US Central Command: War with Iran is not in our interest
{International: Euphrates News} CENTCOM believes that it is not in the interest of the United States to create a new Middle East conflict, but is ready to defend its interests.
"We do not see any interest in a new Middle East conflict and we will defend our interests, but the war with Iran is not in our strategic interest, and it is not in the interests of the international community," the Central Command's press office said in a statement.
The statement also noted that the United States, in cooperation with its partners in the region, "will take all necessary measures to defend itself and its interests."
"The attacks on the oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman, which took place on Thursday, pose a clear danger to international freedom of navigation and freedom of trade," he said, adding that the United States and the international community were ready to defend our interests, including freedom of navigation.
The US Central Command said the USS MASON rocket was heading to the location of two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman to provide necessary assistance.
Iranian and Arab media reported Thursday that the oil tankers Front Altair and Kokuka Courageous were attacked in the Gulf of Oman. Some information indicates that the attack was carried out using torpedoes, resulting in explosions and fires on board the vessels. But there are no official assurances in this regard. The two crews were evacuated to Iranian territory.
For his part, owner of the tanker "Front Altair" that 11 Russian citizens were aboard his ship, noting that none of them were injured in the incident.
The US administration blamed Iran for the incident in the Gulf of Oman.
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that the US administration's allegations against Iran about the Gulf of Oman attacks are without evidence and show that the policy of sabotage has become an alternative plan adopted by some parties.
Zarif wrote in Twitter: "The United States immediately put allegations against Iran without evidence, about the Gulf of Oman attacks, shows that the Bolton, Ben Zayed, Ben Salman and Benjamin Netanyahu move to the alternative plan, the diplomacy of sabotage."
"I warned against this scenario exactly a few months ago, not because I'm a clairvoyant, but because I know where the team comes from (Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, American John Bolton}

Putin: Washington's withdrawal from the nuclear agreement destabilizes the region

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the United States' withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Iran is destabilizing the region and could undermine the nuclear nonproliferation regime.

"In our capacity as (Russia) President of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), we mean achieving the fulfillment of commitments by the participants in the Comprehensive Action Plan, and we consider this to be the only logical and correct way," Putin said during a speech at the meeting of heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Kyrgyzstan.

The SCO summit in Bishkek is expected to issue a statement on the further development of the Organization and confirmation of the positions of Member States on regional and international issues.

The eight member states of the Shanghai Organization include India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Four States, Mongolia, Iran, Afghanistan and Belarus, had observer status. There are six dialogue partners with the Organization, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia and Nepal.

On Friday, Putin arrived at the Ala Arca Palace in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek to join the meeting of heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Trump: Ready to hold talks with Iran
US President Donald Trump said on Friday he was ready to hold talks with Iran when it was ready, even though Tehran claimed responsibility for the attack on two oil carriers in the Gulf of Oman.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said: "We want to bring them back to the negotiating table. I am ready when they are ready. I am not in a hurry."
Thursday's attacks raised questions about navigation across the Strait of Hormuz, a major shipping corridor and steps the United States could take to protect the area, and US officials said their country would defend its interests.
"They will not close it, it will not close, it will not be closed for a long time," Trump said.
The Trump administration blamed the attacks on Iran, based on a videotape of a US aircraft showing what it said was a patrol of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in boats approaching one of the two carriers near the Strait of Hormuz after the blasts and removing an unexploded ordnance.

Iraq guarantees a new extension of 90 days to import Iranian energy after negotiations with Washington

Political | 12:38 - 15/06/2019

BAGHDAD (Reuters) -
The United States renewed for the third time an extension of Iraq's 90-day exemption from sanctions it has imposed on Iran, which allows it to import electricity and gas on which it relies heavily, especially in the hot summer of the country.
"Iraq is part of a 90-day extension to import Iranian energy after long negotiations with the United States until the last days before the expiry of the deadline," a senior Iraqi government official close to the talks said.
This comes after the escalation of the crisis between Washington and Tehran in the Gulf, both of which have strong relations with Baghdad.
Exemption is vital for Iraq, which is located in a hot thermal zone, where temperatures this year exceed seasonal levels, increasing electricity consumption and fearing renewed protests against the lack of public services starting early in the summer.
Washington has re-imposed sanctions on Iran's energy sector in November after it pulled out of a nuclear deal signed between the superpowers and Tehran in 2018.
A power shortage that often leaves homes without electricity for up to 20 hours a day is a key factor behind weeks of protests Iraq in the summer.
To overcome this shortfall, Iraq imports up to 28 million cubic meters of natural gas from Tehran to its factories and directly buys 1,300 megawatts of Iranian electricity.
This dependence is uncomfortable for the United States, which sought to curtail Tehran's influence and re-impose sanctions on Iranian financial institutions, shipping lines, the energy sector and petroleum products.

South Korea halted all imports of crude oil from Iran in May, with exceptions to US sanctions on Iran at the beginning of last month, according to data from the Korea Customs Authority.

