Baghdad - Mawazine News
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity, Abbas Jabr, Wednesday, that Iraq has three years to achieve self-sufficiency of electricity and it is difficult for him to achieve it in a short period.
"Iraq currently produces 19.5 gigawatts of electricity a year and needs 26.5 gigawatts," he said.
"This is compelled because the ministry does not have enough generating capacity to cover the demand in Iraq," he said, stressing that "it is difficult for Iraq to achieve self-sufficiency in electricity, but perhaps it can within three years."
He pointed out, "These figures do not include the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region in northern Iraq."

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources in Jordan, stressed the importance of electricity linkage with Iraq within the framework of the Arab electrical linkage, in order to enhance trade relations and achieve energy integration.

Hala Zawati said on Friday that these projects would enhance the Arab electricity connection in the framework of aspiration for a common Arab market that contributes to Arab integration and serve the Arab peoples.

The Minister stressed the importance of electricity interconnection projects in reducing costs and forming a safety net for all participating countries.

Zawati's comments came in response to the Iraqi government's decision to approve "accelerating the contract with Jordan to import electricity."

Zouati praised the energy cooperation relations with Iraq, especially after the export of Iraqi oil via tankers to Jordan in September 2019.

She expressed hope that the implementation of the linkage network with the Republic of Iraq will begin soon, complete the procedures of extending the pipeline of Iraqi oil through the port of Aqaba and the implementation of the remaining energy cooperation projects between the two countries.

An Iraqi official source confirmed that the Iraqi government agreed to accelerate the contract with Jordan to import electricity and fill the shortage.

"The Ministry of Electricity will import electricity from Jordan to fill the shortage that Iraq is trying to provide," he told Petra.

In July, Jordan and Iraq agreed on a timetable for implementing the Jordanian-Iraqi connection to supply Iraq with electricity from the Jordanian grid at the end of 2021, with an approximate length of 300 km, estimated at $ 140 million.

The Iraqi Council of Ministers recently approved the recommendation of the Ministerial Council of Energy to approve the Ministry of Electricity contract on the project of electricity linkage between Iraq and Jordan.

The Iranian Fars News Agency quoted Erdakianian as saying that "the contract to supply electricity to Iraq is annual, similar to the general budget in this country."

He added that "Iran has entered into a protocol of cooperation with Iraq that extends for three years in order to provide assistance to the Iraqi electricity industry in all dimensions, as the electricity export document is a clause stating the continuity of electricity supply to this country as long as this is required."

He stressed that "the contract will inevitably be extended, in addition to conducting synchronization between the electricity systems of Iran and Iraq, for about a month to come, according to the scheduled agenda."

Ministry of Electricity: Iraq needs Iranian gas and the agreement is still effective

Al-Ahed News - Baghdad

The Ministry of Electricity stressed the importance of the agreement to import gas from Iran to supply fuel for power stations.

The ministry spokesman, Ahmed Moussa, said in a press statement that Al-Ahd News followed, "today, Wednesday, that" Iraq continues to import the energy and associated gas from Iran, as part of an agreement between the two parties, and that the supply will be as requested by Iraq.

He added, "Tehran confirmed that the process of generating the energy exported to Iraq is part of Iran's financial budget, and it is supplying the energy according to the request of Iraq."

Moussa stressed that "the agreement is still effective, because Iraq needs gas supplied from Iran," noting that "the import of energy is limited and my time ends with the possession of a fuel plan that the ministries of Electricity and Oil are working on to establish gas fields accompanying the supply of production plants, and dispense with importing energy".

He pointed out that "the decrease in energy supply hours comes due to the shortage of associated gas," noting that "it is assumed that the processing will be carried out with 28 million cubic liters of associated gas, while the current supply reaches from 8 to 9 million only, and sometimes it will decrease to 6 to 7 million Cubic liters, due to Iran's supply of gas to its citizens and its inability to provide the required amount. "

He pointed out that "there is a significant decrease in the percentage of gas associated with the generation of electrical energy in the Sadr gas station, the Jerusalem gas station, the Basmaya gas station, and the Mansourieh station, due to the impact of these stations on the lack of supplies, in addition to a decrease in energy production at the Rumaila gas station and the Rumaila investment station , The Shatt al-Basra gas station, and the Al-Khor station, to about 1,200 mica due to the weak supply of associated gas from Iran. "

He added that "the reason for the decrease in the supply of electrical energy greatly, is the loss of a plant with the protection of 1200 megawatts of its generation, while the stations of Al-Sadr, Al-Quds and Al-Mansuriyah are considered to be semi-suspended, which negatively affected the hours of supply."

Baghdad / news

The official spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, Ahmad Al-Abadi, announced that Iran has reduced the exports of gas operating power stations in Iraq to 3 million cubic feet out of the agreed amount of 25 million cubic feet.

Al-Abadi said, in a press statement, that "the problem of low electricity supply has now affected the provinces of Baghdad, Babil, Karbala, Najaf and Diwaniya due to the low pressure of Iranian gas, which affected the production of the stations that depend on it for their operation, and that the Iranian side is currently pumping approximately 3 million cubic feet of the quantity Agreed upon amounting to 25 million cubic feet. "

He explained that "the Ministry of Electricity, through the crisis cell formed to overcome the problem of low gas pumping, was held in the presence of the Minister of Electricity and adviser to the Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and the ministries of oil and finance to search for alternative fuel sources and prepare the Ministry of Oil to fill the shortfall in generation stations, as pressure may continue to decrease. For longer periods of time, and every year, this decrease occurs, but this year has occurred with greater levels and greater levels of reduction than every year. ”

He stated that "among the accelerated measures to overcome the problem of fuel supplied to electrical stations is the authorization of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Oil to approve the conduct of the fifth licensing round regarding the development of Iraqi gas fields because their rehabilitation will contribute to the supply of electrical stations with associated gas."

Iraq suffers a lot from the problem of low production of electric energy and works according to the programmed cutting system to supply the people with electrical energy for several hours a day, while the people resort to buying electrical energy from private stations to fill the lack of supply, especially in the summer where temperatures rise to high levels.
