sects including Sunni Arabs, Kurds, Turkmen, Yazidis, Christians and Kakais.

However, it turned into what looks like an Iranian settlement after defeating ISIS there. Iran seeks strengthening its presence there, being the closest to the US bases in Mosul, including Qayyarah base, south of Mosul, and the base in the center of the city.

After the liberation of Nineveh Plains, IMIS imposed their control on the whole region and detained many of the people there with the pretext of terrorism. They also collected money and sent them to Iran.

Children recruitment office

In this context, Muzahim al-Huweit, the official spokesperson of the Arab tribes in disputed regions, said Khamenei’s office in Nineveh Plains is lead by Sheikh Hassan al-Shubuki with the help of his deputy Qussai Abbas al-Shubuki.

In remarks, Huweit said this office is for recruiting children and teaching them extremist thoughts.

He also added that “the main target behind this office is to wash the brains of the youth, convince them that Khamenei is their savior and that if it wasn’t for IMIS, you’d have never returned.”

Some members of IRGC and the Iranian intelligence, according to Huweit, are based in camps in Bartala and Hamdaniya regions. The office also transfers students toIran to train them on fighting and assassination in case of confrontations against the US.

Huweit also stressed that the presence of Iranians in some regions have become almost public.

Humanitarian aid cover

Huweit accused Iran of running operations on recruiting children and youth under the cover of offering humanitarian aid, exploiting the bad living standards of the people there especially after the destruction that happened in the region due to ISIS control and the liberation battles.

Huweit added that Hassan al-Shubuki has strong ties with Qassim Soleimani and that he takes his orders from him.

Meanwhile, Hassan al-Saba’wi, member of Nineveh Provincial Council, said he was surprised by the office, stressing necessity that “politicians in Iraq must be loyal only to their country instead of being loyal to Iran and Turkey.”

Some politicians, according to Sab’awi, “called for disbanding the army, while others called on Iran to control Iraqi airspace.”

The Pentagon: We have nothing to do with the recent explosions at a weapons depot in Iraq

The
Pentagon spokesman Sean Robertson said Wednesday that the United States has nothing to do with the recent explosions at a weapons store in Iraq.
Robertson said in a statement reported by "Al-Jazeera" and seen by (Mawazine News), "Washington declares its relationship with the recent explosions occurred in a weapons store in Iraq."
Reports said Wednesday that Israel was the ones to launch such raids as part of a campaign to weaken the Iraqi Popular Mobilization by targeting its weapons depots.
The Iraqi civil defense announced Tuesday evening that an explosion occurred in a weapons depot near the Balad air base in the province of Salah al-Din north of Baghdad, amid the possibility that the explosion was caused by shelling of the base itself or a military headquarters nearby.
It is noteworthy that four bombings hit four different places in Iraq, the first on July 19 northeast of Baghdad, the latest on Tuesday near the air base in the province of Salah al-Din.

After being accused of bombing his camps, Washington is responding to the crowd and asking the Iraqi government a question

BAGHDAD -
A US State Department official responded on Wednesday to a statement by the Popular Mobilization Service, in which he accused the United States of involvement in explosions at Hashd military sites.
"The United States respects the sovereignty of Iraq and its presence there is based on the invitation of the Iraqi government and in accordance with its laws and directives," the US official said.
The official called to "ask the Iraqi government for information on the statement of the Popular Mobilization."
Four military bases used by the Popular Mobilization were subjected to mysterious explosions last month, the latest of which took place on Tuesday evening, at a headquarters near Balad Air Base in Salahuddin province.
There were reports of Israeli involvement in these operations, without any direct accusation in this regard from the Iraqi government, and without any claim of responsibility.
After a long silence, the PMU issued a statement earlier in the day, saying it had "accurate and confirmed information that this year the Americans had brought in four Israeli drones via Azerbaijan to operate within the US fleet to carry out sorties targeting Iraqi military headquarters."
The United States has previously denied any role in the PMF bombings.
According to a report of a government fact-finding committee, also released Wednesday, that an explosion occurred at the base of al-Saqr near Baghdad on August 12, caused by an air strike by a drone, without disclosing the destination of that aircraft.
The series of explosions began in mid-July, after the camp "martyrs" of the Popular Mobilization in the region of Amerli, to "shelling by an unknown drone aircraft," according to a statement of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command.
Then explosions occurred in Camp Ashraf Diyala, and then in a crowd warehouse inside the Falcon camp of the Federal Police south of Baghdad, and then at the headquarters near Balad Air Base.

