Trump slams 'The Russian Witch Hunt Hoax' as the 'insurance policy' against his presidency

Trump slams 'The Russian Witch Hunt Hoax' as the 'insurance policy' against his presidency that has 'nothing to do with collusion', says Jeff Sessions should be 'ashamed' he allowed it and labels it all a 'Democrat Scam!'

  • President Trump took to Twitter on Sunday to slam the Russia investigation
  • Trump denounced probe headed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller as a 'hoax' and a 'witch hunt'
  • President also blamed former Attorney General Jeff Sessions for allowing it to happen
  • Trump also lashed out at Democrats for 'entrapping' people, presumably a reference to former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn
  • Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about a conversation he had with the then-Russian ambassador during the transition
  • In exchange for his guilty plea, he is said to have cooperated extensively with the Mueller investigation
  • Trump's former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, was sentenced to three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations
  • The President called Cohen a 'rat' for turning on him and slammed the FBI for 'raiding' his office

President Donald Trump has accused the Democrats and Special Counsel Robert Mueller of staging an investigation into alleged Russian meddling as a way of overturning the results of the 2016 election.

The President on Sunday also sought to turn the attention away from himself by attacking several of his political rivals: his former attorney, Michael Cohen; Hillarious Clinton; the FBI; and two former FBI employees.

Trump assailed Cohen as a 'rat' for turning on him and wrongly claimed the FBI broke into his former lawyer's office.

He slammed Jeff Sessions, who resigned the day after the 2018 election at Trump's request, following a months long public and private contention between Trump and Sessions over his recusal from overseeing Mueller's investigation.

Trump got in his dig at Sessions in a pair of tweets quoting Daniel Henninger of The Wall Street Journal, who was speaking about Trump's former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

Henninger wrote: 'It looks here as though General Flynn's defenses are incidental to something larger which is for the prosecution to figure out if it can find a path to Donald Trump without quite knowing what that crime might be. It stops looking like prosecution and more looking like a persecution of the President.'

Trump added: 'Thank you, people are starting to see and understand what this Witch Hunt is all about.

'Jeff Sessions should be ashamed of himself for allowing this total HOAX to get started in the first place!'

Sessions has been one of Trump's favorite targets in his railings against the Mueller investigation.

And Mueller's office earlier this month said that Flynn's cooperation - including 19 meetings with investigators - was so extensive that he was entitled to avoid prison when he is sentenced next week.

Flynn, who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about conversations during the presidential transition period with the then-Russian ambassador to the United States, will become the first White House official punished in the Special Counsel's ongoing probe into whether the Trump campaign coordinated with Russia during the 2016 presidential election.

In court papers Tuesday, he requested probation and community service for his false statements.

Trump also claimed the investigation into Russia started before he was elected and that it's a 'Democrat scam.'

'....The Russian Witch Hunt Hoax, started as the "insurance policy" long before I even got elected, is very bad for our Country. They are Entrapping people for misstatements, lies or unrelated things that took place many years ago. Nothing to do with Collusion. A Democrat Scam!' he tweeted Sunday afternoon.

U.S. intelligence agencies were investigating whether Russia was trying to influence the 2016 election during that year and briefed Trump on the matter after he was elected but before he took office.

However, Mueller wasn't appointed as special counsel until May 17, 2017,  after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey on May 9, 2017.

The president also attempted to turn the spotlight on the FBI's investigation of Hillarious Clinton's email server when he wrote: 'Why didn't they break into the DNC to get the Server, or Crooked's office?'

Crooked is a term he uses in reference to Clinton. He calls her 'Crooked Hillarious Clinton' during his campaign rallies.

The FBI investigated Clinton's use of a private email server. While it found she was 'extremely careless,' then-FBI director James Comey recommended that no charges be filed.

A subsequent report from the Department of Justice's watchdog found the FBI was not political in its investigation of Clinton, a charge some Republicans had made particularly after text messages were revealed between former FBI agent Peter Strzok and former FBI lawyer Lisa Page.

The two agents - who were working on the investigation and having an affair - had texted of their hopes Trump would lose the election.

