Many cultures view the moon as important. It was considered important long before Islam. In the Bible the moon appears as the god Baal. In the Kabah the black rock contains a room with 360 gods and Baal is the number one god or the head honcho. They cover the rock because of this aspect of the Kabah. You find Islam stole a lot of things from both the New and Old Testaments to create Islam. American Indians also go by the moon as did many of the North and South American cultures went by the moon to tell certain aspects of the year. Early navigation was done at night and the moon also played a vital role. The moon (And the planet Venus, which was thought of a star early on. Venus appears in the sky at dusk which is what the symbol of Islam is the quarter moon and the planet Venus. Even today some think that Venus is a star as noted by Disney's song or the simple rhyme Star light star bright First star I See tonight) was hijacked by Islam. Go figure something else hijacked by Islam.
