  • yota691 changed the title to Iraq to revive oil pipeline: likely to be used for export to Jordan
Iraq plans to revive an oil pipeline

A senior official in the Iraqi energy sector revealed the implementation of an experimental pumping of oil in the main pipeline linking  the oil fields of Kirkuk (north) and the city of Haditha (western), for the first time in five years.
The Iraqi official, who declined to be named, said the aim of the test pump was to determine the levels of damage and other technical problems in the pipe, in a move that was interpreted as part of the steps to implement an oil agreement between
Iraq and Jordan , concluded earlier this year. A pipeline from Basra to the port of Aqaba to export Iraqi crude with a capacity of about one million barrels per day.

This comes about two weeks after the announcement of the Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Hala Zawati, the arrival of the first shipment of Iraqi crude oil exported from Iraq to Jordan, and by 10,000 barrels by land across the border under the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries last February. With the efforts of Iraq, which resulted in the completion of this important part of cooperation in the field of energy between the two sides thanks to the interest and support of the leaderships of the two brotherly countries.

According to the Iraqi official, the North Oil Company in Kirkuk recently, a process of pumping in the pipeline from Kirkuk passing through the city of Baiji to the city of Haditha, at the station (K3) west of the country to find out the current problems in the pipeline and maintenance, adding that this process is taking place for the first time since More than five years ago, the company stopped supplying oil to the pipeline via the pipeline because of the takeover of Anbar in 2014 by ISIS, the terrorist organization.

The official added, "The pumping was to assess the pipeline's oil and to know the damage, and found that it is not large and the experimental pumping process succeeded and we identified the status of the line and its carrying capacity, to transport oil," pointing out that "the pipeline is ready to work within At another stage, he will determine whether he will be involved in the project to export Iraqi oil from Basra to Aqaba, Jordan,
while specialists in the oil sector in Iraq that the important step towards the completion of the pipeline that Baghdad and Amman rely on a lot to create a port New export to Iraq away from T. Rkiya and Basra ports on the confused security of the Arabian Gulf.

According to the experts will ensure that Jordan 's continuing domestic consumption of oil supplies, as will reduce allocated to complete the project as well as the financial cost of time, without the need to create a new tube at the distance of about 430 km.
Observers confirm that the capacity of the pipeline does not exceed a quarter of a million barrels while the agreement with Jordan is one million barrels per day, excluding that the test pump has to do with the oil project with Jordan at the present time unless there is an expansion plan or considered as a line of several lines to be established to his side.

Iraqi economist Ali Khalil told Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed that the pipeline is considered one of the important oil pipelines in western Iraq, but pumping oil from Kirkuk through it only means testing it, as the agreement with Jordan requires that the linkage from the Basra oil fields The south of the country and not the northern fields of Kirkuk.

He adds , "Most of Iraq 's cities served by lines of oil medium and large capacity pumping oil in the pipeline could mean that it will be used within the Iraqi linkage Jordanian oil project or that it will return its previous function , which feed power plants and the unity of a small refinery in the city of Haditha in western Iraq oil. The

Iraqi government approved the mid - year An agreement is underway to establish an oil pipeline with an estimated capacity of one million barrels per day with a length of more than 1700 km, and a final cost of up to $ 18 billion to transport oil from Basra on the waters of the Arabian Gulf in southern Iraq to the Jordanian port of Aqaba on the Red Sea.
The Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi announced earlier in July that the Iraqi Council of Ministers approved the draft Iraqi-Jordanian oil pipeline, stressing that any obstruction to export oil through the Strait of Hormuz will affect the national economy, which depends on oil revenues, The Council of Ministers is considering alternatives to find different and diverse paths in order to ensure the continuation of the movement of Iraqi oil exports in a smooth manner.
