BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The Iraqi

parliament is studying a proposal to cut a fixed percentage of salaries of employees, up to 10 percent for high-wage earners, the MP said on Wednesday, citing the aim of boosting the state budget.

"The deputies are considering a proposal to deduct a certain percentage of the salaries of employees to support the state budget, but we faced a problem with the low salary holders, since all employees can not be covered by these deductions," al-Issawi told Al-Ghad Press.

He pointed out that "we are currently studying that deductions are limited to those who receive a monthly salary of one million dinars and more, and the rate of deduction increases as the salary increases."

He said Issawi "will be deducted 3% of those who receive a monthly salary of one million dinars, while those who receive two million dinars will be deducted 5%, and three million dinars 7%, to reach the proportion to 10% of those who receive four million dinars a month," so far " It is not agreed on the rate of the initial rate, ie will begin deductions by 3% or 5%.

He pointed out that "

"There will certainly be objections from the employees, but the laws of the state must be observed by all," he said.

On the justification of this proposal, he pointed out that "there are different views now on the mechanism of employing these deductions, there are those who believe that go to the budget, and some suggest that go to provide certain activities such as strengthening the education sector or the health sector or services.

He said Issawi that the deductions "will include members of the House of Representatives and ministers and special grades, because the proposal speaks about all employees of the state."