South Korea, the world's fifth largest importer of crude oil, was among the six-month-old countries granted by the United States in November last year and resumed imports of Iranian oil from January this year after a four-month hiatus.

South Korea's imports of Iranian crude oil from January to May reached 3.87 million tons, or 187,179 barrels per day, compared to 5.45 million tons in the same period last year, customs data showed.

South Korean oil buyers mainly imported condensates from Iran.

SKInnovation, which owns SK Energy, South Korea's largest oil refinery and SK Incheon Petrochemicals, said in late May it had replaced Iran's crude oil with other sources, including Qatar and Russia.

South Korea's total imports of crude oil fell 11.1 percent to 11.27 million tonnes, or 2.65 million bpd.

The data showed a rise in oil shipments from Saudi Arabia, the largest supplier of crude oil to South Korea, by 5.1 percent to 3.39 million tons or 798695 barrels per day compared with the previous year. Crude oil imports from Qatar rose 10.1 percent year-on-year to 660,752 tonnes or 155,596 barrels per day.

South Korea also imported 1.43 million tons of crude oil in May from the United States, three times more than the previous year's 405,158 tons, the data said. South Korea's crude oil imports from January to May rose 0.3 percent to 61.17 million tonnes year-on-year. The state-run Korea National Oil Company (CNPC) will publish final data on the country's imports of crude oil later this month.

The Western Times is looking into plans to deploy troops to protect civilian ships in the region following the incident of targeting the two carriers in the Gulf of Oman, The Times reported.

The newspaper quoted Western officials as saying that talks on a possible quick response to the latest incident should be completed, pointing out that the investigation should be completed despite their conviction that Iran was behind the second incident in a month.

At the same time, officials stressed the need to take measures to protect oil tankers and other civilian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic international maritime corridor and the most important artery for the export of oil in the world.

"The challenge is to reach a consensus on how this can be achieved between Britain, other European partners, the United States, Gulf allies, Japan, Norway and any other interested party," one official said.

Norway, Japan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE have been hit by the two incidents over the past five weeks, with China, India and South Korea being the biggest importers of Gulf crude.

Many of the countries affected by the recent events have had a permanent maritime naval presence in the Gulf region with a series of maritime bases in the Arabian Peninsula, but the problem lies in identifying a neutral entity that allies can join under joint protection.

The United Nations International Maritime Organization (IMO) may play this role, but it may lack political influence.

The United States and Britain have blamed Iran for the latest incident, while Tehran has strongly rejected the accusations.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) -
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has asked Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi about protecting US interests, a government source said on Saturday.
"Bombay asked Abdul Mahdi, can you prevent missiles that threaten the US embassy or US soldiers in the military bases, can you prevent any future attack, and what is the ability to ensure that?"
He added that "Abdul-Mahdi gave assurances to Pompeo about Baghdad's commitment to protect diplomatic missions and the interests of friendly countries, and to prevent any aggression," in reference to the commitment of factions of the popular crowd by the decision of the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and not to go out. ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The United States has granted Iraq an extension to a sanction’s waiver for the import of energy from neighboring Iran days ahead of a looming deadline of the original agreement.

On Saturday, the US State Department said it had given Iraq a four-month extension, but encouraged the federal government in Baghdad to seek alternative sources of energy.

“An additional 120-day waiver was granted to allow Iraq to continue to pay for electricity imports from Iran,” the State Department said in an emailed statement to Reuters.

It also called on Iraq to “[diversify] energy imports away from Iran.

Iraq relies heavily on Iranian gas to feed several power stations, importing roughly 1.5 billion standard cubic feet per day via pipelines in the south and east.

Washington cracked down on Iran’s oil sector in November, re-imposing a set of sanctions to curtail Tehran’s nuclear program and its influence in several conflicts across the Middle East.

With the sanctions, the US also prohibited other countries from dealing with Iran or purchasing its energy.

In March, the US granted Iraq a 90-day waiver exempting it from sanctions to buy energy from Iran, allowing Baghdad to keep purchasing electricity from its neighbor.

Earlier in the week, the Iraqi Council of Economy and Investment warned of a pending energy crisis in the country if gas imports from Tehran come to a halt amid the ongoing tensions between the US and Iran.

“Iraq is already facing security, economic, and political strains. Any additional energy crisis will hinder Iraq crippled,” Nada Shakr, a member of Iraq’s economy and investment council, stated.

I was thinking about this, normally if a country wants to cripple its enemy, Iran/USA, first  normally is take out electricity, With Iraq receiving Electricity from Iran, Do I think we are going to bomb the hell out of Iran? Probably not, but in this day and time ,,Who Knows? Kind of why I think we are just showing muscle, not saying this wont happen at all. Seems the MSM is working over time, announcing WW 3. Really makes you wonder if anyone knows how much wealth Iraq has? Guess we will see!

Rhona, thanks for your input,

Before RV scenario:

Lets say iraq owed $10 million dollars to Iran for electricity imports.

$10,000,000  X 1190 IQD rate = 11.9 Billion IQD they have to pay to Iran.

