Im not really debating, arguing, or trying to make anyone mad.  All I’m pointing out is the fact that the Resistance thing is getting old.  It’s a bash Trump and Conservatives to the point of absurdity.  The hysteria is like nothing we have ever witnessed in American Politics.  The hypocrisy is so thick and the lies are so numerous neither political party can keep track of their own statements.

Shabbs you need to take a step back from the abyss and realize you are spewing the Left’s garbage everyday, and for what reason.  Ok, you hate Trump, I get it, but do you really agree with the Dems policies, like open borders?  How about all the hysteria over the Kavanaugh hearings.  Are you at the point where winning at any cost is worth destroying the fabric of what makes this country great.  The Rule of Law!!

I dont consider myself a self a Dem or a Rep but I lean more right.

I will never support a party that surrenders our Sovereignty to the UN, wants to take away our Second Amendment rights, believes in open borders, and runs up a 10 trillion deficit in 8 years.  I’m not too fond of the AHC BS either.  Now let’s talk about the real Russian Collusion story, or how the FBI and DOJ committed treason to try and take down a President.  How can you a Veteran support any of that.  Seriously, how can you?!!!!!

Im not telling you what to do or say but imho you and the country would be better off if all our government officials where held accountable,  Both parties are full of it but one party is trying to take the USA down.  Why cover for them.

People like you and me who have served should speak out against unlawful activities no matter what Party is the culprit.

You may have way too much faith and trust in the CIA....often times they have a hard time getting out of their own way.....

================

More than five years after a major failure was identified in a system used to communicate with CIA agents on the ground around the world, the agency has yet to fully fix the problem, according to sources directly familiar with the matter.

Between around 2009 and 2013, the CIA’s online method of communicating with its human sources on the ground all over the world was tragically compromised — leading to the exfiltration, imprisonment or death of dozens of people spying for the agency, according to a November investigation by Yahoo News.

The failure started when Iranian officials used a double agent to trace back a series of websites the CIA was using to communicate with its sources. Iran then located, detained and in some instances executed CIA sources it identified using this system. The problem then spread to China, where roughly 30 CIA sources were eventually executed. Once Iran and China were able to locate users of these covert CIA platforms in their own countries, sources told Yahoo News, they were very likely able to discover a large number of CIA sources using similar systems worldwide.

But the fallout from that disaster, including internal battles at the CIA and struggles to replace and fix a complex web of interlocking technical systems, continues to rage on to this day, according to five former intelligence community sources familiar with the matter.

The CIA declined to comment for this piece.

Because of the scope of the problem, fixing it was also a staggering task. It’s not just “a single flawed system that needed to be fixed,” according to one former CIA official. “It was a universe of systems.”

The issues with internet-based covert communications systems cannot be fully solved piecemeal and will require an immense allocation of resources. “A patch won’t solve the problem,” said one of the former officials. “We’re not talking about billions of dollars, we’re talking about hundreds of billions of dollars to fix” these systems.

A second former official was more charitable, arguing that while the problem is not entirely solved, “there’s been major improvement” in the communications system. But, the source added, “it doesn’t serve everyone equally.”

d0942003389f6db227b041e627705a98

As a result, many who are directly responsible for working with sources on the ground within the CIA’s Directorate of Operations are furious, said a former official who was more critical about the agency’s progress.

The fiascos in Iran and China continue to be sticking points between the Directorate of Operations and the CIA’s Directorate of Science and Technology (DS&T) — the technical scientists. “There is a disconnect between the two directorates,” said one former CIA official. “I’m not sure that will be fixed anytime soon.”

The CIA’s website says that the agency is wholly in charge of “providing secure communications for CIA assets.” But the agency acquires its cutting-edge tech through multiple channels, including through contracts with defense companies. It also invests money in startups through In-Q-Tel, the CIA’s nonprofit venture capital wing.

The agency does some in-house research and development within DS&T, which houses many of the CIA’s tech experts, who often work directly with external defense contractors developing technology to fit agency needs.

Former intelligence officials described longstanding tensions between the two directorates, as well as dysfunction within DS&T itself. DS&T’s budget has grown tremendously, said one former official, and the division was known for “wasting a lot money over the years.”

A deeper issue was the lack of congruence between the covert communications platforms and the actual stated needs of CIA officers in the field, said former officials. DS&T employees, who seemed intent on “empire building,” had a “take it or leave it’ attitude,” said one former senior official.