The three Iraqi presidencies called for the need to investigate what happened recently to the weapons stores belonging to the Popular Mobilization and rejected the principle of settling accounts. The head of the Popular Mobilization Commission, Faleh al-Fayyad, distanced himself from the statements of his deputy Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes, who blamed the US forces and Israel for the bombing attacks on his camps. .

"President Barham Salih, Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and Parliament Speaker Mohammed Halbousi held a meeting to discuss the latest developments in the country," a presidential statement said on Thursday. The meeting affirmed, according to the statement, the commitment to the document of the "National Unified Policy on Regional Security Developments", and the importance of enhancing the internal political cohesion and stability on the principle of observing the sovereignty, security and independence of Iraq, rejecting the policy of axes, settling accounts and distancing the country from being a point of attack on any. From neighboring countries and the region.

While the statement of the presidencies rejected the «principle of proxy war and the attempt of any regional or international party to drag Iraq into war and conflicts that Iraq has resolved its position in favor of the pivotal role of Iraq for peace and development and progress and cooperation among all», he stressed «to be any security decision The military or a statement in this regard entrusted to the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces only according to the constitutional contexts, and the obligation of all military and security and political leaders and commitment to do so ». The presidential statement came hours after statements appeared to be contradictory among the leaders of the Popular Mobilization. Whereas Abu Mahdi al-Muhandes, deputy head of the PMU, threatened the United States and Israel to confront any future breakthrough attempt, PMU chairman Faleh al-Fayyad said in a separate statement that the engineer's statement was his own.

Fayyad said in a statement issued late on Tuesday, after a meeting of the leaders of the crowd with Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, that «the hypothesis of the external factor in targeting the crowd camps is likely», hours after the announcement of the «Associated Press» Obtained a copy of the government report on the disclosure of the circumstances of what happened in the camp Falcon south of Baghdad during the Eid al-Adha last. According to the US agency, the bombing was caused by a raid carried out by the aircraft «Drone», excluding what was previously reported on an electrical fault or the storage of munitions wrong. A government official told Asharq Al-Awsat: "The report is not complete and contains many details about what happened."

While political observers in the Iraqi capital believe that the contradiction of statements and statements by the crowd leadership represented by its president (Faleh al-Fayyad) and his deputy (Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes) indicates the existence of a crisis in how to deal with what can be generated by the future, especially if Israel continues to bombard Crowd camps or in the event of assassination of leaders in the crowd according to information disclosed by the engineer.

The engineer announced that the crowd had no choice but to self-defense and our headquarters with our existing weapons and the use of more sophisticated weapons, noting that he was informed «Joint Operations Command that we will consider any foreign aircraft will fly over our headquarters without the knowledge of the Iraqi government hostile flight, and we will deal with him according to "We will use all methods of deterrence to prevent attacks on our headquarters." This is what Fayyad promised in his statement that he does not formally reflect the Authority's point of view.

To that, a member of the Iraqi parliament for the conquest Alliance Naim al-Aboudi in a statement to «Middle East» that «all the data and indicators confirm that the targeting of weapons stores, specifically stores of weapons of the Popular Mobilization is an external factor and through drones».

He added that «this targeting puts us and put the State in front of a great responsibility where the government must frankly the Iraqi people in addition to raising the air defenses to the level of challenges as the next challenges are security challenges and the explosions that confirmed this». He explained that «Iraq retains the response when diagnosed who did this and we hold the United States of America responsible for this breach».

He pointed out that «Iraq as well as the Popular Mobilization has the right to respond in the right place and time where it became clear that there are violations of the sovereignty of Iraq». In the same context, Haider al-Mulla, a leader in the Reform and Reconstruction Coalition, told Asharq Al-Awsat that there are clear fears of transferring the US-Iranian conflict inside Iraq, which means that Iraq will be an alternative arena for settling scores between the two parties.

