ERBIL — The government of Oman has showed willingness to reopen its diplomatic mission in Iraq.

Iraq’s ministry of foreign affairs confirmed on Saturday that Muscat has sent a letter to FM Mohammed al-Hakim, in which it reveals the plan to reopen its embassy in capital Baghdad.

“Iraq sees this step reflecting keenness of our brothers in Oman to deepen the brotherly relations between the two countries,” Andolu Agency quoted statement said.

No timetable for the reopening of the embassy was mentioned.

Appoints former minister as Iraq's ambassador to Turkey

Former water resources minister Hassan al-Janabi on Friday confirmed his appointment as ambassador to Iraq and an extraordinary commissioner for Iraq.

"The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, issued a decree on Thursday appointing me as an ambassador and an extraordinary delegate to Iraq in the Republic of Turkey, after the government honored me with my nomination for the post," al-Janabi said in a statement on his account on the social networking site "Facebook" today (May 24, 2019) And get the approval of the Turkish government for the nomination. " 

"I will once again represent my country with this honorable mission, and I will seek to represent national interests in the best and most beautiful way," he said. "Like my time, I will keep my door open for all and be of the best help to the Iraqi community in Turkey." 

"In this regard, I started a series of meetings with political leaders and leaders from different walks of life to get to know their views and to present my vision of how I will represent the interests of this country," he said.

"He visited the headquarters of the Turkmen Front to meet MP Arshad Salhi, and two days ago I met with Hadi al-Amiri and Iyad Allawi and exchanged views with them to develop bilateral relationship with the northern neighbor, and found them keen to maintain and develop the relationship with Turkey." 

It is worth mentioning that there are files stuck between Turkey and Iraq and comes with the water problems and the Turkish military presence in the district of Baasheqa in the province of Nineveh, and the presence of PKK fighters in Iraq.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammad Ali al-Hakim received a copy of the credentials of the new US ambassador to Baghdad, Matthew Toler. 
The two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and the importance of enhancing cooperation opportunities at various levels to meet the aspirations of the two peoples. 
He stressed the willingness of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry to provide "all the necessary conditions to enable the new US ambassador to perform his duties to the fullest," and wished him success and success in his work. 
In May, the US Senate approved the nomination of US President Donald Trump, Matthew Toller as the new US ambassador to Iraq, in conjunction with a series of security measures by Washington at its embassy in Baghdad and a number of camps and bases of about ten thousand soldiers and a US military adviser.
Toller is the US ambassador to Yemen since 2014 and was ambassador to Kuwait between 2011 and 2014. He has worked at Washington embassies in Cairo, Baghdad, Kuwait and Riyadh. 
According to a previous statement to the White House, Toler "worked at the State Department as deputy director of the North Gulf office and an official in the office of Egypt," pointing out that "he is fluent in Arabic, holds a bachelor's degree from Brigham Yang University, a master's degree from Harvard University, Intelligence and two presidential awards, and the Baker Wilkins Prize from the State Department. "
Toller is a senior US diplomat and a former adviser to the US ambassador to Iraq, a political advisor to the US Embassy in Baghdad, deputy head of the diplomatic mission at the US Embassy in Kuwait, In Cairo, as well as his political advisor at the US Embassy in Riyadh, and as deputy ambassador to Doha.

"The United States is committed to the strategic framework agreement that defines our bilateral relationship with Iraq as one of the most important and strategic partners of the United States in the region," the ambassador said.
"I am proud to be the US ambassador to Iraq and look forward to communicating with our Iraqi partners and the Iraqi people to support a united, democratic and prosperous Iraq," he said.
"Ambassador Toller from Utah was recently appointed US ambassador to Yemen, US ambassador to Kuwait, deputy head of mission at the embassy in Cairo and minister of political adviser at the embassy in Cairo," the statement said. The Iraqi Minister of Trade, Mohammed Hashim Al-Ani, met on Thursday with Brazilian Ambassador to Iraq Mikkel Miklianch to discuss ways of developing joint economic relations between the two countries.

The Brazilian ambassador said, according to a statement to the Ministry of Commerce, that his country is interested in entering the Iraqi market, and work in various sectors and access to investment opportunities, especially in the field of infrastructure.

He said that his country had extinguished a large part of the debt owed by Iraq to the Republic of Brazil; this is considered a positive gesture by the Brazilian government.

The Ambassador explained that Brazil wishes to invest in Iraq through the participation of its firm companies, investors and businessmen to invest in all economic, trade and other fields, which contribute to building and strengthening bilateral cooperation and bilateral relations.

Miklianch pointed to the start of a joint committee project comprising all sectors, and the preparation of a working paper for both countries to study the topics to be put on the table.

The minister pointed out that Iraq has become an attractive areas for investment, especially after the stability of the security situation in recent times.

The Iraqi Minister of Trade stressed the importance of developing joint relations at all levels, seeking to open new channels of communication that serve the two peoples, and that Brazil has a special role in Iraq.

The Minister of Commerce, Dr. Mohammad Hashim Al-Ani, met US Ambassador to Iraq Matthew Toler. The two sides discussed during the meeting the issue of accession to the World Trade Organization WTO


The Iraqi side explained the steps taken by Iraq to join the Organization and the most important required files related to the accession process according to the requirements of the current stage, the most important of which is the file of the foreign trade policy of Iraq and the file of the initial offer of goods and services and the file of the legislative implementation plan and the intellectual property file.


Al-Ani said during the meeting that Iraq is keen to develop its trade and economic relations with all countries in the world, especially the United States of America, in the light of the government program announced by the Prime Minister and ratified by the Parliament, in addition to the importance of developing joint relations at all levels and seeking to open new channels of communication with countries the world . 


For his part, the US ambassador called for the development of relations and activating them in the economic aspect, stressing the importance of the forum, which will be held during the next few months and includes businessmen between the two countries that Iraq has a fertile land encourages investors to enter the Iraqi market and this forum includes all economic and trade, agriculture and industry to the jealousy of Other fields.

This year has been amazing with meeting's such as this. Sure looks like they gonna kick some tradeable new convertible currency worldwide IMF Article VIII style & hopefully sooner than later. In my humble opinion 2020 sure looks like they gonna have so much more to do & achieved in progress economically. With that being sad i have no clue whatsoever when they gonna do it nor did anyone i believe,.. but just sayin next year sure looks like promising at least for them in all aspect if they stick to the plan & everything went smoothly.

"The House of Representatives is going to vote on the list of new ambassadors, which includes 70 ambassadors to fill the vacancies in Iraqi diplomatic missions and representations abroad," committee member Amer al-Fayez said in a press statement.

He added, "The list of candidates for new ambassadors to be presented to the House of Representatives, were chosen equally between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which nominated 50% of the list of new ambassadors, and the other 50% are candidates of political blocs."

The Fayez, that "35 ambassadors who have been selected by the political blocs in accordance with the controls and standards set by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs."

He pointed out that "the other 35 ambassadors nominated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also selected through quotas to represent the components."

Britain on Thursday named Stephen Himi as its new ambassador to Iraq.
"We are pleased to announce that HE Steven Hickey will be the UK's ambassador to Iraq from John Wilkes," the British embassy in Baghdad said in a statement.