Then the dinar RV $1:1

Iran will get $11.9 billion dollars instead of $10,000,000

After RV scenario:

RV $1:1

Lets say iraq owed $10 million dollars to Iran for electricity imports

Iran will get 10,000,000 IQD = $10,000,000

It will make no difference after $1:1 RV

I hope this help

US exempts Iraq from oil-trade sanctions with Iran for three more months

Iranian oil

The United States has allowed Iraq to import Iranian gas for its power grid for another three months by extending a waiver to sanctions - but insists that Baghdad seek alternative sources.

Iraq has had several extensions to the waiver first granted last year after Washington reimposed sanctions on Tehran's oil sector forbidding countries from purchasing Iranian energy.

"An additional 120-day waiver was granted to allow Iraq to continue to pay for electricity imports from Iran," the US State Department said in an emailed statement.

An Iraqi government source said the extension was given during a phone call between Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The State Department said the United States continued to insist on "diversifying energy imports away from Iran," however.

President Donald Trump's administration has said oil-rich Iraq must become more self-reliant for its electricity, including by harnessing gas energy and reducing flaring at oil production sites.

US energy giant General Electric is in the running to win a large share of multibillion-dollar contracts to rebuild Iraq's electricity system amid intense US lobbying efforts.

Washington reimposed sanctions on Iran's oil industry in November, citing concerns about its nuclear program and what it said was its meddling in the Middle East.

Iraqi officials have said they might need years to wean the country of Iranian power.

Iraq relies heavily on Iranian gas to feed several power stations, importing roughly 1.5 billion standard cubic feet per day via pipelines in the south and east.

Washington wants to roll back Iranian influence in the Middle East, including in Iraq, where Tehran holds broad sway over politics and trade.

Although Iraq has one of the world's largest natural gas reserves, it has moved slowly to develop them and has relied on Iran to supply it with gas and electricity.

For the third time, the United States renewed Iraq's 90-day exemption from sanctions imposed on Iran, allowing the Arab state to import electricity and gas from Iran.

A senior Iraqi government official close to the negotiations told the Iraqi news agency "INA" on Saturday that Iraq included a new extension of 90 days to import Iranian energy after long negotiations with the United States until the last days before the expiration of the grace period.

Exemption is vital for Iraq, which is located in a hot thermal zone, where temperatures this year exceed seasonal levels, increasing electricity consumption and fearing renewed protests against the lack of public services starting early in the summer.

Last year, the United States decided to withdraw from Iran's nuclear deal and re-impose economic sanctions on Tehran's regime before giving temporary permission to some countries to import oil, gas and electricity from Iran for a limited period.

KUWAIT: The Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the United Nations reiterated his country's condemnation of the criminal acts in the Arabian Gulf of attacking ships and tankers and demanding that they be investigated.

"Kuwait has strongly condemned on more than one occasion and on several levels of criminal activity in the Arabian Gulf, " Ambassador Mansour al-Otaibi said in response to KUNA's question about Kuwait's position in its non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council on recent attacks .

Al-Otaibi stressed Kuwait's demand to stop the investigation and investigate the two recent incidents and take the necessary measures to protect the waterways and hold those responsible responsible for these criminal acts accountable.

It also renewed Kuwait's view of such attacks as a flagrant violation of international law and a serious threat to the safety of maritime navigation in this vital region of the world.

Al-Otaibi stressed Kuwait's support and support to discuss this issue in the Security Council and to keep it under consideration.

In the light of Kuwait's assumption of the rotating presidency of the Security Council, members of the UN body unanimously condemned the attack on the oil carriers in the Gulf of Oman last Thursday, calling the event a violation of international law and criminal act.

Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khalid al-Hamad al-Sabah also condemned the targeting of two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman.

A Norwegian oil tanker and a ship owned by Singapore were attacked in the Sea of Oman last Thursday , a month after explosions that damaged three tankers and a ship off the coast of the UAE.

Russian President Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday that allegations against Iran over the Gulf of Oman were "difficult to take into account."

"We have not forgotten the white powder tubes (shown by US Secretary of State Colin Powell in 2003 at the UN Security Council as evidence that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction, which was not confirmed later) ," Piskov told Russian media ,

Remember that. We have therefore learned to be limited in our assessments and continue to urge a realistic assessment of the situation and to wait for some convincing data to emerge. And to point out that these data is ridiculous. "

"Such incidents are truly capable of shaking the foundations of the global economy, and therefore, unfounded accusations can not be taken into account," the Russian spokesman said.

Two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman were attacked on Thursday morning as shipments from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were in an attack threatening oil supplies to the world, with 30 percent of the world's oil passing through the Gulf of Oman. Finished 25 s

BAGHDAD (
Reuters) - US Nationalist magazine reported on Sunday that attacking Iran would unleash chaos in the Middle East.

"Ideologists such as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and John Bolton, the adviser to President Donald Trump, are invoking the escalation against Iran with concerns about the nuclear program," she said.
