School attended by Trump says it concealed his grades

Washington (AFP) - A military academy that Donald Trump attended as a teenager concealed his academic records in 2011 in response to pressure from Trump allies, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

The New York Military Academy came under such pressure after Trump challenged then president Barack Obama to release his own academic records, with Trump saying he was surprised such a "terrible student" got into Ivy League Schools.

Evan Jones, the headmaster of the military academy at the time, told the Post that the superintendent of the private school "came to me in a panic because he had been accosted by prominent, wealthy alumni of the school who were Mr. Trump's friends" and wanted to keep his academic records secret.

Trump has consistently boasted he was a superb student throughout his youth.

The school's superintendent, or director, at the time, Jeffrey Coverdale, told the paper that he rejected a request from members of the school's board of trustees to hand over Trump's records to them.

"I moved them elsewhere on campus where they could not be released. It’s the only time I ever moved an alumnus’s records," Coverdale told the Post.

Trump spent five years at the military academy starting in the fall of 1959. He has said his parents concluded he needed more discipline.

Last week Trump's former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, testified to a congressional committee last week that one of his jobs was to threaten lawsuits against the schools that Trump attended so they would never release his grades.

Jones said he did not know if the original request to obtain Trump's records at the military academy came from Cohen.

Jones said he found the records in a filing cabinet in the basement of a building on the campus, which is about an hour's drive north of New York City.

"I don’t know if we should be doing this," Jones recalled telling his boss.

"He told me that several wealthy alumni, including a close friend of Mr. Trump, were putting a lot of pressure on the administration to put the record in their custody for safekeeping."

Sure enough.....and a multi-million dollar inheritance goes a long way to kick starting a shot at success as well.  When I was a kid and the folks would threaten to send my brother to Military School.....it wasn't meant as a reward.

Trump Extremely Doesn't Want Anyone to See His High School Grades

GQ Luke Darby,GQ Wed, Mar 6 5:12 PM EST
  • d957c87a3cd61809f11108fdc4ba2051
After demanding Obama release his grades, Trump rushed to make sure his own were kept secret.

Last week, when Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen testified before Congress, he aired a good deal of his former boss's dirty laundry, from Trump's involvement in paying off Stormy Daniels to his utter lack of faith in his oldest son's intelligence. But one of the pettier details that came out was Cohen's work making sure that Trump's school grades never saw the light of day.

During the hearing, Cohen presented a letter he wrote in May 2015 to Fordham University, where Trump went to school before transferring to University of Pennsylvania's Wharton, threatening legal action if Trump's grades ever became public. This was shortly before Trump declared his candidacy and several years after Trump demanded to see then-president Barack Obama's high school transcript to prove he hadn't been a "terrible student."

But apparently Cohen's writing Fordham wasn't the first time that Trump pressured one of his alma maters to make sure that his academic records were kept under wraps. A new story from the Washington Post reports that in 2011, his old high school, the New York Military Academy, the then-headmaster was pushed to make sure that no one would be able to access Trump's records from his time as a student. From the Post:

"The superintendent of the private school came to me in a panic because he had been accosted by prominent, wealthy alumni of the school who were Mr. Trump’s friends” and who wanted to keep his records secret, recalled Evan Jones, the headmaster at the time. “He said, ‘You need to go grab that record and deliver it to me because I need to deliver it to them.’ ”The superintendent, Jeffrey Coverdale, confirmed Monday that members of the school’s board of trustees initially wanted him to hand over President Trump’s records to them, but Coverdale said he refused.“I was given directives, part of which I could follow but part of which I could not, and that was handing them over to the trustees,” he said. “I moved them elsewhere on campus where they could not be released. It’s the only time I ever moved an alumnus’s records.”

It turns out that this was when Trump was still planning a 2012 run for the presidency and came just days after he started making noise about Obama not being a good enough student to get into Ivy League schools. Unlike with Fordham though, here Trump used rich, well-connected friends to make sure his ass was covered.

The thing is, it's hard to imagine that anyone would have changed their vote for or against Trump based on whatever his Fordham GPA was: His appeal or lack thereof isn't more or less intense if he had a 4.0 or a solid C minus. But Trump is, if nothing else, a preening narcissist, and as a result he often picks seemingly irrelevant and obviously false hills to die on: he's lied about historic his Electoral College win was, lied about his net worth to improve his Forbes ranking, and claimed that the Republican tax cuts he signed into law are the biggest in history, a lie that, to date, is still up on the White House's official website. He never works harder than he does when trying to fluff up some arbitrary, superficial measure of success.

