Iraq completes linking energy with Iran and holds similar talks with three countries

The warning came during a visit of the Assistant Secretary of Treasury for the fight against the financing of terrorism, Marshall Billingsley , to Baghdad and his meeting with the three presidencies in the country, they were informed of the work to expel the Iranian banks (“Percian” and “Melli Iran”) and stop banking and monetary transaction with them, and the need to liquidate the Bank of Iraq, which is subject to US sanctions, against the background of the transfer of suspicious funds to the Lebanese Hezbollah.
Billingsley, when he met with the finance minister and the governor of the Iraqi central bank, they were told that the Iraqi funds “oil revenues” kept by the DFI Fund and transferred to Iraq each year worth 8 billion dollars in the form of cash that their value will be reduced to an unknown number”

The main goal of US sanctions on Iran is to asphyxiates their economy.

US don’t want more hard currency going to Iran... They already told the CBI

IF iraq is planning to Increase the dinar exchange rate in the near future. US is not going to let Iraq pay Iran in dinars, because this will give oxygen to their economy

Scenario1

- iran is getting paid in euros instead of dinars.

Scenario 2

- iran is getting paid in dinars because iraq is not planning to increase the dinar exchange rate in the near future.

Scenario 3

- No RV till Iran Regime and interventionist in the ME ends.

just my opinion.

A couple of things that are not apparent in this article.  Of the 50% that they paid with still another 50% due how much of that WAS paid in dinar and how much WAS paid in Euro.  I would bet dollars to donuts that Pompeo told them to pay as LITTLE as possible in dinar.  Also how much was actually due to Iran?????  And will Iran change the goal post insisting that Iraq still owes them after they paid the balance.  If they paid 1% in dinar and 99% in Euro that still would not give Iran much when an RV occurs.

Just my :twocents: and something to think about.

A Hebrew website claimed that Iranian-US negotiations were being held behind the scenes, with the aim of reaching an agreement between the two parties.

The Israeli news website "Netscape Net," that "Iraq will be an important link between the two countries, Iran and the United States of America, to work to sign a preliminary agreement between them."

The Hebrew website said that "the agreement between them requires the administration of the United States of Iran to sell large quantities of oil in exchange for allowing Tehran to buy goods, through Iraq itself, meaning that Iran will not transfer funds directly from Iraq or from the countries importing Iranian oil."

The Hebrew site claimed that it was quoted by an Iraqi official source that "the talks are not yet completed because of the final incompatibility of some points, or that this agreement in its early stages, which requires US control over the amount of Iranian oil exported, as well as the type of goods that Iran wants to import, Not to receive Tehran oil money, directly. "

The Hebrew website said that " Iran has proposed that one of the European countries is to buy oil directly, but Washington rejected this proposal
"The initial agreement, or proposal, is based on the oil-for-food plan, which resembled the 1995 Iraqagreement when sanctions were imposed on Saddam Hussein's former regime after his occupation of Kuwait in 1990," the website said.

The Hebrew site claimed that "there is a proposal to open a bank account for Iran in Iraq to transfer funds to sell Iranian oil," adding that "this proposal appears to be one of the foundations of the agreement between Iran and America."

It is noteworthy that the rhetoric and verbal skirmishes have escalated recently, and increased tension between Iran and the United States, and growing concern about the outbreak of a potential conflict, at a time when Washington stressesSanctions and political pressure on Tehran and intensifies its military presence in the region.

The United States sent military reinforcements to the Middle East, including an aircraft carrier, B-52 bombers and Patriot missiles, in a show of force in the face of what US officials say is Iranian threats to US forces and interests in the region.

 11 June 2019 01:09 PM

Direct: The Iraqi Minister of Electricity Luay Khatib, the lack of adequate electricity supply to some areas due to the existence of problems in the transmission and distribution lines .

Al-Khatib said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency (INA) on Tuesday that the amount of electricity produced in Iraq is sufficient to provide a minimum of 20 hours per day for most of the country's provinces, but the problem lies in transmission and distribution lines and not production.

He explained that the war on terror affected the system, destroying 25 percent of production capacity, 18 percent of the transmission lines along with distribution networks that were destroyed in four provinces, which weighed heavily on the system in general .

He added that the problems of transport and distribution needs to infrastructure and large civil work, noting that the establishment of smart networks for the country from north to south requires large amounts of up to about 20 billion dollars to develop distribution networks only.

%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%83%D9%87%D8%B1%D8%A8%D8%

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US general Electric Corp. is set to win a large share of billions of dollars in contracts to rebuild Iraq's electricity grid, reflecting a change in the way Baghdad plans to award contracts after the United States put pressure on the company, informed sources said.

In October, Iraq signed five-year "road map" agreements with Germany's General Electric and Siemens, under which Baghdad plans to pump about $ 14 billion to build new electricity and power lines, repair and repair, and then buy equipment to collect and exploit natural gas Of the Iraqi oil fields instead of burning it as is happening now.

When Iraq awarded Siemens a contract in April, Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi said the company was in a position to win most futures contracts.

But sources in contact with the three parties said Iraq had asked - under US pressure - from General Electric and Siemens to enter bids on contracts, and is expected to give Baghdad contracts to the two companies.

"The political pressure on the Iraqi government ... has pushed the government (former Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi) to change its plans and allow General Electric to join the process," an Iraqi electricity ministry official said.

"It was clear to us that Washington was not happy that Siemens would take over this huge deal alone without any opportunity for General Electric ... and discussions are under way to decide on medium and long-term contracts, which we expect to divide," the official said.

The Iraqi Electricity Ministry did not respond to requests for comment.

