BAGHDAD (Reuters) -
The US Air Force's central forces announced on Saturday that there were no plans to evacuate any staff from Iraq's Balad base.
"To refute the wrongful claims that US forces are evacuating contractors or any other members of the Balad air base in Iraq, these allegations are absolutely wrong," said Col. Kevin Walker, director of troop protection.
Walker added that "there are no plans at this time to evacuate any individual from a country," pointing out that "always assess the safety and security of all members of the Air Force and those who provide services to the US Air Force."
"If there are more threats to our personnel, the US Air Force will put in place the necessary measures to provide the necessary protection."

Great thread....diverse ideas and opinions.....part of the value added concept of the site...

No war is always best.....the reasoning isn't that important....the idea is a non violent solution was found...and that's where this is today.....

This all goes so far beyond Trump......just look at the history of Iran in the region....heck......Iraq and Iran have been going at it for hundreds of years.....the whole ME has been unstable for a very long time.....

Oil/energy is the only reason the rest of the world has tolerated ME discord......(add the Shite...Sunni secular religious rifts.....throw in the Kurds.....just a mess).....

The US/World is becoming less dependent on ME oil.....for any number of reasons.....so perhaps the US  needs to step back......and let them work their own problems out.....let them drag China down....right along with NOKO....

For those expressing your distaste for Trump......that's alright......so many have fought and died for you to have that right.......might I ask?.....who are you going to support in 2020?.......and with that let me suggest IMO there is only one candidate of the 25 or so that I would support....I'll leave a link at the bottom.

So no war or killing today....that is a good thing...perhaps Trump realized he was being set up by the war mongering machine within the US.....perhaps he has a heart.....?

Who knows?........I do know he is our President.....duly elected....and until he is voted out......he is in control by definition as the Commander in Chief.......he has my prayers and support.....nope....I don't always agree with him.....but to any who want him fail.....think about it.....he fails......the country fails........seems just that simple to me.....

If you want change......you'll have your chance in 2020....

US forces prepare to evacuate contractors from Iraqi base

TIKRIT, Iraq: US forces are preparing to evacuate hundreds of staff working for Lockheed Martin Corp. and Sallyport Global from an Iraqi military base where they work as contractors, three Iraqi military sources said on Friday.
Nearly 400 contractors from the two firms were getting ready to leave Balad military base, which hosts US forces some 80 km (50 miles) north of Baghdad, over “potential security threats.” Their departure was imminent, the sources said.
The sources did not give any details about the security threats.
The sprawling Balad base was hit by three mortar shells last week. No one claimed responsibility for the attack.
The US military informed Iraqi officials that they would begin evacuating about half of the 800 employees who work for both companies at Balad, said a military official with knowledge of the base’s daily operations.
The official said the evacuation would take about 10 days.
Two other military sources said the evacuation would take place in two stages and would be carried out by military aircraft.
“Americans informed us that they will only keep limited, necessary staff who work closely on the maintenance of Iraqi F-16 war planes.” Lockheed Martin began delivering the first F-16s to Iraq in 2014.
The sources said the evacuation could start at any moment.
Two other Iraqi bases hosting US forces have been hit by rockets in the past week in unclaimed attacks. On Wednesday, a rocket attack hit near a site used by US energy company Exxon Mobil near the southern city of Basra.
Local officials blamed Iran-backed Shiite militias for the Basra incident. Iran has not commented on the Iraq incidents but has strongly rejected accusations by Washington that it was behind several attacks on oil tankers in the Gulf in recent weeks.
The uptick in violence comes amid rising regional tension between the United States and Iran.
Washington has ramped up sanctions pressure on Tehran since last year and several violent incidents in the Gulf have been blamed on the rising tension.
President Donald Trump on Friday said he had called off a US strike on Iran at the last minute.
In Iraq, Iran backs several Shiite Muslim militias which have positions close to US military installations.
Those militias have not publicly commented on the recent incidents.
Sunni extremist group Islamic State is also trying to stage a comeback in Iraq and has mostly used hit-and-run insurgency tactics against Iraqi forces in recent months.

Iraq boosts security measures at base where US trainers stay

By QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA
Associated Press

BAGHDAD -- Security measures were increased at one of Iraq's largest air bases that houses American trainers following an attack last week, a top Iraqi air force commander said Saturday. The U.S. military said operations at the base were going on as usual and there were currently no plans to evacuate personnel.

