blueskyline
Media: Bashir under house arrest and the arrest of leaders of the ruling party April 11, 2019 Regional News 1.0k 0 - 4.6K (Reuters) - Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir is under house arrest, media reports said on Thursday, as the armed forces said it would broadcast an important statement. It quoted sources as saying, arresting members of the leadership office of the ruling National Congress Party. While awaiting the "important" statement of the Sudanese army, the Sudanese trade unionist appealed to the protesters to march in front of the Ministry of Defense headquarters in downtown Khartoum on Thursday morning. Radio and Television announced that the Sudanese armed forces would issue an important statement early, following reports of army officers entering the headquarters in Omdurman. Witnesses said that military vehicles surrounded the radio and television building, which began to broadcast national songs, awaiting the statement that comes after months of protests against the rule of President Omar al-Bashir. Witnesses confirmed that hundreds of Sudanese have already begun to come to the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense, where thousands have been held since last Saturday after the failure of all security attempts to break the sit-in. The army has responded to security attempts, in a move observers considered aligning some officers of the military establishment along with the protesters who are demanding the departure of Bashir.