A State Department official confirmed that his country had pressed Iraq for General Electric. "Utilizing the innovative capabilities of US companies such as General Electric is a key element of our strategy to expand economic ties and increase foreign investment, and thus help rebuild Iraq," the official said.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, that Iraq will grant contracts in three stages over the next four years.

"It's not a winner that takes everything," one source said. "It's a continuous process and you have to work at all levels."

For decades, General Electric and Siemens have supplied Iraq with power plants and other electrical equipment. Many of these facilities need to be reformed and developed after years of war, which provides plenty of room for the two companies to work in Iraq.

Since October, General Electric has signed agreements to develop, maintain and rebuild facilities to increase power generation capacity by 5,000 megawatts, according to informed sources.

The Boston-based company was also involved as part of a road map to build two 750-megawatt power plants, the sources said.

For his part, a spokesman for General Electric "Iraq and General Electric in positive discussions to strengthen the electricity sector in the country." Last month, General Electric said a 125-megawatt turbine of the company's manufacture was being operated at the Jerusalem power plant in Iraq.

In turn, Siemens said it had taken "a major first step towards the actual implementation of the road map" when it signed an agreement with Iraq on April 30 that sets out projects, budgets and timeframes.

The agreement includes three contracts worth about 700 million euros for the construction of a new 500 megawatt power plant, the development of 40 gas turbines and the construction of new substations.

Security services in Basra were on high alert on Sunday after the circulation of an image of a leaflet with the slogan of Daesh on it calling for support for the protests

BAGHDAD: Iraq’s exclusion from US sanctions on Iran and allowing it to import gas and electricity will not ease the pressure on Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi’s government, Iraqi politicians and officials told Arab News on Sunday.
Mass demonstrations are planned for later this week in the Shiite-dominated southern provinces to protest about the lack of basic daily services including electricity and drinking water, high rates of unemployment and corruption in ministries and government departments, activists told Arab News.
Iranian energy and natural gas imports amount to about 4,000 megawatts per day, equivalent to 20 percent of Iraq’s total production.
The US three-month extension waiver allowing Iraq to import Iranian gas and electricity is expected to dampen some of the anger and give Abdul Mahdi’s government a chance to find more radical solutions to the electricity shortage caused by terrorist actions, lack of planning and government corruption over the past 15-16 years.
People in Basra plan to take to the streets on July 20, activists told Arab News.
“Unemployment, scarcity of electricity and potable water and corruption are all still in place and none have been addressed despite the fact we have been protesting every year,” Sheikh Raied Al-Fraijai, the head of Basra tribal council and one of the Basra’s key activists, told Arab News.
“We will demand the dismissal of Abdul Mahdi and his government,” he said.
Electricity supply from the national grid does not exceed a 12-hour-a-day average during the summer, when temperatures exceed 50 degrees Celsius. This is one of the most powerful engines of the demonstrations, which usually turn violent and lead to clashes between protesters and security forces.
Last summer demonstrations extended to most of the southern provinces and Baghdad. There were massive riots, especially in Basra and Amara, where government and party headquarters were set on fire, as well as the Iranian Consulate. At least 22 demonstrators and security personal were killed.
Controlling the demonstrations and preventing Iraqi political forces from exploiting them is one of the challenges facing both local governments and activists.
Security services in Basra were on high alert on Sunday after the circulation of an image of a leaflet with the slogan of Daesh on it calling for support for the protests and inciting demonstrators to attack members of the “Savage army,” a term used by Daesh to describe the Iraqi army.
“This game (the circulation of the leaflet) aims to give the necessary cover for the local government in Basra to target us,” an activist told Arab News.
“Now they (local officials) have a good pretext to come after us. They can easily say that we are belong to Daesh or just say these are aimed to provide the cover for sabotage and targeting security forces.”

Ge and Siemens have problem list

Hussein Thogb

The patient usually looks for the appropriate treatment of a professional doctor and has the tools of accurate diagnosis that enables him to stand up to the problem of health "bug", and this is a method of dodge and find millions of people beyond the health problems and complex, after taking the treatment described by the best doctors.
In Iraq, we have a chronic illness that is exhausting the family, but making the relationship between the citizen and the summer worse. The cause of the disease in the country's electricity sector, which has become chronic, despite the large volume of spending and the simplicity of the disease, the suffering is large and affects all aspects of life.
When we look at the problem of the electricity sector, we do not find it complex and intractable, especially with the presence of the largest doctors in the world in Iraq and they have jobs in different provinces. Here we mean the giants of the electric power industry, "General Electric" and "Siemens," who have real solutions can return the electricity sector to His best.
"Why do we have a shortage of power production under General Electric and Siemens?"
And here we stand at the possibility that the competition between the giants of this industry has adversely affected the reality of performance and did not address this problem, which does not require a long time, as these companies have technology that helps to produce energy, and relying on several types of fuel, and not limit the work in Certain fuel is a justification for production delays.
There are many solutions that can be the key to the development of the electricity production sector, as the Ministry of Electricity can begin to create a state of competition between the major companies and the distribution of production tasks in the regions of Iraq, and here comes the role of proof of existence and the ability to achieve success within the specific location of the company and the provision of energy at international prices Per kilowatt.
It is inconceivable that a country or a city in the field of its work one of the above two companies have a problem in electricity, and if it happens there is a defect that must be addressed, because it is not reasonable to stand these companies are unable to solve the problem of electricity in Iraq, which has all the components of solving the problem Lack of electricity production.
Everyone is demanding to benefit from regional and international experiences in this field, and that the processing at affordable prices and the same that depend in neighboring countries, such as Egypt, for example.
We hope that both companies will provide quick solutions, not promises. Everyone wants to see an improvement in the performance of the electrical power system. This is not impossible. It is possible for large companies capable of producing electrical power for our large home.