Trump has also railed about the text messages between Strzok and Page.

'So where are all the missing Text messages between fired FBI agents Peter S and the lovely Lisa Page, his lover. Just reported that they have been erased and wiped clean. What an outrage as the totally compromised and conflicted Witch Hunt moves ever so slowly forward. Want them!' he wrote on Sunday.

The Justice Department's inspector general, in a report released Thursday, found no evidence the FBI intentionally destroyed text messages between Strzok and Page.

The inspector general faulted an FBI-wide software failure that has resulted in large portions of FBI text messages not being archived, the Associated Press fact checker found.

The report examined a gap in messages from December 2016 through May 2017 from Strzok and Page's phones. The FBI ultimately managed to recover thousands of the messages.

Some congressional Republicans had suggested the messages were intentionally deleted. The report from DoJ said there was no evidence of that.

On Wednesday, Michael Cohen was sentenced to three years in jail for multiple crimes - including bank fraud, campaign finance violations and lying to Congress.

Trump has tweeted fast and furious against his former personal attorney since that sentencing.

Former FBI director James Comey took to Twitter to slam back at the president and point out that the FBI's seizure of evidence in the Cohen case came about as a result of a 'lawful execution of a search warrant.'

In an interview with 'Good Morning America' on Friday, Cohen expressed his wish to 'not be the villain' of the saga

'This is from the President of our country, lying about the lawful execution of a search warrant issued by a federal judge. Shame on Republicans who don't speak up at this moment — for the FBI, the rule of law, and the truth,' he wrote.

Trump also argued it was Cohen's job - as his lawyer - to know what was legal and what wasn't.

The pressure appears to be on the White House as reports indicated Mueller is close to wrapping up his probe, which is examining whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to affect the 2016 election.

In a separate investigation, the Southern District of New York looked into the payoffs to two women who claimed to have affairs with Trump, which he denied.

Evidence in both matters was said to be found in the April raid on Cohen's office.

In an interview with 'Good Morning America' on Friday, Cohen expressed his wish to 'not be the villain' of the saga and defended himself against the President, who has publicly attacked him numerous times since he pleaded guilty to a 'veritable smorgasbord' of charges in August.

The crime that is most perilous for Trump - who is said to be 'privately fretting over impeachment' is Cohen's campaign violation payments.

Prosecutors say a figure identified as 'Individual-1' – Trump – 'directed' Cohen to make a $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels.

Trump initially denied any payment, but on Thursday put forward the defense that it was his lawyer's job to know the law.

'I never directed Michael Cohen to break the law,' Trump wrote on Twitter Thursday. 'He was a lawyer and he is supposed to know the law. It is called 'advice of counsel,' and a lawyer has great liability if a mistake is made.'

But Cohen told Stephanopoulos: 'I don't think there is anybody that believes that.

'First of all, nothing at the Trump organization was ever done unless it was run through Mr. Trump. He directed me to make the payments, he directed me to become involved in these matters.'

Trump has reportedly told allies in his closest circle that he is alarmed by the possibility of impeachment, despite publicly stating that he isn't concerned.

On Sunday he also tweeted the words of people defending him.

'Judge Ken Starr, former Solicitor Generel & Independent Counsel, just stated that, after two years, 'there is no evidence or proof of collusion' & further that 'there is no evidence that there was a campaign financing violation involving the President.' Thank you Judge. @FoxNews,' he wrote.

On Thursday, the president was revealed to be the third man who attended a 2015 meeting with Cohen and American Media Inc. boss David Pecker where they forged a plan to keep Trump's alleged affairs out of the press.

The meeting, which was referenced in a letter federal prosecutors sent to National Enquirer publisher American Media Inc, included an offer by the company CEO to 'help deal with negative stories about the presidential candidate's relationships with women'.

With Trump identified as having been there, it means he was present when a plan was developed that ultimately led to Cohen pleading guilty to a felony and getting three years in jail.

It also led to a cooperation agreement with prosecutors in which Pecker - one of Trump's former best friends - would not be prosecuted 'for any crimes' related to campaign finance law resulting from the meeting.