However, introducing technology into sensitive operations is always risky, particularly in countries like Iran where the United States doesn’t have a dedicated diplomatic presence. Internet-based covert communications provide sources the opportunity to hide in plain sight, using innocuous seeming websites — but the systems are inherently less secure and prone to exposure, especially in placed where the internet is heavily surveilled.

f917ce260a338536a8538b0c8cb7d065

Even under the best of circumstances, said one former senior official, internet-based communications systems create counterintelligence challenges. CIA agents using the system were supposed to conduct “electronic surveillance detection routes” — that is, to bounce around on various sites on the internet before accessing the system, in order to cover their tracks — but often failed to do so, creating potentially suspicious patterns of internet usage, said this person.

Entire careers in the CIA’s Office of Technical Service — the part of DS&T directly responsible for developing covert communications systems — were built on these internet-based systems, said a former senior official. Raising concerns about them was “like calling someone’s baby ugly,” said this person.

Distrust also built up over DS&T’s perceived lack of truthfulness about its own capabilities, or that of its contracting partners. DS&T has a “nasty habit” of overpromising and underdelivering, said the same former official. “In official traffic they say, ‘Yes, we can do that.” But over direct message, they’d say, ‘We can’t.’”

In the case of the initial covert communications failure in Iran, contractors were deeply involved in the mission, including locating and targeting specific sources on the ground that the CIA might recruit. John Reidy, a contractor with Virginia defense company SAIC, was one such employee. In 2008, he blew the whistle on concerns that a massive technical failure might occur.

His complaints were not heeded for several years.

The reliance on major defense contractors within the Pentagon and the intelligence community is a controversial one. The Congressional Research Serviceexamined the issue in 2015 following former NSA contractor Edward Snowden’s leak of a large cache of internal classified documents on global surveillance. Among other concerns, CRS cited the risk that the government may not have “sufficient capacity to monitor contractor employees who perform critical functions” and may “run the risk of ceding control over their mission and operations to contractors.”

Problems with complex technical systems are nothing new in the national security community. But typically when those problem occur in unclassified Pentagon contracts, they are publicized, like with a $5 billion intelligence fusion network acquired by the U.S. Army that at one point was deemed “not survivable” or “effective.”

But when problems occur with classified contracts, the issues tend to stay under the radar.

“They keep paying shitty defense contractors” to work on covert communications and other projects, said one of the sources.

The problem is also potentially larger than just the CIA, said one former senior intelligence official. In the past, the Defense Clandestine Service, the Defense Intelligence Agency’s covert human-intelligence gathering arm, has employed CIA-developed internet-based covert communications platforms, as has the United Kingdom’s Secret Intelligence Service during joint operations conducted with the agency, said this person.

At the CIA, it’s unclear whether the exposure of the failure will lead to any major changes. However, CIA Director Gina Haspel spent decades undercover in the Directorate of Operations and has spoken about the near sacred place human sources hold for her and the agency.

0b6a28f05ee6e2a8aeee1d83d7a65132

“Within the intelligence community, CIA is the keeper of the human intelligence mission. Technical forms of collection are vital, but a good human source is unique and can deliver decisive intelligence on our adversaries’ secrets — even their intent,” she said during a speech at the University of Louisville in Kentucky in September.

One longstanding proposal has been to put the Office of Technical Service under the direct authority of the Directorate of Operations — a move resisted by DS&T, said a former senior official. The same former official also decried shortfalls among the agency’s technical staff. “We used to recruit tech officers from a variety of fields,” said this person. “And the agency would produce its own COVCOM [covert communications] systems in-house. We’d test it there. In denied areas, we had special systems.”

These systems were not internet-based, said this person, and functioned more like “electronic dead-drops.”

Now, said this person, tech officers “only know about computers.” The ease of using these online systems lulled people into false confidence about their security, said former officials.

Additionally, it’s possible congressional investigators could again take up the mantle to oversee the ongoing procurement process and the effectiveness of the technology in use overseas to communicate with sources.

But with the investigation into Russian electoral interference dominating the agenda of the oversight committees, they’re unlikely to pursue the matter aggressively, said one former senior intelligence official.

“Heads should roll because of this,” said this person. “Agents were killed. But to protect people’s careers and egos, we buried counterintelligence problems.”

