A Barzani goes to Baghdad.

Sounds like a sequel to a bad movie 🎥 to me.

A Barzani of one kind or another has visited Baghdad to many times to count over the years and nothing has happened.

Sorry. I just can’t get excited about this latest trip.

Hope something does change but not holding my breath.

Federal Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi, received by the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government pleased Barzani yesterday (the site «Radao»)
Baghdad: Hamza Mustafa
Recently exchanged former Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, with the former President of the Kurdistan region Massoud Barzani, congratulatory cables on the occasion of re-election as Secretary-General of the «Dawa Party». The breakthrough in the relationship between the two men after the fiasco of most of the years of change after 2003 was achieved only after the anger of the Kurds, especially Massoud Barzani, on the former Prime Minister Haider Abadi, who «imposed the law in Kirkuk», as seen by the deputy head of «Turkmen Front» Hassan Turan, in his speech to «Middle East», after the events of 16 - 10 - 2017, which is not forgotten by Barzani Abadi, which was an introduction to the return of water to the streams between Barzani and Maliki.
When Maliki was prime minister (2006-2014), the relationship between the two men was either tense, and on one page it reached the edge of the war when the two armies (the Iraqi army and the Peshmerga) were facing the Tuzhurmato in 2013 or inertia. The result of this tension or stalemate in the relationship is the survival of outstanding files. After 2014, Massoud Barzani was no longer president of the Kurdistan region while retaining his position as leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, even two months ago, when his nephew, Barzani, was elected president of the region.
After 2014, Maliki was unable to get a third term. Abadi, who was also unable to get a second term in 2018, came because of different positions, including the position of the Kurds, especially Massoud Barzani, rejecting him. That was enough to pave the way for the arrival of a prime minister who is described as a close friend of the Kurds, Adel Abdul Mahdi. But Abdul Mahdi, who belongs to the generation of the elderly Iraqi leaders such as Massoud Barzani, Nouri al-Maliki and Iyad Allawi and Haidar Abadi should deal with a young generation of Kurdish leaders; Nigirvan Barzani, the President of the region, who visited Baghdad about a month ago, while today comes pleased Barzani trying The dismantling of old files inherited from the era of the great leaders who were allies in the opposition, opponents of power.
Mezror Barzani met with senior officials in Baghdad, as usual discussed the most important concerns of the parties among the many files; some inherited and difficult to resolve in a session or two, and some compressor such as the issue of oil exports from the region against the budget and salaries of regional employees, as well as the issue of Kirkuk and the problems that escalated recently because The choice of the governor, and attempts to return «Peshmerga», after the plan to impose the law applied by Abbadi days was prime minister.
In a series of meetings held by Barzani with Barham Salih, ministers Adel Abdul Mahdi and Parliament Mohamed Halbusi, repeated the same protocol on the importance of resolving the differences between the parties and the end of the page of the past. The presidential statement issued stated that during the meeting, "discussions were held on the developments of the political situation at the regional and international levels." "The importance of coordinating common visions and adopting the language of constructive dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues between the federal government and the territorial government in accordance with the constitution, the national interest and the achievement of justice," he said, expressing his confidence in achieving consensus among political parties to improve relations and Services for the Iraqi people ».
For his part, expressed pleasure Barzani, «the desire of his government to intensify dialogues and resort to the Constitution, so as to achieve common interests and strengthen fraternal relations».
Dr. Vian Sabri, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party bloc in the Iraqi parliament, told Asharq Al-Awsat that "the position of the KDP from all current developments is what President Massoud Barzani recently expressed." "We see that Kirkuk is the city of peaceful coexistence, and the only way to solve its problems must be within the framework of the constitution and the return of Kirkuk to its former conditions," she said. "We must take advantage of the positive atmosphere in the relationship between Arbil and Baghdad, And that any agreement between the Kurdish parties should not be seen except in terms of positive, and that the consensus between the Kurds and the other parties and components in the political equation of Kirkuk and Baghdad is the road map, which we all have to make it.
But Hassan Turan, deputy head of the Turkmen Front, warned of any measures that could be agreed between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government away from the desire of the people of Kirkuk, especially Turkmen. He said in a statement to «Middle East», «Any solution to Kirkuk, and repeat here what we said earlier through a deal at the expense of the people of Kirkuk, will not pass peacefully». He added: «We will not accept prejudice to what has been achieved in the operations of law enforcement and the dismantling of Kirkuk as stipulated by the Constitution through its management by its components and the uniqueness of one party to do so».
As for Shawan Daoudi, a member of the former Iraqi parliament for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, he said in a statement to Asharq Al-Awsat that "the delegation this time, starting from its formation, is different from previous delegations. It is a government delegation representing everyone, . He added: «Success with the federal government in Baghdad requires serious understandings, stressing that the government of Adel Abdul Mahdi is also like the Kurdistan government needs some kind of stability, which makes them need to support each other».
