Trump criticizes China's trade practices: "I will not accept a bad deal"

 24 September 2019 08:39 PM
Direct US President Donald Trump drew scathing criticism of Chinese trade practices, pointing out that he would not accept a "bad deal" in the negotiations between Washington and Beijing.

In a speech to the United Nations on Tuesday, Bush said Beijing had failed to deliver on promises it made when it joined the World Trade Organization in 2001 and bad practices have affected millions of jobs in the United States and other countries.

Trump said: "China has not only refused to adopt the promised reforms, but adopted an economic model based on huge market barriers and government subsidies and currency manipulation in addition to the forced transfer of technology and theft of intellectual property."

Trump added that with regard to the United States, those days have ended for unfair practice on the part of China, adding: "The American people are fully committed to restoring balance in our relationship with Beijing."

The US president pointed out: "We hope that we can reach an agreement that benefits both countries, and as I have made clear I will not accept a bad deal."

The United States and China are due to hold formal trade talks early next month after the two sides held deputy-level negotiations last week.

"China tried to be nice to me, and I was also towards them. We had some very good talks, " he said.

"You know why they want to make a deal with us? Because they lose their jobs, their supply chains go to hell, and companies are moving out of China and moving to many other areas, including the United States, " he said.

On China's purchases of US agricultural products, Trump said Beijing had begun to do so by buying meat and pork products in particular .

A day earlier, Trump said he would not accept a "bad deal" in negotiations between Washington and Beijing, again accusing the world's second-largest economy of forcible transfers of technology and intellectual property theft.

Chinese enterprises are facing many difficulties due to trade disputes, Chinese Commerce Minister Zhong Shan said Sunday.
"Trade is facing unprecedented challenges, external and domestic," he told a news conference in Beijing.
A new round of high-level trade talks between the United States and China, the world's two largest economies, is expected to be held in Washington on Oct. 10-11, led by Chinese Vice Premier Liu He and Chinese President Xi Jinping's economic adviser.
Zhong said China would expand imports and measures to stabilize trade would yield positive results, but gave no details.
The US administration is considering new radical measures to put financial pressure on Beijing, including canceling the listing of Chinese companies on US stock exchanges.
Sources told Reuters the move would be part of a broader effort to curb US investment in China, partly because of growing security concerns about its activities.
The Chinese foreign minister said on Friday that tariffs and trade disputes could push the world into recession and Beijing was committed to solving it in a "calm, rational and cooperative way."

China reluctant to approve trade deal with Washington

China reluctant to approve trade deal with Washington

 07 Oct 2019 12:22 PM
Live : Press reports revealed that Chinese officials are increasingly reluctant to continue to seek a trade agreement with the United States.

This comes just days before the completion of an expected visit by a Chinese trade delegation led by the Vice-Premier of the United States, for talks with US officials, led by the Trade Representative.

Chinese Vice Premier Lu Hu told prominent figures in China that his deal with the United States would not include pledges on China's industrial policy reform or government subsidies, Bloomberg said on Sunday, citing unnamed sources.

Industrial reform issues and government subsidies are key demands of Donald Trump's administration in trade negotiations with China.

Informed sources confirmed that contacts resumed in the summer focused on how to resume negotiations, and to avoid further escalation of the tariff war that has strained financial markets.

The sources added: "Discussions focused on what US administration officials consider a three-stage process, and if China insists not to participate in any discussions on industrial policy, those plans will be delayed."

Report: China ready to discuss partial trade deal with US

 09 Oct 2019 01:35 PM
Direct : According to press reports that China has expressed its readiness to discuss a partial trade agreement with the United States, so hours of the new round of trade talks before.

Tomorrow, China's Vice Premier will travel to the United States to meet with the US trade team, led by the Treasury Secretary and Trade Representative, for a new round of trade talks.

Beijing is ready to talk about the possible deal as long as there are no additional definitions to be applied by the Trump administration, including those planned this month and December, sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg on Wednesday.

Beijing will provide non-essential facilities such as agricultural purchases in return, but at the same time, the Chinese side stressed that it will not budge on the main sticking points between the two countries, the source said.

Negotiators are not optimistic about a broader deal that would completely end the trade conflict between the world's two largest economies, the source said.

For its part, the Financial Times reported that the Chinese side offers to increase annual purchases of US agricultural products by 10 billion dollars annually, in order to reach a partial agreement.

Report: Washington is considering a currency deal with Beijing in the trade deal

Report: Washington is considering a currency deal with Beijing in the trade deal

 10 October 2019 01:03 PM
The United States is considering offering a currency deal with China as part of the upcoming partial trade deal, according to a recent report.

The White House is considering launching the currency deal as part of the first phase agreement with Beijing, according to a report published by Bloomberg.

The currency deal was agreed by the United States with China earlier this year before trade talks between the world's two largest economies collapsed.

Today, a new round of trade talks will begin in Washington and will continue until Friday as planned.

The currency agreement could be followed by further negotiations on key issues such as intellectual property and the forced transfer of technology, the report said.

Insiders said the Chinese delegation's arrangements are now planned for Chinese officials to leave on Friday evening, although there may be changes depending on the progress of the talks.

Other sources said there could be a meeting with US President Donald Trump on Friday, but it also depends on the negotiations.