Once again.....I've never claimed to be a liberal Democrat, but that's the label I've been saddled with around here because I am a dedicated "Never Trump" guy.  I used to pride myself with being a fence sitter who leaned left....even thought there was a time I was pulling for Ron Paul.  I weigh all issues independently not by party.  I actually support some of DJT's positions....but I don't support him.  I don't trust him and I can't stomach his treatment of other human beings.  Other than most of the people on this forum, the real life Trump supporters I know are uninformed voters who love Trump because he has cleared the way for them to treat people with disrespect, human decency be damned.  I wasn't raised that way and will never support a man like that.  Pretty simple really.  Don't get me started on deficits either....the most current tax plan will do nothing to balance our bloated national debt.  I'm out for now, have a nice night, Pitcher.

I think the people who support Trump like the fact they feel he is fighting for them unlike the past President who stuffed a ridiculous AHC Law down their throats.  That’s when I could no longer support Barry or the Dems.  Remember also, Barry made fun of a big part of the country by saying they were holding onto their guns and Bibles.  HRC called a big part of the country Deplorables and Fly over territory.

They see how the Dems are bringing in large populations of Hispanics and Muslims into their communities while not protecting the Sovereign borders of the US.

It shouldn’t be surprising why Trump was elected, he understood the frustration and betrayal of the Democratic Party as well as the Republican Party.  There was no way Trump should have beat out seasoned politicians like Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, or HRC.

If the Dems don’t start telling the US people how they will benefit them and get off the Resistance, get Trump bandwagon, You best get ready for 6 more years of President Trump. Get Trump is not a wise political platform!!!!

From the Indepedent.....

Can I be the only one – apart from his own sycophants – to find the sight of America’s finest Republicans and Democrats condemning the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia for murdering Jamal Khashoggi a bit sickening? “Crazy”. “Dangerous”. A “wrecking ball”. A “smoking saw”. These guys are angry. CIA director Gina Haspel, who was happy to sign off on the torture of her Muslim captives in a secret American prison in Thailand, obviously knew what she was talking about when she testified about Mohammed bin Salman and the agony of Jamal Khashoggi.

US government leaks suggest that Haspel knew all about the shrieks of pain, the suffering of Arab men who believed they were drowning, the desperate pleading for life from America’s victims in these sanctuaries of torment in and after 2002. After all, the desperate screams of a man who believes he is drowning and the desperate screams of a man who believes he is suffocating can’t be very different. Except, of course, that the CIA’s victims lived to be tortured another day – indeed several more days – while Jamal Khashoggi’s asphyxiation was intended to end his life. Which it did.

A generation ago, the CIA’s “Operation Phoenix” torture and assassination programme in Vietnam went way beyond the imaginations of the Saudi intelligence service. In spook language, Khashoggi was merely “terminated with maximum prejudice”. If the CIA could sign off on mass murder in Vietnam, why shouldn’t an Arab dictator do the same on a far smaller scale? True, I can’t imagine the Americans went in for bone saws. Testimony suggests that mass rape followed by mass torture did for their enemies in Vietnam. Why play music through the earphones of the murderers?

But still it goes on. Here’s Democrat senator Bob Menendez this week. The US, he told us, must “send a clear and unequivocal message that such actions are not acceptable on the world’s stage”. The “action”, of course, is the murder of Khashoggi. And this from a man who constantly defended Israel after its slaughter of the innocents in Gaza.

So what on earth is going on here? Perhaps the “world’s stage” of which Menendez spoke was the White House – an appropriate phrase, when you come to think about it – where the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia has been no stranger. Yet when at least one recent US presidential incumbent of that high office can be considered guilty of war crimes – in Iraq – and the deaths of tens of thousands of Arabs, how come American senators are huffing and puffing about just one man, Mohammed bin Salman, who (for a moment, let us set aside the Yemen war) is only being accused of ordering the murder and dismemberment of one single Arab?

After all, world leaders – and US presidents themselves – have always had rather a soft spot for mass murderers and those who should face war crimes indictments. Trump has infamously met Kim Jong-un and invited him to the White House. We are all waiting for Rodrigo Duterte to take up his own invitation.