"What is required is that the Iraqi government and Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi have a clear vision and stance on the lack of development of the crisis and preventing the country from being drawn into conflicts that we do not accept, especially since Iran had previously threatened that it would target American interests in Iraq," he said. At the same level, reactions by the most prominent Iraqi political leaders to what happened. While the three presidencies (the Republic, the ministers and the parliament) held a meeting at the Peace Palace to discuss the latest developments, the leader of the national wisdom movement, Ammar al-Hakim, targeted the Iraqi military installations as a "serious violation of national sovereignty."

"What's going on?" Hakim said in a tweet on Twitter. Repeated violations of Iraqi sovereignty in the shadow of official silence and government strange to reveal the parties, reasons and motives, what is no longer expressions of condemnation and condemnation sufficient and what is exposed to our military facilities is a serious violation of our national sovereignty ». He called on the government to shoulder its responsibilities towards these violations and defend the fever of the country.

For his part, called on the former Prime Minister and leader of the coalition of law Nuri al-Maliki to speed up investigations and procedures that would identify external parties «hostile» involved in targeting Iraqi military headquarters. Al-Maliki said in a statement on Thursday, "we renew the demand to expedite the investigations and necessary procedures that would identify the hostile external actors behind the successive bombings that targeted the headquarters and weapons stores belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces and military services in different parts of Iraq, and to inform the public."

He added that «the government's announcement of the parties behind these bombings will help in obliging all popular and political forces to participate in the political process to assume its responsibility in supporting the government and security forces in defending the sovereignty of Iraq and the higher interests of the Iraqi people». Maliki called on the government to «strengthen the capabilities of our armed defense forces to meet the challenges that threaten the sovereignty, security and sky of Iraq».

In addition, the International Coalition revealed the approval of the Iraqi government to use airspace in emergencies. "In emergencies, the Joint Task Force command has approval from the Iraqi government regarding specific measures to use airspace so that evacuation of wounded coalition and Iraqi security personnel to medical facilities will not be delayed," coalition spokesman Colonel Scott Rollinson said Thursday. ». He added that «the Iraqi government has full access to the tasks of aviation of the International Coalition», noting «we are fully committed to the restricted airspace».

In the context of this, the Popular Mobilization on Thursday targeted a reconnaissance aircraft flying over the headquarters of the crowd forces on the outskirts of the capital Baghdad. The crowd said in a brief statement: «the air defenses of the Popular Mobilization, on Thursday, to target a reconnaissance aircraft over the headquarters of the 12th Brigade in the crowd in the capital Baghdad». He added that «air defenses of the 12th Brigade of the Popular Mobilization targeted reconnaissance aircraft flying over the headquarters of the brigade in the Baghdad belt», noting that «air defenses of the crowd thwarted the mission of the enemy aircraft».

In recent weeks, there have been a series of explosions at weapons depots and bases belonging to armed groups in Iraq, many of which are backed by Iran, Israel's arch-enemy.

In an interview with Russian-language Channel 9 television broadcast on Thursday, Netanyahu was asked whether Israel would strike Iranian targets in Iraq if necessary. Of course, I gave the security forces a hand and instructed me to do anything necessary to thwart Iran's plans. ”

Netanyahu did not name Iraq as one of these areas.

Israel says it has carried out hundreds of strikes in Syria, some of which hit Iranian targets, to prevent Tehran from establishing a military presence there and to prevent advanced weapons from reaching its proxies in the region.

Israeli officials have recently indicated that they consider Iraq to be more of a threat than in the past few years, but have not commented directly on recent bombings at the PMF.

The Popular Mobilization Body, which groups mostly Shi'ite groups, on Wednesday blamed the United States and Israel for the blasts at its weapons depots and bases.

The United States has allowed four Israeli drones to enter the area with US forces and carry out missions on Iraqi soil, the agency said in a statement.

The Pentagon denied involvement in the strikes. The US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State in Iraq rejected the statement.

Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi last week ordered the transfer of all ammunition depots belonging to the armed forces or armed factions outside the cities.

He also revoked all permits for private flights of Iraqi or foreign aircraft, which means the prime minister must pre-authorize flights, including those carried out by the US-led coalition fighting Islamic State.
