An explosion of gas pipes causes a huge fire in Al-Haritha station in Basra and stops the supply of electricity

A gas pipeline exploded near Basra in southern Iraq on Wednesday, disrupting supplies to a local power plant but did not affect gas or oil production, oil ministry and police officials said.

A police source said it appeared that a technical defect caused by high temperatures in the summer caused the explosion in the Hartha, 10 km north of Basra.

Civil defense officials said the pumping of gas to the plant had been stopped and the resulting fire was extinguished.

Iraq's electricity sector suffers longer-than-normal interruptions during the hot summer months due to increased loads on the country's power grid.

Most of Iraq's oil exports, the second largest producer in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), come from Basra.

Iraq currently produces below its production capacity of about 5 million barrels per day.

MP Alia Nassif, on Saturday, criticized the electricity minister's talk through the media about fictitious achievements, noting that if the current electricity production is 19,500 megawatts, the supply hours should be 22 hours a day because the minister announced days ago that Iraq needs 22 thousand MW to become 24 hours supply, while the supply hours currently does not exceed 13 hours.
Nassif said in a statement received by Mawazine News that Loay Al-Khatib talked about fictitious achievements in the program (outside the box) as if he were laughing at the minds of the people and underestimating the regulators. Last year reached 17,500 megawatts and the demonstrations in Basra regarding the electricity sector stopped since the sixth month of last year, which was mainly caused by the Iranian lines stopped processing and cut them from the Iranian side. One W Basra. "
Nassif added: "Hundreds of megawatts have been entered from the Rumaila investment station for the investor Ali Shamara, a contract signed and implemented by former ministers and not the current minister. On the other hand, 1500 megawatts are imported from Iranian lines, and Iran has been careful not to decrease this year because of the blockade.
The MP pointed out that "Bismayah plant has been operated for the investor Ahmed Ismail at full capacity and produces three thousand megawatts, which means an increase of about a thousand from last year, and the current minister is not related to this increase, of course, also entered the station Qayyarah, which produces 750 megawatts, which was signed rehabilitation contract In the time of the former minister, not the current one. "
Nassif added that the gas pipelines supplied to the plants and imported from Iran have been operating at full capacity after the gas pressure was very low during the past years but increased due to the blockade as well. The contracts of these pipelines, whether in the center or the south, were signed and implemented in the time of the former ministers and not the current minister. Previous data. "
She continued: "We tell the preacher that your words are inaccurate and was supposed to be this summer without interruption to all areas of Iraq, especially at night with the temperature drop to 30 degrees Celsius, Vkmak fraud and laughter on the minds of people and you better not to talk about fake achievements while your achievements do not exceed zero until Now. Everything hinges on the will power of the protestors, they have the GOI on the ropes right now but need to continue until this bunch of thieves are jailed an a new PM and government is installed...
