Trump tells AOC and Ilhan Omar to 'go back' to their 'original' countries

Donald Trump has said some Democrat congresswomen from countries “whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe” should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came”.
While it was not explicitly clear to whom the US president was referring, it came after he launched an extraordinary attack on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar – both women of colour – saying he “doesn’t even know where they came from”.

He tweeted: “So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run.

“Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done.

“These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough.
“I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”
Commenters quickly condemned Mr Trump’s comments as racist, some accusing him of xenophobia or “early Hitler”-style talk.
One replied: “These women are American citizens. They are doing the most patriotic thing available to them: questioning and critiquing their government.
“Patriotism is much more than just saluting a flag or singing an anthem.”
Another told the president: “Three of the four were born here, so you may be right about fixing the place where they were born. The fourth is a citizen. All were elected by a majority. You fail on all counts.”
Many pointed out his wife, Melania, was not born in America.
Yesterday, Mr Trump had claimed Ms Ocasio-Cortez and Ms Omar were among a group of Democrats being “disrespectful” to speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Ms Pelosi had told colleagues she was frustrated with people using social media to criticise other members of the party. The comments were interpreted as being directed at Ms Ocasio-Cortez, Ms Omar, and two other Democrat women, all of whom have large social media followings among progressives and have been outspoken.
The president said: “I deal with Nancy Pelosi a lot and we go back and forth and it’s fine, but I think that a group of people is being very disrespectful to her. And you know what, I don’t think that Nancy can let that go on.”

His history of racist comments includes sharing a tweet attacking Sadiq Khan, the London mayor, following three killings in the city.
“London needs a new mayor,” Mr Trump wrote. “Khan is a disaster – will only get worse!”

Considering that 3 of the four congresswomen were born in the United States and the 4th became a U.S. citizen at age 17, a much younger age than Melania received her citizenship, any reasonable person must conclude that Donald is once again way off base and saturated with xenophobia....otherwise if he's to be believed in this case, then his ancestry would call for him to return to Germany where the 1930's and 40's would suit him best....diversity to the left, racism to the right.

Trump’s tweet is shameful and I won’t try to defend his dispicable tirade.

I do understand his frustration with the actions and words of those Congresswomen.

They are every bit as shameful and despicable as any Congress people we have ever seen serve.

Their actions and speeches are filled with hate and disdain for Americans and America.

And yet I do not see you denounce the hate filled words aimed at our Jewish Americans from Omar.  If you are going to get self righteous you have to be say the same thing about what those Congresswoman have been tweeting as well. Hate isn’t the answer from either side and all Americans need to stand up and corral our angry politicians.

Apathy from those on the Right in Congress is also shameful...it means they agree with him on this matter.  What's  next for diversity in Trumpland...arm bands?

The pushback on Omar and her anti Jewish rhetoric was swift and well deserved if you recall....as it should be on Trump now.

And yet Trump is attacked with hate and disgust from day one and that is okay.

No sympathy from me when socialist politicians get a taste of their own.

If they can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

And yes it is wrong when anybody does but this is the arena of politics.

Of course the kitchen you speak of is the United States of America...not some far off foreign land as Trump wants you to believe...

this reeks of his birther movement.

nsoolman all politicians are attacked by the media on one side or the other and most are made fun of on SNL and alike. There is only one politician and his followers who can't seen to take the heat.

Either way, his words are not presidential or statesman like. They are more like the words of a middle schooler. Juvenile at best.

No Shabs, the kitchen I speak of is the arena of politics. These socialist politicians think they can spout off their drivel with imunity and when they get called on it they cry

all the "isms".

BA, I don't call enduring 2 years of hate and media attacks not standing the heat.

I endured 8 years of tearing the country down and have enjoyed 3 years of building it back up. I will enjoy another 5 God willing.

And still you miss the point that they are ALL Americans, there is no foreign land to return to as Trump would have his supporters believe.

If Republicans can't condemn Trump's racist tweets, they are as racist as he is

USA TODAY OpinionJuly 15, 2019

President Donald Trump speaks with reporters before boarding Marine One on the South Lawn of the White House, on April 5, 2019, in Washington.
President Donald Trump speaks with reporters before boarding Marine One on the South Lawn of the White House, on April 5, 2019, in Washington.

President Donald Trump didn’t invent bigotry. It’s always been there, just beneath the surface where America’s collective conscience could pretend it didn’t exist.

Immigrants like me know it because we’ve endured the incessant “go back” drumbeat from the moment we set foot on American soil. Every generation of immigrants has endured it, from the Africans, the Irish, the Chinese to the Mexicans.

But Trump propelled bigotry into mainstream America. We can’t pretend it doesn’t exist, as Republicans collectively tried to do Sunday after the president’s attack on four nonwhite congresswomen.