Trump somehow 'won' a golf tournament without even playing in it

Yahoo Sports Jay Busbee,Yahoo Sports 14 hours ago
President Donald Trump won a golf tournament he didn't even enter. (Getty) President Donald Trump won a golf tournament he didn't even enter. (Getty)

Regardless of your feelings on President Trump, you can’t deny that the man knows and loves his golf. He’s put his name on well over a dozen courses around the world, he’s hosted majors at his clubs, and he can pick up the phone and get Tiger Woods or Dustin Johnson in his foursome. Oh, and he’s apparently a good enough golfer that he can win tournaments he doesn’t even enter.

The latest Trump Golf Story — they’re like fish stories, except bigger, so much bigger, the biggest — comes to us courtesy of Golf.com’s esteemed Michael Bamberger, who reports that Trump’s locker at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. boasts a new plaque. This one reads “2018 Men’s Club Champion.” (This isn’t fake news. You can see a photo of the locker right here.)

Winning a club championship is a heck of a feat for anyone, especially a 72-year-old man with a demanding day job. (Fact check: During 2018, Donald Trump was serving as president of the United States.) But here’s the really wild part: Trump didn’t even play in the tournament.

So how did he end up with that plaque on his locker, a commemoration of his 20th club championship? (All of those club championships have come at clubs Trump owns, which definitely helps ensure the engraver spells his name correctly.) According to Bamberger, the original winner was a gentleman by the name of Ted Virtue, a CEO with memberships at Winged Foot and Trump International.

Virtue claims a handicap of 3.3, and he’s backed that up with 20 scores posted in 2018 and 2019 ranging from 73 to 83. Not PGA Tour-level play, but pretty dang solid for a 58-year-old. (Trump, for the record, claims a handicap of 2.8, and has only posted two scores since 2016.) Virtue, who was part of the team that helped make the Academy Award-winning “The Green Book,” won the club championship the usual way, by triumphing in multiple matches.

Somewhere along the line, Trump and Virtue actually crossed paths. And at that point, Trump, according to multiple sources, said something along the lines of “The only reason you won is because I couldn’t play.” Trump cited the obligations of being, you know, president of the United States as his reason for missing the club championship.

So then Trump proposed a deal that Virtue couldn’t refuse: a nine-hole playoff for the title of club champion. When your president wants you to play golf, and said president also owns the club, well, you play golf. (Bamberger notes that club officials are not permitted to discuss club matters, and neither Virtue nor Eric Trump, who runs the president’s golf course business, returned his inquiries regarding the unique knockout round.)

No rules officials or television cameras were on hand for this unconventional sudden-death playoff, but Trump nonetheless claimed victory. He then turned to Virtue, according to Bamberger’s sources, and said, effectively, “This isn’t fair — we’ll be co-champions.”

And that’s how it’s listed in the clubhouse’s championship wall, with Trump and Virtue as co-champions. Clearly there was some oversight in not adding the “co-” to Trump’s plaque on his locker. Trump has visited his Florida club 18 times in the last year, part of the 161 estimated golf trips he’s taken since taking office, so perhaps he’ll be able to have someone get that corrected the next time he’s in town.

What President DIDN'T GO GOLFING ? Idiots. Obama went golfing it seemed like practically every other week. Flying there on Airforce 1 to boot. I joked about that. Now Shabbi is joking about it. Eh. While still not perfect, still we have the most robust economy in decades. Something Shabi cannot really deny, though he may or may not try. Perhaps Shabs and the Socialist Dems, and the Dems will soon chill over the fact that Republicans won the election and they didn't.  That side is more pissed since Trump has essentially removed their ability to rule via litigation and liberal judges.

Nope, haven't and won't deny a robust economy at all.....If you go back in time, you'll even see where I gave Trump credit for helping place the economy on blast.  Of course, the economy had been steadily working in the right direction since 2009....but Trump fanatics still haven't been able to bring themselves to admit that.  As for the election, long over, Clinton is history and a non-story....vision is set squarely on Trump and his inability to bring a nation together or act in a respectful manner towards ALL citizens of the United States of America.....for he is the standard bearer, a job that comes with his position.

Now that MAGA thing is funny. I don't care who you are !!! Getting that epiphany must hurt the gray matter. I bet you snarted ? Of course the MAGA thing as you stated idn't really real. You don't need to be a millionare to do it. Obama, like all moderate income elected Dems didn't become a millionare until after he was elected in his case POTUS. I think his second year after his childrens book was published. Or was it the communist manefesto of his fathers story? He went golfing lots of times on the peoples dime before and especially after he got into the millionares club. I am just wondering how long it will take AOC,  or Ilann and her Christian/Judeo hating bigoted self to join the millionares club.  On the robust economy points, 1st: thanks for the props. 2nd: Don't conflate. For the most part we have been above 3% growth in GDP since Mr Trump got elected and started.working to do what he promised to do on the campaigh trail. At 3% growth, a conservative number, its still double what Mr.Obama would ever be obtainable in the future.  Yet here we are?