AMI gave $150,000 to Playboy model Karen McDougal, who says she had a 10-month affair with the president, and Cohen was involved in discussions relating to this.

That could leave Trump as the odd man out if he continues his denials that he did anything wrong and never 'directed' Cohen to break the law and he is now the only person in the room who claims that the hush money wasn't used to impact the outcome of the election.

Pecker agreed to flip - and is still cooperating with federal authorities.

In a statement, the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District said it agreed not to prosecute AMI after the company admitted 'that it made the $150,000 payment in concert with a candidate's presidential campaign, and in order to ensure that the woman did not publicize damaging allegations about the candidate before the 2016 presidential election'.

The news comes amid a spike in talk in Washington about the possibility that the president could be charged with directing a federal crime, even if it is ultimately held that he is immune from such charges due to his office and the Justice Department's prior interpretation of the Constitution that sitting presidents cannot be indicted, only impeached.

If they try to impeach him based on what I'm reading there will be a Constitutional Crisis which I believe is what the Dems have been wanting for years.  They want to tear up the Constitution and rewrite it.  Trump will not go quietly like Nixon and neither will his supporters.

Keep dreaming, they have nothing on him for impeachment.  If they do, it's based on lies and deciet and at this point the ignorant left will believe their masters.

For those keeping track, Special Counsel Mueller's investigation into possible Russian collusion with the Trump campaign is still ongoing.....Relax, results all in good time folks.  And before anybody brings up the price tag of said investigation (again).......just compare it to the ever increasing price tag of Trump's golf outings and you'll surely feel vindicated.  :)

The Left is pretty pumped up with the activity of the Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller.......He was the Director of the FBI for 8 years.......and a Republican.......

How can anyone question his abilities or politics?

Mueller was the head of the FBI in 2013........this was when the USG / IRS was being questioned for holding up the 501c processes for Conservative Political Candidates as  related to Fund Raising

The FBI was on this........well sort of........this exchange leads be to wonder about Mueller's competence.....any lack of urgency also tends to illustrate a political leaning........and as hard as he was pushed at this 2013 hearing by Jordan and Gowdy.......it makes me wonder if he doesn't have an axe to grind......

Sure.....lots of speculation on my part............I just believe the video is very telling on Mueller's abilities......

You may be on to something, CL.....seems everyday we hear more and more of possible skeletons in these people's closets....perhaps even some skeletons in the showers at tOSU.  It seems endless.  Possible credibility issues abound, that's for sure.

Russian Suing BuzzFeed Over Steele Dossier Wins Major Court Decision

BuzzFeed was dealt a major blow in court on Tuesday, after a Judge decided that a Russian internet entrepreneur named in the infamous "Steele Dossier" is not a public figure

buzzfeed%20suyed%201.jpg

The decision by Judge Ursula Ungaro means that Russian businessman Aleksej Gubarev, who sued BuzzFeed last year for defamation, has to prove a much lower standard of evidence against the media outlet.

Public figures typically need to be able to prove the more demanding standard of "actual malice" when bringing a libel suit, while nonpublic figures only need to prove negligence, according to Politico

BuzzFeed spokesman Matt Mittenthal expressed disappointment in the decision, but he stressed that the media company is advancing several other legal arguments about why it was justified in its decision to publish the dossier former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele compiled about alleged ties between President Donald Trump and Russia. -Politico

BuzzFeed's Mittenthal said that the ruling does not change the fact that the dossier was given legitimacy due to the fact that both Trump and President Obama were briefed on it, and was under "active and ongoing investigation" by the FBI.

"While we disagree with this narrow opinion, it pertains only to one defense of our decision to publish the Steele Dossier, and has no bearing on the primary rationale: that the Dossier was the subject of official action by our government, briefed to two consecutive presidents, and under active and ongoing investigation by the FBI," said Mittenthal.

BuzzFeed argued that public relations efforts by Gubarev - including a quote in a November 2016 Bloomberg article about allegations of clandestine server connections between Trump Tower and Russia's Alfa Bank - rendered him a public figure. The Russian businessman also hired a PR firm related to that allegation.

