How self-sufficiency has become a burden on the Iraqi economy?

- Two Days Ago

The fires of the agricultural fields in four Iraqi provinces were not the first of its kind, which took place immediately after statements by Iraqi officials confirming the achievement of "self-sufficiency" of the country's need for wheat and barley crops.
Millions of dollars in damage and damage caused to the Iraqi economy as a result of sudden incidents targeting the food security of the country coincides with each time after the launch of these statements, which is a source of concern and horror for both the official and the Iraqi citizen.
In recent years, Iraq has achieved self-sufficiency in a number of agricultural and animal crops such as fish, oranges, vegetables, table eggs, yellow maize, tomatoes, garlic, onions, wheat and barley crops, and strategic industrial products such as cement and petroleum derivatives, except gasoline.

This has contributed to the strengthening of the domestic economy, food security and the provision of hard currency.

The former minister of water resources and expert in the agricultural economy Hassan al-Janabi that Iraq is an important importer of wheat, noting that this year's production fills the need of the local market because of the rains and excellent water reservoirs achieved this season, which is more than 26 billion cubic meters increase of 15 billion Cubic meters from last year.

Al-Janabi said the state treasury could provide half a billion dollars of wheat imports, assuming that the value of a ton is only $ 210.

The Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture announced the possibility of achieving self-sufficiency of wheat and barley crops during the current season, stressing that the agricultural plan has achieved record numbers because of the abundance of water.

The agricultural plan for the current season included the cultivation of seven million three hundred thousand dunums of wheat throughout the country, an unprecedented record, as well as the cultivation of more than four million acres of barley, which provides the needs of animal feed for the current year.

Today, days before the harvest season, hundreds of agricultural fields of wheat and barley crops in the provinces of Salah al-Din, Kirkuk, Diyala and Mosul have been devoured by the "ignited" fires, causing heavy human and material losses to farmers who have been well off after an extraordinary rainy season.

These economic disasters have brought to mind what happened last year in the incident of fish deaths.

"We will not allow Iraq to achieve self-sufficiency, and the loss of fish is far away," said former Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi in his Twitter account on Twitter.

The Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture formed a joint operations room with the security and civil defense forces to reduce the fires that hit the fields of wheat and barley.

The spokesman of the ministry Hamid Nayef al-Jazeera Net that all indicators are moving towards organized crime, and we do not exclude terrorism in this aspect, in addition to other reasons, such as negligence and personal hostility, pointing out that investigations are continuing until now.

Al-Nayef asserts that the volume of losses in the media is exaggerated. The area that is burnt and damaged by the fields is now only 4,000 dunums of wheat and barley crops, which is nothing compared to the total cultivated area of 12 million dunums .

The head of the General Federation of Cooperative Agricultural Societies Hassan Nasif al-Tamimi denounced what he described as the massacres that take place in the fields of wheat and barley, and called on Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi to intervene personally to stop these disasters and identify the perpetrators and compensate the peasants.

Al-Tamimi told Al-Jazeera Net that the fabricated fires killed 15 farmers in the provinces of Kirkuk, Salah al-Din and Nineveh, pointing out that they came to create an economic crisis and destabilize Iraq's food security.

As for the side behind these incidents, economic expert Ghayath Daham told Al-Jazeera.net that we can not refer to a specific destination. Everyone took it to fight our economy openly and clearly in order to achieve corrupt goals. The victim was always the simple citizen.

Dham stressed that wars and recurrent conflicts have directly and negatively impacted the Iraqi economy, and other indirect effects were equally important to hamper the growth of the local economy, such as fabricated incidents, corruption and corruption in state institutions.

He added that the most important elements of supporting the domestic product is the enactment of supporting laws, provided they are applied, to reduce the phenomenon of corruption and slackness on the one hand, and to support legislated laws on the other, and this application will not only support the domestic product to outperform the importer, but will contribute to the activation of other aspects such as keeping the currency Difficult and raise the value of the local dinar and eliminate unemployment. The outbreak of the "pistachio war" between America and Iran

The outbreak of the "pistachio war" between America and Iran

31st June, 2019

The United States and Iran have been experiencing political and military tensions, which have risen in the past few weeks.

The conflict between Washington and Tehran has a number of financial aspects that have been manifested in the imposition of US economic sanctions aimed at Iran's resources , but according to experts, the "pistachio war" has surfaced again. The United States and Iran are the largest producers of these nuts in the world.

The United States and Iran each produce between 70 and 80 percent of the world's pistachio production, where they control the "green gold" market.  "Pistachio companies in California , where about 90 percent of US production is going, are striving to keep the maximum economic sanctions against Iran because the country is known for growing nuts and exporting them," US press reports said .

Journalist Yasha Levin and director Roman Wernham are expected to produce a documentary on what is now known as the "pistachio war". The documentary will investigate how American entrepreneur Stewart Resnicks has enhanced his presence in the nuts market and how he has managed to crawl Iran 's market share.  The documentary says that the great success of the Wondral Company, which owns a pistachio company in California, has benefited greatly from economic sanctions against Iran , and this applies to a large number of farmers.

In May 2018, US President Donald Trump announced his country's withdrawal from the nuclear deal and re-imposed tough economic sanctions against Tehran over its missile tests, its nuclear program and its role in destabilizing the Middle East.

Article:  "The Iraqi Central Bank is preparing to open up to the world"

Quote:

"...the implementation of this survey comes as a result of the spread of this profession,

which is due to the private sector taking the foreign and internal transfers,

after being confined to the Central Bank of Iraq."

Wow...They are going public (private) and global.

The money is going international...

Wow...This is huge...imo!

They are now not confined

They are opening up to the world just as they said they would.

The Private Sector is now going to drive capital formation.

Exactly why they have been talking about the citizens and there savings.

The private sector doing internal and foreign transfers of money is an international thing.

That has requirements and rules to follow ...

Sure looks like more signs of article 8... ...

The CBI told us they were to expand the exchange rate and the gold database.

Now this one is telling us they are doing things with transfers...

Gotta love the timing. imo.
