US analysis: Qatar promotes that America "feeds" on the Iraqi economy

An American analyst has reported on Qatari funds, which are distributing gifts and donations to major US universities, asking the Emir of Qatar to clean up gifts for universities and schools.

Washington is witnessing a wide-ranging debate on foreign influence groups, especially as Qatar spends tens of millions of dollars on lobbyists in Washington, as well as raising the specter of Qatari spending in gifts to major US universities.

Farsha Kodovior, a senior research analyst specializing in Gulf affairs at the FDD, published an article on Fox News urging the US administration to take firm positions on Qatari funding, warning of suspicious purposes behind donations to US schools and universities. The need to verify the nature of the scientific research funded by Qatar in American universities, as well as a thorough review of all the contributions of Qatar Foundation in the field of school curricula for Arabic language programs.

Billions of dollars for suspicious purposes

The total funding of US universities is US $ 1.4 billion. Doha is the largest foreign donor to US universities. Funding is directed specifically to Georgetown, Texas A & M, Virginia Commonwealth, Cornell, Michigan, North Western and others. The Georgetown, Virginia Commonwealth and Cornell Universities Texas A & M has branches in Qatar.

The problem, according to a letter from the US Department of Education that announced a decision to investigate US funding for US universities, is that the Georgetown and Texas A & M disclosures "do not include fully and accurately" Qatari gifts and donations.

US federal law provides for the disclosure and reporting of any foreign donations worth more than $ 250,000. The Ministry of Education's investigation is part of a wider effort to monitor foreign funds at American universities.

According to the analyst, it is worrying that Qatar, rather than helping to clarify matters, is fighting transparency, which will negatively affect academic freedom and the research agenda funded by Qatar.

The administration should inform Doha that the time has come to change that, and that donations are for fair purposes.

"Business Secret"

Qatar sends most of its donations to US universities through the Qatar Foundation, which is owned by Qatar's ruling family. Last October, Qatar Foundation took a rare step by suing the Texas Attorney General to prevent him from forcing Texas A & M University to disclose its contract with Qatar, claiming that the terms of the contract were a "trade secret" Causing commercial damage.

But the US Department of Education's investigations are very important as Texas A & M is a government institution, not a private institution that is not obliged to disclose the terms of its contracts, especially as Virginia Commonwealth University has made it voluntary.

Promote hate speech

If the problem of secrecy does not raise the alarm, at least a few facts should be taken into account, including the fact that Qatar Foundation is famous for hosting extremist advocates strongly in its elegant mosque in Education City in Qatar, which broadcasts directly via satellite to universities in the states United Nations.

The advocates of extremism, in an atmosphere of welcome and encouragement, propagate the hate speech, which serves as the backbone of the ideology of terrorist groups such as Dahesh.

The mosque of Qatar's educational institution hosted an extremist preacher who called for the 2015 Charley Hebdo massacres in Paris and others who spread hatred and urged bloodshed and the promotion of misconceptions.

Suspicious relationships

"If an organization funds such extremism, it is essential that the American people know what kind of programs they fund at American universities," says Kudoffior. It must also be clear that charitable giving in Qatar is not altruism, but rather a way in which donors hope to encourage US policymakers to condone the heinous acts of Qatar abroad, such as suspicious relations with Hamas in Gaza and the financing of militias Extremists in Libya and pay a huge ransom to terrorists in Iraq and Syria.

Washington must make clear to Doha that America welcomes real investments in its education system, but does not accept pushing for influence to achieve malicious aims. Trump's management must explicitly state that it will not tolerate Qatar Foundation's bad efforts to circumvent federal disclosure rules.

Targeting school children

According to the Wall Street Journal, Qatar Foundation, through its branch of the Qatar International Foundation (QFI), donated more than $ 30 million to government schools in Texas, Oregon, Arizona and other places to teach language Arabic.

While what may seem to be a generous donation from Qatar to schools from kindergarten through grade 12 to contribute to the costs of teacher training programs, cultural events and curriculum development, a closer look at the matter shows that support from the Qatar Foundation Not in line with American values. For example, the Qatar Foundation website, which represents the main curriculum resource of the Foundation, provides a lesson plan entitled "Express your allegiance to Qatar." Another set of lessons states that the United States launched the Iraq war "to feed" the Iraqi economy.

To escape the Qatari threat

"Qatari criticism can benefit the Americans, but only if it comes under real supervision," says Kudoffior. Therefore, universities must announce any grants provided by Qatar Foundation and clarify the relationship between the institution and the troubled history of Qatar, which has supported and continues to support extremist preachers.

The LEAs and school boards should carefully review the educational materials or curricula distributed by Qatar Foundation to ensure that the curriculum and lessons are positive and consistent with the values of American society.

Qatar operates a smaller area of Connecticut but has huge reserves of natural gas and its ruler has absolute powers, but the US has the ability to dictate its terms to Qatar. President Trump should not hesitate to do so.

I agree and Good Afternoon Pitcher .Qatar . Is this not the same country that hired Olympic weightlifters to relocate to their country from various parts of the world . Then change names to an arabic name . Winning gold medals for Qatar in a past Olympics  ? Sounds like they are trying to repeat the process in the Higher Education Field ???