With few exceptions, conservatives remained silent. Those who spoke uphave little or nothing to lose, politically speaking.

Are they really as racist as Trump?

We’ve known for years that Trump didn’t get to the White House alone. The Republican Party put him there. Republicans, even those who at times appear to be sensible conservatives, put him there. They’re our neighbors, our co-workers, our doctors, our bank tellers. And yes, some of them even call themselves our friends.

Why were these conservatives collectively silent over Trump’s racist rants? I can think of one reason. They're as racist as Trump.

In a tweet, Trump aimed at Democratic U.S. Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna S. Pressley of Massachusetts.

“So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world,” Trump said in a series of tweets.

He went on: “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”

So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly......

Never mind that three of the four nonwhite congresswomen, who have been feuding with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, were born in the United States. Omar was born in Somalia but is a U.S. citizen.

This is painful. And it's not OK

Democrats’ rebuke was appropriately swift. But Trump’s tirade achieved something else.

It distracted from the increased criticism over the conditions of immigration detention facilities and the weekend immigration raids. It kept the nation in a perpetual rift, and it sent minorities spinning down the memory lane of generational racism of “go back to where you came from.”

The fury against Trump’s racial slurs consumed the nation Sunday. It’s infuriating to think of conservatives enjoying their weekend as if nothing had happened — some even savoring the pain and anger of so many.

Yes, Trump’s attack inflicted pain. It plunged a dagger into an already bleeding heart of a nation of immigrants where people of color aren’t welcomed.

It plunged a dagger into friendships, acquaintances, neighbors. Can we look into a Trump supporter’s eye and not say anything over his or her silence, even if that person is otherwise friendly?

It plunged a dagger into efforts of anyone who had held out hopes of finding common ground in this toxic political environment.

The conservatives who remain silent over Trump’s disparaging remarks and his policies against nonwhites may think they're getting away with it. But they’re fooling themselves.

I have to jump in on this one .  What Trump said is hard to hear,  offending to some and somewhat partially wrong.   Doesn't make it not true though!  The part of statement that said go back where you came from if you don't like hear is true.  To bad three of the four were born here. Makes his statement sound ignorant and uninformed.  Can't hide that.  But if you want to talk crap about the USA, minmalize 9/11, constantly talk about bone headed socialism, Say "F Trump" during your winning speech, and overall get your own party to hate you because everything you say is just plain wrong and nauseating THEN GET THE HELL OUT!.  In no way was it racist!  He didn't say all black or mexicans, irish, German etc..leave.  He said if you have a problem with the USA go back to where you came from.  I'm saying if you you were born here and hate the USA then get yourself a passport, go take residence  in another country and experience the utopia they have.  If you simply disagree with some policies and want to intelligently figure out a compromise then stay and have a chat.

Trump says some dumb things.  He is not totally PC or always factually correct.  But he is human, as all presidents have been in the past. He is entitled to the same free speech everyone else has.  I for one am glad he has the vesticular tenacity to say what he wants and not worry about if someones feelings get hurt, or if it is purposely spun in the media to mean something else.  Ever notice  you can literally say something  plainly and directly and someone will find a hidden meaning.  I see it in these threads all the time.  Then someone has the gall to tell YOU what YOU meant in your statement.   If more presidents had said what was on their mind and not worried about feelings and this overly PC environment we've created, we may hot have the slack jawed, hand wringing, sissyfied, lobbying, self interest, oxyegn thieving  group of people we call congress.

If you hate it here then leave.  Good job MR. President!

I am getting really tired of all this socialist BS and race bating crap. It's all right out of the communist handbook. The President is a smart man. He did not get to where he is at by being stupid. I believe his mind works faster than his typing. I know I do that at times and end up saying something I shouldn't. I am sure the President knows exactly where they are from, and while I don't completely agree with the way he put out his tweet, I understand what he was trying to say. When he said “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done.", I really believe he was talking about their districts that they are supposed to be serving. All of them are high unemployment, low income, low education rate and high crime. I can almost guarantee that they are mostly government subsidized and welfare districts. (you Think?) However, they hate America and want to bad mouth anything American and want free everything for everyone. So, YES, I agree with the President that they need to go back to their districts and fix them first! Don't push your social agenda on me. Like the old saying here in Texas, "Don't p1ss on me and try to tell me its raining"!

Humm, the way I read Trump's Tweet was don't sit here and tell us how to run Our Country......Go back to your Country of origin.....In other words if you are of  Palestinian Decent or Somalia Decent go back and help fix the Government is those countries and them come back and tell us how it worked out.

AOC could go to any number of countries...Venezuela, Columbia, Brazil as she seems to Champion    those places over the United States.