The stepped-up Iraqi security measures at Balad air base, just north of the capital, Baghdad, come amid sharply rising tensions in the Middle East between the United States and Iran.

The current regional crisis is rooted in the U.S. withdrawal last year from the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers. Washington subsequently re-imposed sanctions on Iran, sending its economy into freefall and cutting deeply into its oil exports.

Gen. Falah Fares told The Associated Press by telephone that the measures include a night-time curfew, boosting security inside and near the base as well as surveillance of nearby areas. He said these measures are being carried out in coordination with the U.S.

"All unnecessary movements have been reduced," Fares said, adding that the curfew now lasts from sunset until sunrise. He said the change was made after Balad air base, home to a squadron of Iraqi F-16 fighter jets, was hit with three mortar shells last week without inflicting casualties. The curfew had previously been from midnight to sunrise, he said.

Col. Kevin Walker, U.S. Air Forces Central Command Director of Force Protection, denied in a statement later Saturday reports that U.S. forces are evacuating contractors or any other personnel from Balad air base.

If any of the Democrats socialists wind up in power again the first thing they're going to do is start rounding up conservatives and Republicans. They are telling you what they are going to do, "if I'm elected president I will have Donald Trump arrested".

Anyone who thinks they're just going to stop with Donald Trump is just being foolish. The reason the left has become so unhinged and filled with hate is because they had a plan and conservatives, everyone that voted for Donald Trump, have all but destroyed that plan. They are filled with rage because it took them almost a hundred years to get to where they wanted to be. We are not fighting Democrats, we are fighting globalist who came real close to bring forth their Antichrist. That's what the left supports.

A strike on Iran could possibly light the entire Middle East on fire, similiar to Hell. Millions of lives would be affected, not just 150. Retaliation is not always the wise path to take, and I would add further sanctions would be much more effective and cost us no lives and no treasure. It won't just be Iran we end up in war with. A war would put the ME's oil on the chopping block for the best protector or aggressor. Much of ISIS's funding came from stealing Iraq's oil and selling it off to the first bidder. Iraq would become a free for all....again.

Choke their resources off, don't light them on fire. We are the most powerful military in the world and it's easy just to bomb the hell out of a country. Strategic plans and diplomacy are hard but it doesn't destroy a continent, kill millions through war or starvation, disrupt for decades energy supplies to much of the world, ad nauseum, and BTW, you will never see the IQD revalue. Iraq will be unstable for decades.

Just because we are the hammer, doesn't make everything a nail. Aggression is not always be the most intelligent way to go.

If we had struck Iran, can someone lead me to information on what the exit plan is. What happens when we strike, then Iran strikes back again? Iran, who is a bad, bad actor, does not trust the US any longer. They were adhering to the JCPOA and we cancelled it, so no one is talking. The dialogue has been closed. Where does it end? I think we have all seen that ME culture does not forget, forgive, or bend.

Sir: Aint no conspiracy theory. Fake unverified op dossier use to obtain warrants to spy on US citizens. Lying to FISA judges to get "spying warrants" . Actions taken outside of protocols of FBI, CIA, to spygate on presidential candidates, their staff. Abuse of cooperation protocols of other countries investigative agencies to setup/spy on Americans. Specifically Englands, Australias, and Italy. Exoneration of HRC before you even begin an investigation. Plus other violations of law we are not.aware of yet. So just you wait till the IG report comes out. If I am wrong, and I am not, I will apologise then.

You should stop watching CNN and MSNBC.

Saiba is threatening F-16 Iraq .. Why does Abdul Mahdi insist on Fatah

Al-Saiba is threatening F-16 Iraq .. Why does Abdul Mahdi insist on opening "the doors of their genie"?

After the eighth attack this year against US interests and presence in the country, the first consequences emerged from a possible US withdrawal from the air base of Balad , north of Baghdad, where the F-16s , the most prominent weapons of Iraqi forces to protect the country, sit amid warnings of more severe consequences In the absence of government action to "cut off the arms of Iran."

Iraqi security sources told Reuters on Saturday that US forces were preparing to evacuate hundreds of contractors from the air base of Balad because of "potential security threats," indicating that the evacuations will take place soon and in two phases, including about 400 US contractors working with Lockheed Martin and Sportport Global.