The Judge, however, was not convinced.

"Plaintiffs’ public involvement in cybersecurity and cybercrime issues, therefore, is not germane unless it is tied to Russian interference with the election. And, with the exception of Gubarev’s comments published in Bloomberg, they are not," she wrote in her opinion. "Because Plaintiffs were only tangential participants in the controversy, they are not limited public figures."

Gubarev filed the suit against BuzzFeed in February 2017, claiming that the publication of the unverified Steele Dossier damaged his reputation along with that of his companies. The dossier claimed that Gubarev's company conducted hacking operations on behalf of a Russian spy agency against various Democrats during the 2016 US election.

BuzzFeed never asserted the dossier was true but said the public deserved to be aware of the reports circulating at the highest levels of the U.S. government and believed to be part of a potential effort by Russia to gain leverage over Trump.

After Gubarev objected to the mentions of him and his firms, BuzzFeed blacked out those references, but the dossier had already been widely distributed without those edits.

A jury trial in the case could begin as soon as next month, but motions by both sides to dispose of the case on the current record are still pending before Ungaro, an appointee of President George H.W. Bush. -Politico

Last week the FBI declassified a two-page document which former FBI Director James Comey used to brief both Obama and Trump on the dossier amid the presidential transition. The memo - disclosed after a Politico reporter filed a Freedom of Information Act, says that the dossier was prepared for "private clients," which were later identified as a law firm acting on behalf of Hillarious Clinton's campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

What is futile is the Mueller made up phony Investigation.  The Truth will come out on how he and his Merry Band of Democratic henchmen have perpetrated the largest criminal activity in US political history.  Yes, it will all come out and it will go to the top, HRC, Barry, Lynch, Comey, Mueller, Rosenstein, Brennan.the FBI leadership and all the snowflakes in the US government who have been leaking stories to the National Democratic Media.  There is no way what Mueller is doing will bring Trump to Impeachment.

As I've said before, Mueller will reveal his investigative results......all in good time.  While we wait we should focus on some of the good deflective policies Trump is springing on us right now....such as withdrawing troops from Syria, keeping the Government open for business, banning bump stocks, and relaxing incarceration by signing the federal criminal justice bill.  As always, just my opinion.

Agreed md11

At least those deflective policies are decent unlike the unlawful Fisa report and Mueller Investigation.  Shabbs we all know you hate Trump but do you really believe this is the correct way to go about it.  Do you believe in phony Fisa Reports, an Investigation that is made up of the opposing party.  Do you truly believe in threatening, intimidating, bankrupting, ruining others careers to sweat them for information.  If you do then turnabout will be coming to the next President and the next and the next.  Is that what you want.  What is going on is against our Rule of Law.  If you don't have that then you will see a Civil War.  Is that what you want.

The Democrats have gone off the rails.  It is clear to anyone who cares to take a look without their rose colored glasses.  It all started with HRC taking over the DNC and fixing the primaries.  Her nomination was a farce, an coronation and since it worked why not do the same in the National Election.  Just this week it was revealed that HRC was positioning herself to dispute the election results something she scolded Trump on right before the election.  She had her Russia Collusion story all ready to spring the minute she lost. She and her elk are unlawful and need to be brought to justice.  Lock her up and all her accomplices.

Whatever Mueller reports will be tainted, as his Investigation is UNLAWFUL, and nothing but an Investigation to COVER for the UNLAWFUL and dirty deeds of HRC and the Barry Administration.  Just because you hate a candidate doesn't give you a reason to start an Investigation with the sole purpose of finding a crime, any crime just to weaken or debilitate that candidate.  That is not our Rule of Law and it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

And, Yes, I would not agree if it was a Republican Special Investigation obtained in the manner this Mueller Investigation was conceived.  Phony Fisa Report that Comey can't seem to remember s****.  Unbelievably stupid and treasonous conduct by the Democratic Leadership.  Lock them all up.

Nope....that's not what I want.  I just want a decent human being in the position of POTUS, be it Republican, Democrat or Independent....party makes no difference to me.  The "real measure of a man/woman" has nothing to do with political party affiliation.