Oct 11 (Reuters) - United States and China are said to reach a partial trade deal and could set up a trade truce, a Bloomberg reporter said in a tweet http://bit.ly/2IFV28K on Friday. (Reporting by Bhargav Acharya in Bengaluru)

Big day of negotiations with China. They want to make a deal, but do I? I meet with the Vice Premier tomorrow at The White House.

The Washington Times - Friday, September 20, 2019

President Trump insisted on a “complete” U.S.-China trade deal Friday, saying it’s wonderful that Beijing is buying U.S. farm products but that he won’t settle for half-measures.

“That’s not what I’m looking for. We’re looking for the big deal,” he told reporters at a joint press conference with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison. “I’m not looking for a partial deal, I’m looking for a complete deal.”

Well you have to start somewhere... If partial is the best he can do, it's better than no deal...

Trump: We have reached a very important partial trade agreement with China

 11 October 2019 11:03 PM
Direct US President Donald Trump announced that the United States reached a "very important initial phase" in the trade deal with China in the ongoing negotiations between the two biggest economies in the world.

Trump said in the Oval Office along with Chinese Vice Premier Liu He on Friday: "The second part of the deal will start almost immediately" after the signing of the first phase of the agreement.

Trump said the first deal would address concerns about intellectual property and financial services, as well as the purchase of US agricultural products for $ 40 billion to $ 50 billion.

The president said the first part of the deal would be written over the next three weeks.

Steven Mnuchin said both sides had "almost complete agreement" on currency and financial services issues.

He added that the decision to increase tariffs against China, which was supposed to come into effect next week, will not be enforced.

At the talks, which resumed this week, both sides expressed optimism about an agreement in the near future.

Earlier in the day, Trump said there were good things happening with China, noting that Washington and Beijing exchanged "warmer feelings" during this round of talks compared to the "recent past."

Washington completes first phase of trade deal amid outstanding issues

Washington completes first phase of trade deal amid outstanding issues

 14 October 2019 02:16 PM
From: Sally Ismail

Mubasher: The US has made significant progress in the first phase of a trade deal with China following high-level talks between the two economic powers last weekend, but some concerns remain.

The US president wrote tweets over the weekend via his official Twitter account confirming details of his agreement with the Chinese side.

Trump said: "My agreement with China is that they immediately purchase large quantities of agricultural products without waiting until the signing of the agreement within the next three to four weeks."

"They have already started it, which is the same situation in financial services and other aspects of the agreement."

The president said he agreed not to increase tariffs from 25 percent to 30 percent on October 15, but would remain 25 percent the same.

But at the same time, there were no details of tariff increases to 15 percent on December 15 on a $ 160 billion Chinese goods bill, opening the door for more tariffs in the future.

Last month's 15 percent tariffs on $ 112 billion worth of products from China were still in place.

The US president noted that the US relationship with China is very good, saying: "We will end the first phase of the agreement and then go directly to the second phase."

He stressed that the first phase of the agreement could be finalized and signed soon.

Trump wrote in a subsequent tweet that China has already started buying agricultural products from our magnificent farms, he said.

After Friday's meeting with Chinese Vice President Liu He, Donald Trump commented that the second phase of the agreement would begin almost immediately after the signing of the first phase.

Trump said then that the first part of the trade agreement would be drafted in writing within the next three weeks.

Under the first phase of the agreement, it will address intellectual property rights and financial services concerns as well as the purchase of $ 40 billion to $ 50 billion worth of agricultural products by China, Trump said.

US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin said at the end of last week that the United States would evaluate its decision last August to describe China as a "currency manipulator".

On the other hand, China has said it wants more talks before the first phase agreement announced by Trump, according to Bloomberg.

Trump adviser: China satisfied with partial trade deal

Trump adviser: China satisfied with partial trade deal

 14 October 2019 11:01 PM

Direct: external adviser to the head of Donald Trump in China , said that the partial trade agreement that was agreed upon last Friday caused uneasiness among officials in Beijing.

According to press reports, Chinese officials want another round of discussions before signing the "first phase" deal for the trade deal.

"I would say they are more comfortable than happy," Michael Pillsbury, director of the China Strategy Center at the Hudson Institute, told CNBC on Monday.

Pillsbury said reports that the United States would impose punitive measures against China beyond tariffs, such as removing Chinese companies from the US stock exchange, may have helped reach the "first phase" of the trade deal, although Washington denies it.

"I think this probably frightened the Chinese that they would be engaged in a serious trade war. These are very frightening options," Pillsbury said. this time ".

In addition to the main agreement on China's purchase of agricultural products, Pillsbury said that part of the deal is to establish a large office in both Washington and Beijing to try to settle disputes before the two sides can proceed.

The "Pelsbury": "I think it is wrong to say that there is no progress, but it is also wrong to say that there is a final deal."

Mubasher : The US Treasury Secretary announced that trade negotiators from Washington and Beijing are working on preparing the text of the trade deal in its first phase, in order to prepare it for signing the presidents of the two countries next month.

Sorry folks there is no deal yet... Just more lies from our president. I saw today where he called Mattis overrated and he captured ISIS in one month..

Trump, this source said, then interrupted Schumer, and insisted that Mattis was “the world’s most overrated general.”

“You know why?” the president continued, according to the source. “He wasn’t tough enough. I captured ISIS. Mattis said it would take two years. I captured them in one month.” Trump also repeatedly claimed that of the ISIS prisoners who escaped when Turkish forces invaded northeast Syria (an invasion Trump all but greenlit), only the “least dangerous” individuals got out.