The move meant that the F-16 aircraft, completely out of 34 out of 36 purchased by Iraq, had been disrupted, two of which had been destroyed during training in the United States, the most important and most important weapon possessed by the Iraqi armed forces. Maintenance, training and provision of logistic services for takeoff and landing of aircraft.

The leader of the decision coalition, Athil al-Nujaifi, said today that "Iraq's wrong policy has lost the most important weapon it possesses to pursue terrorism." He said in a tweet via Twitter that "the evacuation of the United States to its experts at the base of Balad means the cessation of the takeoff of F-16s and the difficulty of pursuing terrorists in the mountains "And warned that Iraq is" moving towards the situation in 2014, "calling on the government to" review the mistakes before it is too late. "

But the US Central Command and the International Alliance hastened to deny that information, asserting that the Americans are still doing their work as a "natural form" at the base of air, while we announced the adoption of additional measures to protect the staff there after assessing the security conditions at the base, Measures. The joint operations command also denied , asserting the protection of military bases to "ensure the protection of Iraqi fighters and foreign advisers."

Security and military experts, however, have warned of "grave consequences and hell gates" that could open up to the country as a result of attacks by "Iran's arms in the country." The country is putting "in the wind" of regional and international conflicts, .

"The country lacked aerial cover when it occupied a large area of the country, prompting the government to request an international coalition to help it face the organization," said security analyst Ahmed al-Sharifi in an interview with "Ultra Iraq." Washington responded to that and redeployed troops in the country. The country with the pretext, "asserting that" the withdrawal of the Americans this time means the cessation of F-16 aircraft purchased by Iraq and the cessation of air support provided by the International Alliance. "

"This means opening the gates of hell to Iraq and putting it in the winds of regional and international conflicts that are falling like giant waves swinging the country like small wooden panels," he said. "He sees the country's supreme interest absent from the ideas of those in power." Those who see only their personal interests "Describing the country's political model as" illiterate. "

He also warned that the attacks on American interests in the country are "playing with fire," stressing that the company, "Exxon Mobil" America, which foiled a coup in Iran crossed with its interests about 70 years ago, "today able to upset the scales of the equation regionally and internationally in the case of tampering with their interests in Iraq".

The security analyst also warned of "bad days coming not only to stop F-16s but to open the gates of hell to the country, the first international demand for the debts of the country since the former regime and extension to the current system, which Washington is not activated and force Iraq to pay."

For his part, the military analyst Muayad al-Juhaishi was not more optimistic, as the attacks counted "clear Iranian messages to the United States through Iraqi territory, carried out by the arms known as the state factions within the popular crowd, 67 - 68 armed factions most prominent (Hezbollah Brigades, Asaib Ahl al-Haq , Nubaa) and others, "asserting that those factions" are not related in any way to the commander-in-chief of the armed forces except salaries paid by the government, while receiving instructions and training and arming from Iran. "

He accused al-Hajishi, Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, of "falling into the arms of Iran, despite the warnings issued by many Americans and others from it," stressing that the responsibility of the government "to protect US missions and military experts and others," while what is being an indication of " The absence of a state from the ground. "

He also pointed to the importance of the presence of the US team at the base of air to ensure the maintenance and maintenance of Iraqi F-16 aircraft, noting that "the Turks still today rely on the Americans to maintain their aircraft of the same type, despite the passage of 8 years of purchase and militarization with Americans for 40 years. "

The military expert explained that the withdrawal of US experts in the case of the base of the country, it means F-16 aircraft to convert large pieces of iron without any benefit, and give the "freedom" freedom of movement after the absence of chase in remote areas and desert provided by aircraft.

He also expressed his surprise at the "bias of the government toward Iran and its preference for the American ally," and likened it to "replacing" the highly sophisticated American technology, such as aircraft and vehicles, with the poor " Saiba " produced by Iran.

shareExperts accused the government of Abdul-Mahdi of "bowing to the arms of Iran" as "prefer Saipa" on the American technology is very sophisticated
On the other hand, Al-Juhaishi ruled out the withdrawal of American military units from positions stationed in the provinces of Nineveh and the withdrawal of experts and engineers, stressing that "Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi is able to prevent Iranian attacks against US interests, but does not want to."