Obama lavished hospitality at the White House on a host of bloody autocrats – from Gambia, Burkina Faso and Cameroon – before we even recall Suharto, whose death squads killed up to half a million people; and Hosni Mubarak, whose secret police sometimes raped their prisoners and who sanctioned the hanging of hundreds of Islamists without proper trials, and his ultimate successor, Field Marshal-President al-Sisi, who has around 60,000 political prisoners locked up in Egypt and whose cops appear to have tortured a young Italian student to death. But Giulio Regeni wasn’t murdered in an Egyptian consulate. This list does not even include Ariel Sharon, who as Israeli defence minister was accused by an Israeli inquiry of personal responsibility for the massacre of 1,700 Palestinian civilians at the Sabra and Chatila camps in Beirut in 1982.

So what is this “clear and unequivocal message” that senator Menendez is rambling on about? The message has been clear and unequivocal for decades. The US “national interest” always trumps (in both senses) morality or international crime. Why else did the United States support Saddam Hussein in his attempt to destroy Iran and his use of chemical warfare against Iran? Why else did Donald Rumsfeld plead with Saddam in December 1993 to allow the reopening of the US embassy in Baghdad when the Iraqi dictator (a “strongman” at the time, of course) had already used mustard gas against his opponents? By the time Rumsfeld arrived for his meeting, more than 3,000 victims had fallen amid Iraqi gas clouds. The figure would reach at least 50,000 dead. Which is, in mathematical terms, Jamal Khashoggi times 50,000.

Yet we are supposed to recoil with shock and horror when Haspel – who might herself have a few admissions to make to senators on other matters – suggests that America’s latest favourite Middle Eastern tyrant knew about the forthcoming murder of Jamal Khashoggi. Does Menendez think that Saddam hadn’t signed the death sentences of thousands of Iraqi men and women – which, as we know from his later “trial”, he did – before meeting Rumsfeld? Or that Duterte, who has compared himself to Hitler, doesn’t sign off on the killing of his murdered drug “suspects”? Or that Suharto had absolutely nothing to do with half a million murders in Indonesia?

It’s instructive, indeed, that the thousands of innocents killed in the Yemen war, an offensive undertaken by Mohammed bin Salman himself with logistical support from the US and UK – and it doesn’t need Haspel to tell us this – hasn’t exactly left US senators shocked. Just another bunch of Arabs killing each other, I suppose. Starvation didn’t get mentioned by the senators emerging from Haspel’s closed hearing. Yet the senators know all about the mosque bombings, wedding party bombings, hospital bombings and school bombings in Yemen. Why no tears for these innocents? Or is that a bit difficult when the US military – on every occasion by accident, of course – has bombed mosques, wedding parties, hospitals and schools in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria?

No, the shock and horror and the need for full disclosure about the Saudis is primarily about Trump, and the need to tie him in to the cruel murder of a Washington Postjournalist and US resident whose gruesome demise has been blamed by the American president upon a “vicious world”.

But there is something more than this, the appalling fact – albeit only a folk memory, perhaps, for many with scarcely any institutional memory at all – that 15 of those 9/11 hijackers were Saudis, that Osama bin Laden was a Saudi, that George W Bush secretly flew bin Laden family members out of the US after 9/11, that the Saudis themselves are heir to a blighted, rural, cruel version of Sunni Islam – based on the pernicious teachings of the 18th century Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab – which has inspired the Taliban, al-Qaeda, Isis and all the other killer cults whom we have proclaimed to be the West’s Enemy No 1.

Nailing Mohammed Bin Salman to a crucifix – a method of execution favoured by the Wahhabis – is an easy kill for US senators, of course. You hit the president and smash those unhappy historical details all in one fell swoop.

But don’t bank on it. Oil and arms are a potent mix. Old Abd al-Wahhab’s home is protected in a new tourist haunt in the suburbs of Riyadh. Come to think of it, the national mosque of Qatar – hostile to rapacious Saudi Arabia but another recipient of US weapons and a supporter of Islamist forces in Syria and Iraq – has a capacity for 30,000 souls, was built only seven years ago and is named after Abd al-Wahhab himself.

This is the dangerous world in which America and its allies now tread, disdainful of the thousands of Muslims who perish under our bombs and missiles and mortars – proxy-delivered by those we should distrust – ignorant of the religious currents which rumble on beneath our feet and beneath the House of Saud. Even the virtually useless information Haspel learned in the CIA’s “black centres” could have told senators this. If they had bothered to ask.
