BAGHDAD / MESSALA: The media office of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi revealed on Monday, June 17, 2019 details of the meeting of Abdul Mahdi with the envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi expresses his pride in the development of Iraqi-Russian relations

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Abdulmahdi met today with the Special Envoy of the Russian President to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev and his accompanying delegation, including the Deputy Foreign Minister and a number of officials from the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs and the Russian Charge d'affaires in Baghdad. The developments of the situation in Syria, stability in it and preparations for the convening of the Astana conference, as well as the regional situation and the current crisis between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Prime Minister expressed his thanks and appreciation for the positions of President Putin in support of Iraq and his pride in the development of relations and satisfaction of the common desire to expand them in all fields. He stressed that the Iraqi-Russian relations are important and influential and should be strengthened for the benefit of the two countries and peoples and the region, Regional issues and work to spare the region the threat of terrorism and the consequences of escalation and war and achieve peace and stability for their peoples.

The Russian envoy conveyed the greetings of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his wishes to Iraq, his government and his people for further progress, stability and prosperity, the desire for continued cooperation between the two friendly countries and the strengthening of bilateral relations and his country's welcome to Iraq's strong role in the region. Stability in Syria and the whole region, Russia's interest in Iraq's participation in the Astana conference as an observer, and the need for neighboring countries to cooperate to end the state of war and to continue efforts to fight terrorism and eliminate the remnants of support.

The meeting was attended by Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Nizar al-Khairallah and a number of officials in the ministries of defense and foreign affairs and advisers.
