President Donald J. Trump delivers remarks to the Venezuelan-American community at Florida International University | February 18, 2019

A crowd of Venezuelan Americans stood before President Donald J. Trump in Miami yesterday, cheering as he put America squarely on the side of those fighting for freedom. “We’re here to proclaim a new day is coming in Latin America,” he said. “In Venezuela and across the western hemisphere, socialism is dying and liberty, prosperity, and democracy are being reborn.”

His message to Nicolas Maduro: “Let your people go.”

American leadership is making the difference. The United States and more than 50 countries across the world have recognized the rightful government of Venezuela. “Within 30 minutes, the United States was proud to be the first nation in the world to recognize President [Juan] Guaido” as the country’s interim leader, President Trump said.

Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua offer a lesson to the world: Socialism always promises unity but delivers division and hatred. It promises a better future—and inevitably returns to the darkest chapters of the past. Not long ago, Venezuela was the richest country in South America. Today, after its tyrannical government nationalized industries and took over private business, nearly 90 percent of Venezuelans live in poverty.

Americans know this history well, having witnessed socialism destroy countries throughout the 20th century. Nearly three-fifths of Americans have an unfavorable view of socialism; a majority have a favorable view of capitalism. support for far-left schemes such as Medicare-for-All has plummeted as voters learn more about what’s in it. The extremist “Green New Deal” is beginning to suffer the same fate.

“We know that socialism is not about justice. It’s not about equality; it’s not about lifting up the poor,” President Trump said yesterday. “Socialism is about one thing only: power for the ruling class. And the more power they get, the more they crave . . . All of us here today know that there is nothing less democratic than socialism.”

It' is most surely un-perfect (socialism)........As are many forms of so-called traditional democracy......But things ( given the will to do so and given intellectual honesty and will to do good for the People) can be be improved.....

Scandinavian Countries Gov'ts  ( where social democracy has ruled for many many years, as People kept voting for it and NOT being forced to do so) were able  to compromise on many issues with excellent results.....Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland.....Not exactly poor Countries

Actually that kind of sounds like the corporations now running our government... If our politicians don't do what they are told, they don't get the campaign money next time around and they don't get re-elected... When I pay more income taxes than Amazon, there is something wrong.

People run from socialism when they run out of money, they come to the US and then want socialism. I guess the free hand outs are just too tempting kinda like drugs to a junky. The first hit is free and it costs your freedom with an addiction for life. Those people that want socialism not only distroy their own lives, also the ones around them.

I agree with you... But aren't corporations doing the same thing... If we don't give them a free ride they won't build the new Walmart or Amazon in town. If we ask for a living wage they leave the country for cheap labor. If they can cut their taxes for a free ride, they just give their executives huge bonuses or buy back their stock to keep the price high. They don't reinvest in their people... Our government, local, state and national have become the kingpins for their addiction and the American worker is the mule doing the heavy lifting.... JMHO

And if we drive them out the mule will have nothing to do.

A lot of people will starve before some get their feet back under them and learn to survive.

Then you will have the people desperate enough to rob, steal and kill for what they want.

Then their will be a lot of dead folks who run into people that don't want their families to starve or be murdered.

I guess that is one way to thin the herd.

Corporations get their 10 or 15 year tax abatement and do truly build and put people to work....then as the abatement nears it's end those corporations want to renegotiate with local government, while dangling their employees as bargaining chips.

GO RV, then BV

That's foolish... All my life corporations paid taxes and a living wage to their workers...  And America was fine.. But giving corporations the same rights as individuals and allowing them to contribute to the political system has completely destroyed it. If you think businesses would go out of business if they played by the same rules they did for a couple hundred of years, then you have been conned by their propaganda. The American consumer is the driving engine. Look at Amazon. The richest in the world and pays $12 an hour... Imagine if they paid $20 an hour their workers would just buy more of their crap from Amazon... Funny how that works.

Socialism is what you get when truly EVIL people figure out how to manipulate everyone else into thinking they are going to make their lives better. The problem is two fold. Socialist don't intend to make your life better, they only intend to make their lives better at your expense. And those who chose to think that someone else can make your life worth more or better should look deep within themselves and know that it is your own duty to enhance your status and place in life.

This is the very definition  of FREEDOM.

The power to be mobily upward as a result of the choices you make.

Another thing that people should understand about Capitalism. Our Nation was founded with laws

that governed a companies ability to interfere with government operations. Anti monopoly laws come to mind. Corporations are not the issue here, our elected officials working with large corporations in a symbiotic relationship without regard for the citizenry is illegal. But we all know full well that today

we have very little enforcement of any laws. And that is why we are where we are.

You are right my friend... People being abused in life usually don't know they are being abused.

B/A

Yep....Either that or...They do know they're being abused but are put in the condition to be unable to react in any way...Symbolically chained, blackmailed...They  ( the little people) have to accept exploitation. Period. All over the world

What is foolish is you ignored my first sentence based on a sentence of yours.

No corporations to provide jobs and the workers sit home and starve.

I didn't ignore it... Do you really believe if we taxed corporations they would close down or leave us? The one thing I agree on with Trump is equal tariffs. Before NAFTA corporations were happy to pay and stay... But they got their way didn't they? They got to leave for cheap labor and pay no penalties for bringing products in. But that wasn't good enough. Now they want to pay no taxes, no fees and make us feel like we are doomed if we don't give them what they want... So we are damned if we do and damned if we don't... The only winners are the multinationals. If you think the standard of living for the average American is going to get better you are in for a surprise. Americans are sinking in debt. The country is sinking in debt. Most are spending more than they can afford. The government is spending more than it can afford. The only real profits are going to the corporations and if you don't like it, they will starve you into submission. Is that what we want for our grand kids? People are divided by political party, but are the spend and spend conservatives any better than the spend and spend liberals? It's a party for all of them and we are picking up the tab.

I think they will do exactly as you posted earlier.

They will leave the country for a more lucrative environment and then sell their products back to us here in the U.S.

You are right. Their management does not care.

If those companies folded tomorrow the upper management would take their multi millions and go live a good life.

Look at California and NY.  Many companies are leaving to states that don’t have ridiculous taxes

Many companies were moving to Ireland and other countries that had low taxes.

You know I really believe we need to abolish the income tax and go to a sales tax... I'm poor and buy a Chevy you're rich so you buy a Cadillac. GE needs parts the buy them and pay a tax on their purchase. What's wrong with paying on what you spend instead of what you earn?

That's shameful in the least....There should be strong, effective laws for that...And they should be enforced with absolute determination