Mahdi is able to prevent Iranian attacks against US interests, but does not want to."

Trump - AFP
Trump - AFP

Ruudau - Erbil

US President Donald Trump said on Saturday, June 22, 2019, that the military option against Iran is still on the table.

"We are working to impose more sanctions on Iran," Trump said.

"Additional sanctions on Iran are aimed at preventing them from acquiring nuclear weapons."

Tension between the United States and Iran, after the announcement on Thursday, dropped a US reconnaissance plane March. In response, US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Washington was about to strike Iran last night, but decided to stop it ahead of schedule 10 minutes to keep The lives of civilians.

The region is under growing tension from the United States and Gulf states on the one hand, and Iran on the other, by Tehran abandoning some of its commitments to the nuclear program (concluded in 2015) after Washington withdrew from it, as well as Saudi accusations of targeting oil facilities through the Yemeni Houthi group.

Baghdad

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States is not seeking a war with Iran but is ready to defend US forces and interests in the region and has the ability to respond strongly to any development of events, the Pentagon said on Saturday.

The Pentagon said in a statement that US forces have a large military capability and are ready to respond to any development in the region.

"Any Iranian attack on any aircraft flying in international airspace is a violation of international law and poses a threat to the safety of navigation," the Pentagon said.

This came after US President Donald Trump on Friday confirmed the authenticity of media reports that he had dropped at the last minute to hit Iranian targets, shortly after Tehran dropped a US reconnaissance plane.

In a series of Twitter tweets on his official Twitter account, Trump said: "On Monday, they dropped an unmanned dron aircraft flying over international waters."

He said he had stopped the attack on Tehran 10 minutes before it was launched after it learned it would kill 150 people.

He pointed out that the US military had intended to hit three different sites in Iran last night, without specifying their location or nature.

In a justification for his decision, the US president said the response was disproportionate to the downfall of an unmanned march aircraft, reiterating his firm stance on not allowing Iran to have a nuclear weapon by saying: "Iran can never acquire nuclear weapons."

He revealed that he was imposing tougher sanctions on Iran, without giving details, but stressed that Iran is now much weaker, compared to the beginning of his mandate, when it was making problems across the Middle East.

He stressed that he is not in a hurry to respond militarily to Iran, saying at the same time, "our army is ready and ready"

Washington - The
International Financial Action Task Force (IFF) has tackled the pressing challenges of Iran's deliberate failure to address the systemic shortcomings of money laundering, terrorist financing and nuclear proliferation, the State Department said on Monday.
A statement issued by the US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said yesterday that the International Financial Action Task Force called for an intensive supervision examination of branches of financial institutions based in Iran.
The statement said that Iran's persistent attempt to use deception to finance its illegal activities threatens the safety and security of the international financial system, calling on the international community to fulfill its obligations towards it.
He added that the International Financial Action Task Force had stressed its concern about the risks of terrorist financing emanating from Iran. He said that three years after Iran had committed itself to a work plan with the FATF, most of its necessary work remained incomplete and that Iran should ratify the Palermo and terrorist financing agreements in line with With the standards of the International Financial Working Group or face additional measures.

International Financial Action Task Force (IFF)

Who we are

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is an inter-governmental body established in 1989 by the Ministers of its Member jurisdictions.  The objectives of the FATF are to set standards and promote effective implementation of legal, regulatory and operational measures for combating money laundering, terrorist financing and other related threats to the integrity of the international financial system.  The FATF is therefore a “policy-making body” which works to generate the necessary political will to bring about national legislative and regulatory reforms in these areas.

The FATF has developed a series of Recommendations that are recognized as the international standard for combating of money laundering and the financing of terrorism and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.  They form the basis for a co-ordinated response to these threats to the integrity of the financial system and help ensure a level playing field.  First issued in 1990, the FATF Recommendations were revised in 1996, 2001, 2003 and most recently in 2012 to ensure that they remain up to date and relevant, and they are intended to be of universal application.

The FATF monitors the progress of its members in implementing necessary measures, reviews money laundering and terrorist financing techniques and counter-measures, and promotes the adoption and implementation of appropriate measures globally.  In collaboration with other international stakeholders, the FATF works to identify national-level vulnerabilities with the aim of protecting the international financial system from misuse.

The FATF's decision making body, the FATF Plenary, meets three times per year.
