(Photo: AFP/Mandel Ngan) Iraq United States Washington DC Mike Pompeo A+AA- WASHINGTON DC (Kurdistan 24) – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived Tuesday evening in Baghdad in an unannounced visit to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi, Iraqi sources revealed. Earlier on Tuesday, the State Department announced that Pompeo—who had been in Finland to attend a Foreign Ministers conference of Arctic Circle countries—had cancelled a scheduled visit to Germany that day “due to pressing issues.” The State Department did not reveal to where Pompeo was traveling instead of Germany, standard practice for visits of high-level US officials to Iraq and Afghanistan. Pompeo’s visit to Baghdad comes as tensions between the US and Iran are increasing. On Sunday evening, in a highly unusual move, White House National Security Advisor John Bolton issued a statement saying that the US was moving an aircraft carrier strike group and a bomber task force to the Middle East in response to threatening moves from Iran. 2

I know it seems fanciful but I've always believed that the biggest reason Trump wanted to be POTUS was $30 million dollars worth of dinar. And it seems that the last biggest obstacle for any RV is Iran. This isn't going to work out well for the insane Iranian leadership. 60 years ago a man selling U.S. savings bonds told my mother that they were the safest bet to make because they were backed up by the U.S. Government. yota691
German newspaper: Pompeo's visit to Iraq guide to the breakdown of friendship between Germany and America Political | 10:14 - 08/05/2019 The unexpected surprise occurred when US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo canceled his planned visit to Germany and went to Iraq. Mike Pompeo, the US secretary of state, should have arrived in Germany to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel and his German counterpart Haiku Mas. But Pompeo canceled his visit to Germany hours before he met with the German Chancellor and went to Baghdad. "The cancellation of the visit of the US Secretary of State signifies the" breakdown "of the friendship between Germany and the United States of America, according to the German newspaper" Zued Deutsche Zeitung. " According to the newspaper, Pompeo's decision to cancel his visit to Germany is part of "shameless" diplomatic decisions. She said: "What was described after Donald Trump took over the presidency of the United States just over two years, the German-American friendship (crash)." According to the newspaper, the United States of America is no longer the ally of Germany in many cases, and became a rival. German Foreign Minister Haikou Mas announced his country's rejection of US "punitive" measures against Russia, which affect Europe's energy market. He also criticized Washington's trade policy, pointing out that the trade war between the United States and China threatens Germany. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, late on Tuesday, made an unannounced visit to Baghdad. Pompeo met with President Barham Salih, Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and senior officials to discuss several issues, most notably US security concerns from Iran. The visit comes two days after US national security adviser John Bolton said Washington would deploy the Abraham Lincoln bomber squadron and bomber force to the Middle East because of "the real threat posed by the Iranian regime's forces." Fears of a threat from Iranian troops come after Washington has stepped up sanctions on Tehran over its nuclear program in recent months and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards have been labeled a terrorist organization. "We talked to them about the importance of Iraq ensuring its ability to protect the Americans in their country properly," Pompeo told reporters after meeting Abdulmahdi, according to Reuters. "The purpose of the meeting is to inform Iraqi officials of the increased threat posed by America so that they can effectively protect US forces," Pompeo said. And expressed his country's support for Iraqi sovereignty, saying: "We do not want to enter any party in their country and certainly not by attacking another state inside Iraq." Asked before the meetings whether there was a danger to the Baghdad government from Iran, although that raised US concerns over Iraq's sovereignty, he replied: "No, in general this is our position since the national security strategy was introduced at the beginning of the administration of President Donald Trump." Asked about the decision to move the aircraft carrier and bombers to the region, Pompeo said that "Washington wants to defend its interests from the Iranian threat and to ensure that it has the necessary forces to achieve this goal." "The message we sent to the Iranians, I hope, puts us in a position where we can deter and the Iranians will think twice about attacking US interests." He pointed out that " "He talked with Iraqi officials about their energy and infrastructure needs, especially in the electricity, oil and natural gas sectors," he said. He pointed out, "to discuss ways to move forward at a rapid pace in projects that may help improve the lives of Iraqis." 1

yota691
Araji reveals the reason for Pompeo's visit to Baghdad: This is what the political forces must do Political | 12:05 - 08/05/2019 BAGHDAD - Former Deputy Prime Minister Bahaa al-Araji revealed on Wednesday the reason for the visit of US Secretary of State Mark Pompeo, a surprise to the capital Baghdad. "The visit of Pompeo to Baghdad is a warning to Iraq to stand with the Islamic Republic of Iran, or what does it mean to say that we want an independent Iraq," Araji said in a statement. "They believe that the Iranian decision is dominant in the Iraqi political and government scene, and here we say that Pompeo's demand that Iraq be with US decisions against Iran is against the independence of Iraq, which Pompeo calls for." Araji stressed that "all political forces must unite their position and support the government to be a national Iraqi decision, not American or Iranian." 2

"America is well aware of the seriousness of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and its militias taking the political, government and security decision in Iraq," said party leader Mithal al-Alusi. "The visit of US Secretary of State Mark Pompeo to Baghdad came with the aim of supporting the Iraqi government and providing all the possibilities it needs in exchange for liberating Iraq and the Iraqi decision of Iranian control and working to eliminate any militia belonging to Iran. The government will do some of the measures requested by America. " The leader of the popular crowd, Moin al-Kazimi, told "Ashqaf News" Wednesday that "targeting US targets in Iraq and abroad, especially in case of transgression of the US side on the sovereignty of Iraq and the rights of the neighboring state." US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made a surprise visit to Iraq amid mounting tension between the United States and Iran. Pompeo canceled a visit to Berlin to meet Iraqi leaders in Baghdad during a four-hour visit. This comes after US officials announced sending a US aircraft carrier to the region in response to threats posed by Iran to US forces and Washington's allies. The United States has not given much details on the nature of the threat. He also announced Tuesday the intention of Washington to send B-52 bombers to the region. Details of Pompeo's short visit to the Iraqi capital were not announced. But met with Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi and President Barham Saleh. During a press statement after the meeting, the US Secretary of State linked his visit to the recent escalation with Iran. He said he spoke with "the leadership there (in Iraq) to reassure them that we stand ready to ensure that Iraq is an independent and sovereign state." He said he wanted to help them be less dependent on energy deals with Iran. 3
